Have you ever felt the cold barrel of a semi automatic gun against your forehead?

Like a cycle ride , it begins all slowly, first an accident that becomes the defining moment of Danny's life..His love for cycling and the long rides has been the thing of his life, and when he chose this to carry his life was only predictable, but the extend he choses only raised my eyebrow..To raise money for actionaid he rides through continents, starting from England riding through Europe all the way through western India all the way to India was on a high note of inspiration...

“I want to cycle around the world and raise money.”
Do you have a dream? Have you ever set out on a world tour? Danny has a dream and he sets out on a world tour on a cycle. Doesn’t it sound like the Tour De France? Yes it is Tour De World. Ah the cycle has a name too: Shirley. Isn’t that sexy?
From London, through France, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, he enters into Ukrain. Through the Central Asian countries and Russia he roams in the Swat Valley: The Switzerland of the East. Islamabad, Lah...more

I received a free copy of this novel for my honest review. After Danny Bent almost dies after falling off of a cliff, he gets this striking revelation that his life isn’t going the way he wanted it to. He pretty much returns home to his 3rd grade class to tell them he’s going away to teach kids in India. They ask how he’ll get there, he says fly, then sees the lesson he’d taught the kids on being green, how much pollutants planes give off in our environment. He changes his answer before complete...more
Picked this one up as a kindle freebie so I can't complain about the price! One man's crazy 15,000km bike ride to India.
What I enjoyed about this:
- The personal narrative of the Danny's journey both physically and spiritually.
- The fact that it wasn't meticulously planned, the best adventures happen that way!
- It's an easy, quick read, maybe Danny was thinking of his former (and future) pupils
- Danny gets to live his childhood ambition which will inspire and motivate others to do the same

Tapi lama-kelamaan saya mulai terbiasa deng...more
I really enjoyed this book. Danny Bent, a remarkably ordinary guy, takes on the extraordinary challenge of cycling from the UK to India, a mammoth challenge that I am so impressed with.
I think Bent writes somewhat deceptively of his naiveté. Sure, he might leave his wallet on a counter once, but he's also made the effort to learn some of the language in almost every place he goes to, and has done the trip in an amazingly resilient and reliable bike.

Danny Bent certainly deserves a pat on the back for his very worthy adventure, a fantastic ride and I can imagine Danny being a fantastic teacher. However there is a problem. The book is quite simply badly written, which is a real shame and perhaps more the fault of the publisher than the author. Either way it reads like a school assignment "What did you do last summer?" that has been written by an 11 year old.

I downloaded this book for my kindle – because it was free. It turned out to be an entertaining read. Danny Bent – a keen cyclist and a teacher in London, decides to cycle to a village in India to raise money for children’s charities. A mammoth undertaking! He Christians his bike Sheila and the two of them embark on some fabulous adventures. Danny meets a variety of characters along the way – many of them showing great kindness and generosity despite having little themselves. Danny is a colourfu...more
Gaya penceritaan dari danny bent udah bagus. tapi sayang kenapa ya , klo buku terjemahan itu agak kurang gimana gitu dibacanya. bukan salah translatornya. Mungkin salah otak gw yg kurang bisa mencerna. Overall, buku ini bagus. Hal-hal yg belum gw ketahui (dan mungkin emang sengaja ditutupi) dari negara-negara yg dilewati danny dibahas disini. Oiya, akun twitternya @dannybent, om danny gak pelit bales mention lho. kemaren dia nanya di mention gw yg klo di b indonesia-in kira2 begini "kalo gue ke...more
You've Gone Too Far This Time is an excellent accounting of a challenging bicycle ride from England to India. Danny Bent is honest, funny, and inspiring. I admire his courage and dedication to completing this arduous task. Danny does not gloss over the hardships—he places us right there when the going was tough or scarry. I loved reading about the people he met, life in various countries, and the terrain he peddled through. His descriptions are vivid and his conversational style is easy to read...more
I definitely should have read this book when it was warmer outside because all it did was make me want to jump on my bike and go for a ride!
Danny Bent is a cyclist first, a teacher second, a charity fund raiser third, and a writer possibly fourth so he writes how he feels, which in turns makes the book definitely real feeling to me. It was fun, adventurous, and very scary - this must of have been amazing! I have cycled across a state (GA) in 3 days, this man cycled over 9000 miles in 6 months f...more

This is way off topic I suppose but my biggest complaint about this book is its cover. Not just the lame graphic that does no justice to the fun inside, but the actual paper the cover is printed on. It's this glossy mess that bent to some crazy angle every time I turned the page and now the whole book looks as though it is trying to open it's mouth to eat something.

