I really didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book and I wanted to like it but it was just so all over the place. First you're in the 1600's then you're in 1990's then your in 2165's what? Then no matter the time you have a companion/helper from the Caribbean who is supposed to be a blood sister because you share a common ancestor and then there is a crystal that gets stolen. I so wanted to like this book I really did but it was just no cohesiveness throughout that never mind b...more I really didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book and I wanted to like it but it was just so all over the place. First you're in the 1600's then you're in 1990's then your in 2165's what? Then no matter the time you have a companion/helper from the Caribbean who is supposed to be a blood sister because you share a common ancestor and then there is a crystal that gets stolen. I so wanted to like this book I really did but it was just no cohesiveness throughout that never mind being science fiction they just want you to suspend all logic and just go with the story. The characters were easily forgettable when you think of a heroine the character is supposed to linger with you even after you have read the last page and she didn't stick with me and I just could not get into this story at all and I am a fan of all kinds of works but this, this just and in matter of fact the title is misleading because there is no real demon which gets explained way in the last half of the book. I applaud the writers efforts because I see clearly what they tried to do they tried to do science-fiction, time travel, women as the hero's, the effects of nuclear warfare, and a society divided by defective genetics and humans that are considered the perfect engineered species and even in that context guess what folks Negroids as the book refers to them are considered a genetic anomaly even in the year 2165 so basically as time progresses Negroids will still be inferior and considered genetically defective because their skin color and features can not be totally eradicated and wiped out even in this perfect society. In fact one of the experiments done is on a Negroid child who dies but she is just a blip in the book a side note she doesn't even get a name. I know most of the people that write these books and when I say most of the these people I mean Caucasians write from their perspective so they aren't about giving a real voice to people of color and when we are in their books we are side notes, side kicks, sex objects, servants, or just someone to kill because a minorities life is not valued in fiction nor in real life but I digress that is besides the point. I tried to avoid giving this review because I didn't have to many positive things to say about this book. It was a recommendation for a reading group on here I was disappointed and if these are two long time writers I don't know who their audience is but its clearly not intended for me. There was such a disconnect in this story that I just couldn't even get satisfaction from finishing it. If you want a messy story that is all over the place and has no real continuity then this a story you will enjoy but for me I will be avoiding all things written by these two authors from now on.(less)
