A mix of Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yuugi, Sakura Hime has demons from the moon, a princess in a short skirt fighting them and a conflicted love story, all wrapped in a gorgeous Heian Era fantasy. Arina Tanemura is a favorite for fans of shojo manga and she does not disappoint. The artwork is amazing and detailed. Although I wasn't captured by Sakura immediately, I definitely felt for her by the end of the volume. She's annoying in an early series Usagi sort of way and I want to give her a few more...more

Maybe 2.5/5 stars... I don't know. I started reading this at ~5am because I couldn't sleep, and picked it up at the library in the first place because I LOVE the author's other series: Full Moon. The artwork and the characters... ah :DD However, this book didn't compare at all. The art was good, but the story lacking. Aside from the adorable Asagiri, I disliked many of the characters. Sakura is a little annoying -__- (view spoiler)[(She shares names with Cardcaptor Sakura and also has a sword th...more

So far it's really only just okay... I can tolerate it, but I don't know if I'll go out of my way to continue with it. Some things I find in common with Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne... Tanemura uses little people again, this time a mononoke and an enchanted frog. The heroine has special powers (which really just keeps it in the same genre, I know. Mahou Shoujo. But still). The overarching theme this time is choosing your fate vs. accepting your fate whereas in Kamikaze it was good vs. evil (and loneli...more

I really like Arina Tanemura's work. I know I shouldn't, since it's the same formula, book after book - but isn't most manga?

Anyway.

The art is good. It's pleasing, and I enjoy looking at is while I read the speech bubbles and move along with the action. But, true to Arina's style, the main heroine is super-thin, petite, has really long hair, and big, expressive eyes. Kind of a negative in my book, but not enough to get me to not like it in any way.

So you move along and start reading the plot,...more

In my words, I think Sakura Hime Kaden is the best manga book I have EVER read! Its very funny, adventurous, and sometimes disturbing. But I LOVE this book. Its about this princess(her name is Princess Sakura) who is actually from the moon and is immortal. She has been bethrothed since birth by her future fiance' Prince Oura. Not wanting to get married, she runs away. Then she gazes up at the full moon and a Youko appeared. (Youko, is a immortal man-eating beast) As suspected, Prince Oura comes...more

I really tried to like this but... I simply couldn't. I loved Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne and some of her earlier works but lately her plots are so childish and boring! I even think her artwork lacks some of its usual beauty because - she says that herself - easier plots are harder for her to imagine than complicated ones.
I tried the first volume of Gentlemen's Alliance and I didn't even finish it because it was so boring. This time I at least made it through but I am so disappointed!

A bit ridiculous, but not annoying. The images are busy, with so much detail it's almost distracting. However, the images are beautifully drawn.

Sakura's life changes when she looks up at the moon one night and begins a transformation into a moon princess that kills the youko. The prince she is betrothed to throws in a twist in the middle, that makes this different than some of the shojo I've read before. I would read another volume to find out what happens.

The artwork is great AND the story flows well enough to keep a novice Manga reader like me engaged. I love the whole, I hate you, I love you, I love you, I hate you...thing. It kept the first volume from being too predictable.

I often ignore the sidenotes and chibi's in the margins, but found myself reading several in this volume.

My favorite character is Sakura's friend/servant Asagiri. Like the author, I hope she "evolves into a great character."

I honestly know nothing about Heian era Japan, the setting of Sakura Hime, so I can't say if she did the era justice or not. But I did like the art (the kimono are so pretty) and I was a lot more interested in the characters and the story than I had been in Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne. Sakura herself has a pretty good set up, and there's a really surprising twist halfway through the first volume. I'm actually really interested to see where this goes.

I wish I could say I liked this book, because the art was pretty good and it sounded like it would be a good plot. But the plot made no sense, probably because I was looking for something deeper in the words. The author really seemed to be jumping all over the place and really didn't have much to go on. The second that I actually started to like the book, it was ruined because apparently that was a dream. No.