Story of a British teacher who cycles from London to India to raise money for charity. The writing is very simplistic, and there are no insights in the story. It's just a descriptive travelogue of a ridiculously ill-prepared guy who has unending good luck. Mildly entertaining and it was free on the Kindle. The illustrations in the book did not translate well at all on the Kindle. Really a 2.5 book but rounding up since he apparently did raise some money although we are told next to nothing about...more
If ever a book got me yearning to self propel my way around the world it was this one!
Danny's travelogue plots his course overland from England through Europe, Eastern Europe and onwards through China, Pakistan and eventually to India on Shirley, his bicycle.
It is insightful, funny and sometimes tragic but for all that makes you yearn for a life on the road.
Grammar and spelling leaves a bit to be desired but hey, it's a travel book that must have written from notes and memory!

I really wasn't sure about this book. However it does give a flavour of the countries that Danny Bent cycled through to get to his destination of a school in India. He decides to cycle in aid of ActionAid. He sticks to his teaching principles of a trying to maintain a low carbon footprint by cycling the whole way. He meets many interesting people, and situations. He is also not opposed to sending himself up..... I enjoyed it despite my reservations at the start.

I really enjoyed reading this! The writer has a nice humourous, self-deprecating style. This is a very interesting account of a school teacher's solo cycle ride across Europe and Asia to reach a school in India. There are some wonderful accounts of friendly and helpful people that he meets along the way as well as some awful experiences in hostile territory. I found this a fascinating read and couldn't put it down!

This is a fantastic concept - a teacher cycling from England to India for charity? What's not to love?
Well, the writing. The stories are good, and the book as a whole is a good reading experience, but it's obvious that Mr Bent is a junior school teacher first and an author second. Areas that I wanted to hear more about were glossed over, and much too much time was spent on describing useless information. Danny chooses to undergo a mission of riding his bike from England to India. Many hilarious and serious events ensue as he crosses the boarders of Europe into Asia. A story to restore your faith in humanity as he receives help to achieve his mission (at other times his journey is somewhat harrowing!).
A great read about a man and his bike achieving something for a great cause.

This was one of those rare books that i had to read in a day! it was a fascinating tale of Danny and his trip by bicycle to India via the most treacherous conditions. Danny came across as been extremely like able and his style of writing meant that it was an easy and addictive read as you wanted to know what situation would face him next.
would highly recommend!

Amusing but heart touching cycling exhibition by Danny bent. he went from UK to India cycling 15k km over 6 dangerous/amazing/death-defying/daring/beautiful months to raise money for ActionAid and fulfilling his childhood dream of cycling around the world.
A very funny book that you cannot leave once you start reading it.
Well done Danny!!

This is currently a free kindle book, and definitely worth the money. A British man bicycles from England to India. His trip is fascinating, although at time a little gross. I don't know if it is really all true, but it is all possible, I suppose. I used a map to track his progress and get a better understanding of the region.
This is a great story about a teacher who resolves to bicycle from England to India to raise money for a charity. He doesn't do much planning ahead, either! The kindle version has many annoying typos in it, not sure about the paper copy. Great travel story, he meets so many interesting characters from many places on his journey.

This man is mad! But it makes for wonderful and humorous reading. Totally unprepared this guy decides to cycle from UK to India for Action Aid. The writing style is simplistic and not very detailed, apart from the bowels, but is a genuine description of the long and arduous ride and keeps you turning the pages to the end.
Downloaded mainly because it was free, I think: but I'm glad I did. Despite the rubbish title, this travelogue is an interesting one - and you want to urge him on as he cycles through all kinds of interesting places. It's written in a nice style, and while this isn't the most detailed travel book, it's good fun to read.
I found in this book a surprisingly interesting tale of a bicycle journey from Europe through Asia. I found it as a result of a "free" book promotional email and decided to give it a try. It is a well-written story of cross-cultural encounters with strangers in unfamiliar lands while traveling. Very enjoyable.
I didn't intend to read this book. I just wanted to read the first chapter, about the author's teaching career, but I swear I couldn't stop! The writing did seem kinda clumsy at times --like a travel email from a friend-- but I was intrigued by the descriptions of an entire region which I don't know much about.
