I started reading this book because of the Wyoming Wildflower part of the title. My family comes from Wyoming and I have always loved Wyoming. However, there was just too much explicit description of their sex life and not enough actual story line. I didn't even finish it because I was tired of reading their intimate contact over and over and not having the story go anywhere.

Typical Silhouette story, damsel in distress, strong capable man to the rescue who will love her and do anything for her until death do them part. Started out promising but by the middle of the story got a lil boring,, but came back to life..
Mattie and Dave were believable characters, and the situation was interesting. I didn't like the explicit sex, but at least they were married, although the marriage began as a business proposition. The novel made it apparent they'd also been intimate as tee...more

I like reading about happy endings with difficult journeys (like sorting out misunderstandings etc.) and this is what Almost a Bride is about. I loved Matty and Dave's journey towards their happy ending.
Matty loves her home Flying W very much which now after her great uncle's death is trapped under a huge load of financial problems and Matty would do anything to save it and that includes contract marriage with Dave.

Talk about a case of parental mind games wow Dave got served up a big case of it at a time in his life when most of us if were honest are dealing in fear. So, for his mom to now be talking in riddles after the fact was even getting me frustrated for him. Then there is Matty. Who did not stand a chance from age 6. Parents pass, raised by grandparents, fall in love with boy next door on day one, & just when you are getting ready to make it all come together talking marriage down the line after...more

Recommends it for:
anyone who likes a good love story
Up front I will admit that I am not a huge fan of romance novels. With only a few exceptions, I nave never cared for them. So you may wonder why I bought this book and why I gave it four stars.
There are two reasons I bought the book. I love horses and books with western settings. When I read an excerpt of the book I decided I wanted to read about this woman who is trying to save her ranch in Wyoming. The other reason I bought the book is because I met the author online and after getting to know...more

Meh, it was OK.
I really tried to like this book. It was a freebie on Amazon, it had many good story elements. But I personally found it to be somewhat stilted and boring, and it made my reading experience feel protracted. At times the dialogue was awkward.
This is definitely a YMMV book. I find the reviews for this book to be telling. There is a contingency that loved the story, and a group that didn't. I recommend reading several reviews and comparing your favorite types of books with the revie...more

There were several things I loved about this story - Dave Currick being the greatest. I liked his easy-going style. The other major positive was the clever humor. That made it enjoyable to read. The way the past of the two characters, Dave and Mattie, was interwoven with the present was also well done. However, Mattie began annoying me about halfway in, and by the end, really annoyed me. Her need to do things on her own to the point of hurting herself and her relationship did not make sense to m...more
I don't often read romance novels...okay, fine. I NEVER read romance novels unless it's New Adult or Young Adult, so this was a new venture for me. It starts out like so: Matty needs to marry her ex-boyfriend so she can snap up a grant in order to keep her ranch. Apparently if she marries her ex, Dave, she can get the grant. So...BAM. Dave agrees to marry her "temporarily" even though he doesn't know why she's doing it. Yup. Just like that. After six years of not speaking to each other they agre...more
Actually, surprisingly enjoyable. Fun, tongue-in-cheek, likeable protagonists. Of course, it IS romance, and so intrinsically corny, but very bearable. I skipped sex AGAIN, because there's only so much of this heavy hotty stuff I can take, but what I did read was bearable too. I started on the next book in trilogy, but by that time the whole dislike-about-to-turn-into-violent-sexual-attraction was getting a bit old despite the amusement factor, so I abandoned it. But this first one was fun, and...more
The premise of a character marrying another for less than romantic reasons is traditional within the romance genre. The idea that a sexless marriage can last for the contracted time between the parties has been used so many times that it is a tired format. This novel is no exception and the ending is entirely predictable and somewhat flat.
The book is technically well-written and the character of Dave is engaging, though what he wanted Matty for is beyond me. I am sure he could have done better t...more

This was an Amazon recommendation and for only $1 I thought "why not"? Well, the plot was good, kind of a marriage-of-convenience type scenerio (which I love). Marty must marry her ex-boyfriend Dave in order to save her ranch. Dave dumped her six years earlier for a dumb reason and has missed her ever since. Anyway, I liked the story and characters, but found I had to skip a lot because of sexual content. once you put that stuff in I think the story losses a lot of it's chemistry. I skimmed a lo...more
I'm not sure if this book has been made into a Lifetime-like movie, but it's very close. Woman comes home after family dies to take over the family ranch. Woman needs a guy to marry to fulfill some part of tactical issues with keeping said ranch open. Woman asks childhood boyfriend, now all grown up, from the neighboring ranch, to marry her. Sex and hilarity ensue as this couple tries to make their "fake" marriage appear "real" to the small Wyoming community that knows them so well.

I really enjoyed this book. It was set in Wyoming, and being I lived in Wyoming for 9 yers, I could imagine the setting very well. I enjoyed this great love story and the journey the book took us on. We have all experienced that one true love, and some regret having not pursued it. In this book, the two main characters go through many ups and downs before they find that true love they feel for each other, luckily they both are able to find it at a common time. Nice when all works out, but still...more
This was a free kindle book. It sounded like it would be a cute story from the description. I got to the end of chapter two and realized that this book was going to be going somewhere I didn't want to go (graphic sex), so I stopped reading it and checked some of the reviews on goodreads, which confirmed my suspicions. I was sad, because there was so much potential for a cute story with some fun characters...next time I'll need to do more research on what I pick up off the free reads for kindle.

This book was a good read. It started out kind of eventful and seemed as though the author just threw you into the book. However, along the way I really got into it. I did however want to smack the characters for not being able to make a decision as mature adults...gees let's play the high school games of throw a pencil at her to show your affection. Read it once and would recommend it because it has various funny parts, just not something I would read again.
Matty's uncle has died and she came back to take over the ranch only to find he has no money to do that.
She runs into an old boyfriend who she loved growing up, and asks him to marry her so she can get a grant which will help her to run the ranch. They agree to marry for 2 years.
They marry. They find both of them still have lots of feelings for each other.
They stay together.

I enjoyed this story. There were a few elements that bothered me in the flow, but overall I liked the chemistry between the couple. The hero pulled me in right from the start. And although I understood the heroine's feelings about what happened six years ago, it in no way made me think badly of the hero. In fact, it made me cheer for him even more.
Light reading with vibrant characters. Despite a predictable ending, there are enough twists in the plot to make this book good reading. I enjoy strong women characters and this definitely has one of those - understandably someone who others may want to strangle at times of pigheadedness!
Hoping the sequels will provide the same entertainment...

McLinn is a new to me author and I look forward to reading more of her books including books 2 and 3 in this series. There was love, romance, anger, misunderstandings and a lot of twists and turns to the storyline. There was nice closure and a happily ever after that didn't seem possible. Good character development too.
This is well written for a free Amazon download. It flowed well and was believable for the preface. The characters could have had more depth.
Sex- sex before marriage, a sex scene. Not the cleanest book.
Violence- Not that I can remember.
Language- Damn's and Hell's:}

2-1/2 stars. Almost a Bride almost won me over. Almost. The story was cute and the writing inspired...in parts. There were enough spelling errors to be distracting without completely detracting from the story. The plot felt incomplete and rushed, at times. Overall, it was a nice feel good love story, but it definitely had potential to be great.

This book is about two old friends who have been separated for 6 years. Matty and Dave grew up together and feel in love but he broke up with her. Matty has come back from living it up in the world to try and save her ranch. She proposes marriage to Dave hoping she can financially save her ranch.
The characters are okay. The author does a lot of telling the reader what is going on instead of showing the reader.