In this book some of the many themes are love, adventure, and friendship. With the theme love you see how princess Sakura grows to love the prince more and more though out the book. This book has adventure written all over it because this is the journey of the princess go's to fulfill her life's destiny. The theme friendship is all over the book to because Sakura makes new friends and learns to really like them.

(3.5) i had rather avoided Tanemura because of her reputation of recklessness with the screentone, but i enjoyed this more than i expected. it has a nice level of silliness, even if nothing is strikingly original (i was particularly fond of the frog ninja sidekick) and *the* best snooty teenage hero - i'm not sure how old he's supposed to be but he looks about 15. and the art is busy but still parses perfectly fine.

This story takes place in the Heian period in Japan. It is about a princess named Sakura who is about to be married to the Imperial Prince Oura. An emissionary is sent to escort her to the capital, and Sakura who doesn't want to go and marry the prince decides to run away in the woods with her magical friend Asagiri. Sakura looks at the full moon, forgetting the fact that she is forbidden to look up at the full moon. Suddenly, a demon appears, and Sakura is forced to fight, discovering thanks t...more

I don't like this as I do her other works (Full Moon being my personal favorite). The art is as beautiful as ever, but it seemed too much happened too quickly. It's nothing I'd go out of my way to buy, nothing fantastic. Sorry Arina, I may pick up your next series once you complete this one -goes through Full Moon, KamiKaze, GA +, and Time Stranger Kyoko again-

I was going to give it four stars, but then the second half of it happened, which was so rushed and ill-tempered with cheap laughs that I had trouble enjoying it as much as the first half. Not a bad start to a new Tanemura series, and her art is as gorgeous as ever. Should be a good twist on the typical 'destined girl' shojo story.

Could it be that I'm actually starting to enjoy shojo manga? It is quite possible. This looks to be a fun, light-hearted series. I actually quite like Sakura's character. Even though she's incredibly spoiled, the author almost seems to poke fun at that. This left quite the cliff-hanger and I'm looking forward to reading more.
Starbubbles
I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt and am rounding up from my 2.5. It's okay, I guess. I liked it enough in the store, then thought I acted hasty and exchanged it to fill in a gap in another series. At least the art is pretty.

My first manga I've read of Arina Tanemura, but I've watched the anime of another one of her stories. Honestly I loved it, the art was beautiful. She was always one of my favourite manga authors. I just love the way she draws her character's eyes.
Shiori Tsukiko
If only she made her plots more interesting, I would have enjoyed this book. *Sighs* The only that gets me reading this book is because of her art-work. Her characters are nicely done as always. I kind like Sakura being strong but she is also weak.

[Ch. 1-3:]

Dear lord, these first three chapters were so long! But they were very good, so that's okay.

I really love Arina Tanemura's art style - it's so pretty! And her chibi characters are always so cute.

Anyways, in this volume, you're introduced to Princess Sakura who is the granddaughter of Princess Kaguya from the moon. She's a demon, although she doesn't realize it at first. Lots of people fear her, and as you'll see in this volume, there are many people who try to kill her.. even her Princ...more

I think it was really cute and the artwork as usual is gorgeous. Story is not as strong as some of her other works, but this was only the first volume. Very remnisent of Sailor Moon, actually.
Chiara
I liked this manga. But it just seemed to lack the story and 'pull' of her other series (such as Full Moon and Gentlmen's Alliance). I will continue to read the series, though.
Talizmyn
Well, it's pretty...? That's all that counts, right? What is plot any good for, anyway? This one gets two stars for the artwork. Plot counts for nothing.
Christine
I really enjoyed it and I don't read a lot of manga
I went out and bought the 2nd book the next day. It is so addicting!
Elsa
The whole transformation thing lost me at first but will pick up more volumes to see how this turns out.
Candycloud
Okay. I'm seriously new to manga, and I will admit, I like it a lot. But I didn't really like this book.

Yeah, Sakura was cute, as was Asagirl. But the other characters... well, they were a bit... um... strange.
Anny
Its awesome! I really like the story setting and its contents. :)
