**SPOILERS**
I like stories about powerful women. Our main character is a defense attorney who loves 'em and leaves 'em. After reading a few of her novels, I've come to the conclusion that you don't read Joy Fielding for the excellent writing. Puppet is plot-driven and kept me engaged while travelling for business - a good escapist bit of fluff. Set partially in Toronto, I loved this book for the fact that it was somewhat local to me. I don't remember much about the storyline because it's been so long since I read it but I do remember being entranced by the main character and her take on life after her mother shoots a man in a hotel lobby and how she searches so desperately to find out why.

Attorney Amanda Travis has a successful career in Florida, but when her ex-husband calls from Toronto saying her mother has just murdered a complete stranger, she reluctantly goes home to find out why.

An exciting crime thriller with an unexpected ending. Adult-themed subject matter that may not be for everyone. Recommended.

This book tried a little bit too hard with foreshadowing that never really went anywhere in the end.
I didn't love it. I wouldn't read it again. It tried to delve into childhood traumas and memories, but it was quite shallow.

This was pretty good, definitely had a twist that I did not see coming at the end.
