Enjoyed the first and the third story but could not get into the second at all.

I had only read one book written by Jane Green prior to this one, but it didn't stop me being very excited to pick this one up! I really enjoyed Green's fun and relaxed style of writing in Jemima J, and was even more impressed with her latest release, The Holiday. I was also impressed with the other two short stories, The Second Wife of Reilly by Jennifer Coburn and Mistletoe and Holly by Liz Ireland.

I am not usually completely taken by short stories, I prefer the depth of a longer novel, but I...more

3 short stories by 3 authors. Jane Green's story was readable but, I was looking forward to a more realistic outcome. I enjoy Jane's books, but I felt cheated out of good story telling for a quick release of 3 bad Christmas stories. In this first one, Sarah and Eddie find themselves unhappy in their marriage. They moved to the suburbs, had children, grew fat and fell out of love. (view spoiler)[ After separating, overnight they fix themselves up, lose weight and automatically fall back...more

3 contemporary Christmas stories. None of which have ANY sex.

Jane Green - 4 stars. WOW! This starts out as a sad story. Married couple who used to be madly in love, now... not so much. He gets transfered to Chicago & she thinks it's a sign to seperate. As they spend time apart, they both begin to take stock of their relationship. Can it be saved? You've got to read the story (but would I give it 4 stars if they can't?).

Jennifer Coburn - a reluctant 3 stars. I really didn't want to like th...more

This was a good reads book that I won November 15th. It didn't come by mail until late January. I would have rather read during the holidays since all 3 stories are Christmas related.
I enjoyed story 1. I especially liked how Sarah & Eddie each grow and change and make good on mistakes made. I wished the story would have continued a bit more before ending abruptly. Yeah for Eddie for working hard and having faith in their marriage. All in all it was a cute Christmas story.
Book 2 I would have...more

Don't waste your time. I'm not a big fan of short stories. They're just, well... short! By the time you get hooked the story is over. These were generic, predictable "love stories". Here they are in a nut shell. I suppose I'll put spoiler tags for anyone who couldn't guess the outcome after the first two pages...

Ok, so this is a book with three short stories. And again, I'm not a huge fan of the short story--just to quick to wrap up stories for me. I decided to rate these individually.

"Vacation" by Jane Green:

This is the one I looked foward to the most, because I really like Jane Green. Unfortunately, I only give it three stars. It was an ok story, but there was virtually no ending--it wrapped up in like 2 paragraphs and I was confused--as though I was missing pages. It was almost like the author was gi...more

This book is a compilation of three short stories by three different authors, all focused on very different events in women's lives at Christmas. They are all clever, humorous depictions of emotional dilemmas which seem like they might be best serialized in a woman's magazine. The book is an entertaining, light read, but certainly not terribly impressive nor memorable. It would probably make an appropriate gift for a female friend, as many women could relate to the situations described: disappoi...more

Three short stories by chick-lit authors Jane Green, Jennifer Coburn, and Liz Ireland (of whose previous work I had only read Green's) set around the Christmas holiday. I am a chick-lit fan but I have to say that the first two stories were more trite and predictable than most. I'm glad I stuck in there for the third...it was predictable but somehow more appealing than the other two. If you're reading these stories to get in the holiday spirit, I'd pass.

I only read the first story which was written by Jane Green in this book but I liked it! At this time of year it is nice to have some fluff to read A very fast read and simple characters that I could relate to in some ways. I think that the most important part of this novel is thinking about how we in our busy lives can find ourselves and a passion that gets us there.

If there were half stars, I'd give it 2.5, but even that is being generous. This book is 3 short stories written by authors that write chick lit. I love smart and fun chick lit, but this fell quite short. The stories are predictable and while I didn't hate them, I didn't love them either. I guess the Christmas theme was nice seeing as how I read it in December, but it was still very meh.

This book is three novellas by three different authors. I got through the first, "Vacation," and while I wouldn't hold it up as a standard of great writing, I got through it and even liked how it made me appreciate my family more. I wasn't impressed by the author's use of profanity, though.

Unfortunately, I made it only partway through "The Second Wife of Reilly" before I put down the book, and I'm not going to pick it up again. I have no desire to read female locker room–type talk, nor the exce...more

I bought this book because of Jane Green. Out of the three authors, she is the only one I had read before. But it turns out that I really didn't like her story (1 star). The second story was by Jennifer Coburn. I didn't like this either, and it was really annoying because it was almost a sequal to a previous book (1 star). The last story was by Liz Ireland. I'm glad I didn't give up after the first two disappoinging stories. I like this story and it was the only one the left in a feel-good holid...more

I received this book as a review copy. I wanted it because Jane Green wrote one of the stories. The book is a quick read and perfect for the busy Christmas season. I wanted to read but didn't have a lot of time to sit down and really get involved in a novel. I enjoyed it and am thankful I won the copy.
Debbie Swift
I prefer just one story rather than a few shorter stories, but this is a feel good read, especially around the Christmas holidays. After reading the reviews I expected the second story to be really bad, but once I got past the first 2-3 pages it was really good.

Only read the first story in the book- Vacation. It was just okay. The point of view was extremely distracting- third person omniscient...a lot of head hopping going on. I only cared about the main characters opinions and her husband...not what everyone else thought. Then at the end, the climax to the story...a scene ends...next scene, the entire climax is over. The writer basically skipped over the resolution!!! I wanted to know what happened!!!!! I was left wondering how they solved their prob...more

The second Christmas book this week. I requested a bunch of books from the library and these came in first. :)

Not half bad, actually. Cute, but not overly sentimental, just a few interesting little stories.

I really enjoyed one of the stories in this collection, but couldn't get into the other two and stopped reading them. I wish they had pulled me in, but other readers may feel differently.
Stacy
I am not sure why this collection of short stories got such bad reviews but of course I loved it. The last story about Holly and the misletoe was my least fav but I still liked it and the book made a great read for the holidays. I will search for other books written by these 3 authors.
Laura
This was hard to star because I liked one novel and not the other. The three stars were for the first and the last. The middle novel I did not like.
Gabby
It was cute. It kept me entertained while working Black Friday when there was practically no one there. Wasn't high on my list of exciting books. More short love/romance stories than anything.
Corrie
I did not like any of the stories in this book. They just felt rushed which is sometimes a problem with short stories.
Crystal
I'm not that big into short stories. I'd rather have a longer book to read. I felt just as I was getting into it, the story would end.
Lea
Three stories. The first one was okay, but I couldn't relate to the female role and there was a lot of British slang used by people who weren't British.
The second story I couldn't finish, the female character was so sad and unhappy, I just couldn't get into the story.
The third story was the best in the series. The female character was realistic with her family issues at Christmas and the best friend as the secret love interest story.
Eileen
I read the first story in the book, by Jane Green and enjoyed it. I like her style of writing.
Did not get into the next two stories, by twp other authors, since had a valentine book to read and this was not allowed for a renewal. I think you will enjoy it.
Lorri
Loved all 3 stories in this book! A great Christmas read!

The book consisted of three stories, by different authors.I enjoyed the first story as i love Jane Green. But i wasn't inpressed with the other two stories.

Don't even bother... Never finshed the book!
Danielle
I really enjoyed the first story, The Holiday by Jane Green, however I couldn't really get into the second & third stories. I have never read anything by Jane Green before but I would recommend the first story in this book, The Holiday, to anyone who is looking for a light Christmas read!
