“I’m kind of a big deal” chronicles Stefanie Wilder-Taylor’s life, growing up and eventually “making it” in Hollywood as a game shows writer. In similar style to her previous titles, Wilder-Taylor tells her story in separate anecdotes, and finds comedy in every situation she encounters.

Stories include everything from waitressing in New York, participating as an extra in Bob Dylan video, and participating in dating game shows---to stalking a guy she saw on TV, temporarily working as a limo driver...more

Stephanie Wilder Taylor writes about her Hollywood days a bit in her latest memoir. Each chapter is a new opens to something that would be perfect for a television skit on a comedy variety show. This makes perfect sense since she used to write for television. She recounts her first big break when she appears in a Bob Dylan video where she has visions of being the featured dancer like Courtney Cox was in a Bruce Springsteen video. Her plan doesn't even come close since she ends up hanging around...more

A snarky collection of stories to create a great memoirish read. Some of the stories were down right hilarious - I may have laughed out loud, but there were a few that fell below the line. A great book to read by the beach or in spurts over the summer.

My absolute favorite was the story of her getting a tattoo or at least trying. Her thoughts and reactions would be exactly like mine. I couldn't get a tattoo if you paid me for two reasons: I couldn't make a decision on what I would want or where I...more

Stefanie Wilder-Taylor is a writer and a comedian. This collection of short stories runs the gamut; there are stories about her flubbing at a comedy show, driving around pseduo-celebrities in a town car, performing as a back up dancer for a Bob Dylan music video and auditioning to be on a dating show. And of course, Wilder-Taylor is a big deal…in her own mind, that is.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. The synopsis kind of reminded me of one of Chelsea Handler’s books, which I love. A com...more

Stefanie Wilder-Taylor's name is not familiar to me but I needed a laugh and I hoped this collection of essays would provide one or two given her experience as a stand up comedienne. Wilder-Taylor uses humour and witty asides to document her struggle to become famous, first in stand up, then as an actress until finally discovering her niche as a segment writer.

Predictably Stefanie enjoyed a rather wild adolescence in an unhappy home, and escaped to the bright lights of LA as soon as practicable...more

I was lucky enough to read an advanced copy of this hilarious collection of essays, and while it absolutely delivers what I've come to expect from Stefanie - irreverent, perceptive observation and often milk-through-the-nose hysterics - I was delighted to discover a deeper connection to the author through her touching stories about her father and the struggles she faced with some of her own personal demons. Comunicated with her always wry, always spot-on rapier wit, the author covers this new gr...more

I really enjoy collections of funny essays, and if they have a little bit of snarky-ness to them, all the better. I’m Kind of a Big Deal is exactly that. Wilder-Taylor’s essays are arranged chronologically though the book, so that while each can stand on its own in a comedic fashion, they also run together create a memoir of her life to date.

The book starts directly after the author has graduated from high school and chronicles her time in New York City as an unemployed 18 year old bunking with...more

The kind of humor that stand-up comedians throw at the audience can be anything from hilarious straight to way over the top. Being usually weary when it comes to the not always laughter inducing shows, I had no idea what I'd get myself into with I'm Kind Of A Big Deal.
In her book Stefanie Wilder-Taylor reflects on how she became a writer and comedian and she does so in a very convincing and most of all self-deprecating manner - in parts absolutely funny, then downright serious. The essays mainly...more

Stefanie Wilder-Taylor has had plenty of interesting experiences throughout her life so I can't blame her for wanting to throw them all into a book of short stories. But I was expecting this to be more laugh-out-loud funny and while it was an amusing read, it didn't even get a vocalized snicker out of me. I still think I'm going to check out some of her other books: Sippy Cups Are Not For Chardonnay just sounds like a hoot.

I really like this author's writing style and the essays were interesting but I did not find it hilarious. I think I was tricked into thinking this was a humor book but instead it's just not a tragedy. It's worth reading but be prepared that it's not super funny.

I picked this off the library shelf because I wanted to start the year off with something quick and funny. And though I laughed sometimes, I found tr author lacking depth. She was sort if funny. But not funny enough for me to seek out any of her other books.

Stefanie Wilder-Taylor is funny. She's a stand-up comedienne and knows how to get the laughs. Her references to my marvelous 80's hair, aqua-net and parachute pants clothing had me laughing out loud. Like any stand-up comedian, Stefanie is a little on the crass side at times. She is still hilarious and not crass to the point that I was deeply offended.

This is a book best kept in the bathroom as each chapter is the perfect length for a visit there. Although a person should not laugh out loud whi...more

Fun, easy to read collection of essays, mostly dealing with the author's early days in L.A. Plenty of laughs make me wish I could have listened to the audio version.

I loved Ms. Wilder-Taylor's blog, and had high hopes for this book. However, I was disappointed. Just getting through the first 2 chapters was a struggle!

I have really enjoyed Stefanie Wilder-Taylor's previous books. This book left me feeling uncomfortable, and a bit cold. The last few chapters made me physically cringe, and it took a lot to finish the book.

Between liking it and really liking it. I never laughed out loud but it was a quick humorous read. I plan to read her other books.
Shay
She tells some pretty funny stories about herself...I love that she tried to be on the 90s dating show "Studs"!

I loved It's Not Me, It's You, so I had high hopes for this one. But I hated it. Her stories were not funny or particularly interesting and where as the last time I wanted her to be my best friend, this time she came off as an obnoxious, vain weirdo. In fact, the only chapter I really enjoyed was when she discussed her problems with alcohol [something that should have been clear to anyone who has read her books]. I wish she had spent more time discussing that, her lack of a relationship with her...more

I should remember that books of funny little personal essays that I like are the exception, not the rule.

i wouldn't wish this book on my worst enemy!
Ashley
Not as funny as her other book.
Krystal
I like her, she's funny! This book had some more serious chapters, but overall, I liked it. Some were laugh out loud funny and others got me to chuckle. I just like how she tells stories. :)
Stefanie
This book made me laugh.
Kelly
So funny!!! Earlier chapters are better than the later ones though.
Mary
Eh. Some amusing stories, but it doesn't hang together very well.
