Emma Hallaway has not seen her husband in twelve years—and that’s fine with her. And though unknown to the rest of polite society, Emma is now one of the most daring and sought-after artists in London. However, when her secret i

The good news: I won a book! I won a book!!! (I received this book for free through the GoodReads First Reads). The bad news: 2 stars. Not for me, I'm afraid.

I really wanted to like this book. New author, a fellow Canadian, great plugs from other authors, the storyline is one of my favourites (older/spinsterish heroine and her long-away 'husband of convenience' fall in love), what's not to like? Quite a bit, as it turns out. A couple of 'bits' are big enough that I'm starting off with them, in

Emma Hallaway has been married for twelve years, and hasn't seen him since their wedding night. Emma is a painter, and has a talent for painting nudes, and is renown for her paintings. But when a man she thought friends, betrays her and threatens to reveal who she really is, unless she becomes his mistress, Emma is determined to make sure that never happens, because she would do anything to protect her sisters and keep them from scandal and ruin. But while in London, she runs across the one man ...more

I have a soft spot for reunion stories, but this one didn't quite cut it for me. The pacing is dilapidated, so it was difficult to stay engaged. The sex is at odds with the prose — I don't think there's a need for purple euphemisms when you're using crude colloquialism at the same time!

That being said, there are gems in all this: it's a book that certainly has surprises—good and bad!

“The Seduction of His Wife” by Tiffany Clare

Emma Hallaway loves to paint beautiful women in erotic poses as her hobby. When she was younger, she sold a painting of herself, that she painted, to a man that she befriended. Now, he is about to show everyone her painting and reveal that she paints nude women because she refuses to be his mistress. How is Emma going to deal with the exposure of her painting? She knows that her family name will be tarnished for life. She also knows that her younger si

There were a lot of things I liked and some I didn't. The story was good if a little farfetched. The sex was hot. Here's the summary:

Richard was forced to marry Emma when he was 19 and she was 15. After consummation he leaves the Continent, for twelve years! No contact whatsoever with her or his father. He then builds an opium empire. He decides, 12 years later that it is getting too dangerous a profession and he and his partners are trying to sell their shares. He also thinks it is time to bege

I had read Ms. Clare's previous/debut book, The Surrender of a Lady. While its premise was intriguing and unusual, I just could not connect with the characters, especially in the latter half of the novel. Thankfully I didn't have a problem with The Seduction of His Wife. Seducing one's own wife? I'm there!

Emma and Richard have what's considered a norm of the times: an arranged marriage. The snippets at the beginning of each chapter, I assume, are letters Emma wrote but did not send to Richard. I

A surprisingly wonderful read! The last book that I read where the husband and wife had been separated for years was rather horrible. So going out on a limb I picked up this book and was more than just a little bit delighted with what I found.

Emma and Richard have been married for 12 years, and aside from there wedding night they have been apart for 12 years. While Richard has been out seeking adventure in the east, Emma has been making quite a name for herself (though no one knows that it is h
THE SEDUCTION OF HIS WIFE by Tiffany Clare is a delightful historical romance set in 1848 London. The hero in this story had an appearance in "Surrender of a Lady". This is a story of abandonment by a husband who returns after twelve years,of making sacrifices for love, being true to yourself, reacquainting with the person you left behind. After twelve long years of abandonment by her husband,Emma, has made a life for herself by painting erotic portraits unknown, and remaining a Lady. She is now bein ...more
Loved this story so much more than her first. Don't get me wrong, Surrender of a Lady was a good story, but I felt The Seduction of His Wife had so much more depth. We were introduced to the Earl of Asbury in the first story so automatically I'm not a fan of his to begin with. There was so much character development that had to happen on his end to make me learn to like and appreciate him. Emma had worked so hard to build up her life without her husband around and become independent without him. ...more

GREAT READ!! The sisters are SOOOO hilarious! They are creative in challenging each other. Normally its the men but in real life it's male or female. It's finally time I was able to read about females just having FUN for a change.
Just started 4/11/11 .
Good read bu those who have an aversion to somewhat crude/risqué language may find some parts offensive

I'd add this author to my A list!
wow the intercourse was definitely there! Every page of the book! but the book was good. I thought it plot moved a little too fast!
I quite enjoyed this historical was a very easy read and the characters were likeable.
Plenty of steamy scenes!
If you like historical romances with lots of drama, twists and turns, you will enjoy this book!
Never read this author before- will definitely be looking into other books she has written.

Tiffany Clare does not disapoint. The Seduction of his wife is funny and witty.
Ms. Clare just gets better and better. Loved it.
Another winner for Tiffany!!

Love this kind of theme..
I've finally gotten over my hatred of cheesy romance novel titles, so I was willing to overlook this book's title because the premise sounded intriguing. A man who has ignored his wife after their wedding night is suddenly interested in her. In his absence, the abandoned wife took up erotic painting and is now caught up in trying to shut up a potential scandal. The problem for me is that I didn't really care because the characters were just so...blah. According to the summary, the husband is int ...more
This was one of those gentle reads that easily moves from scene to scene without much excitement. I kept waiting for the story to pick up the pace, but it never really did. On the flip side, the sex was well done, rather on the spicy side, and a somewhat weird transition in writing styles.

Richard was not your typical hero with a womanizing past; instead, he dealt in the seedier side of the opium trade (a unique background for a hero). He didn't have a clue how to handle his wife, Emma, and all t

I have a bit of mixed feelings about this book. It started out strong and the premise was very interesting and unique. I liked the wary/delicate dance that Emma and Richard do at the beginning trying to reconcile their misconceptions of each other and their current attraction. I appreciated how Richard had to come to realize and make up to Emma the last dozen years that he abandoned her and how Emma didn't let him off the hook. The explanation of his abandonment and her growth was real and fl

Ugh. This book had a lot of promise in the idea. Unfortunately, everything else about it was an uneven mess. I'm so annoyed that I wasted my time on this wreck that I'm not sure I even want to bother explaining *why* it's such a mess. I'm thoroughly aggravated that I bothered to read the entire thing. It should have been a DNF, but I stuck it out in the hopes that it would get better. Instead, it got smuttier and more purple and florid than I can say. Which would have been fine, because hey - sm ...more
The synopsis for this book is misleading. It talks about a marriage of convenience and that Emma was fine with her husband being gone because it allowed her to pursue her painting. When in fact, it was a marriage arranged by their parents, she was just 15 years old and her father said he wanted her to marry before he died seeing as his wife just died. Right after they were married, literally moments after consummating their marriage, Richard leaves and goes off traveling the world.

I liked the plot, but it was a little hard to read it through the end.

Deciding that life had far more to offer than a nine to five job, bickering children and housework of any kind (unless she's on a deadline when everything is magically spotless), Tiffany Clare opened up her laptop to write stories she could get lost in. Tiffany writes historical romances set in the Victorian era and is currently working on her Desire Me Now series for Avon Impulse, which releases ...more
