Star Crossed was amazing--gorgeous writing and beautifully developed characters. The same is true of Liar's Moon. Fantastic.

Overall, didn't enjoy this nearly as much as STARCROSSED (which in turn I didn't enjoy nearly as much as A CURSE DARK AS GOLD) -- that said, I suspect that STARCROSSED hit a lot more of my buttons, which may be why I didn't care for this as much.

My biggest peeve was probably that we get multiple queer characters in this story -- yay! But they're all male. As a queer women who really enjoyed the first book, it was definitely frustrating for me, to say the least, even a bit hurtful. I More...

Yes. Yes indeed, Mr. Spock.

First things first, I cannot believe the ending of this book. The GALL. Oh, the gall. I'll give Ms. Bunce credit: she has balls to pull that off and I can't really be infuriated with her because she did it so damn well. But still. I was counting on her not to end it with a cliffhanger and she did, so that was a disappointment.
Therefore, the five star rating is actually six stars with one deducted. Got it? Good.
Now, how to rev More...

I have mixed feelings on this book. In some ways I actually liked it better than Starcrossed, the first novel in the series. This is a true mystery novel in a fantasy world, and I love mysteries. As a mystery novel it really works.

As a fantasy novel, magic is present yet is hardly ever used (I can think of only one use where it is truly significant to the plot). The beginning chapter really didn't work for me--the main character, who, unlike normal, is absolutely oblivious of curren More...

This was my VOYA review for this amazing book (yes, these are MY words in a nationally published professional journal); Some spoilers ahead:

Bunce brings back Digger, the clever thief/con artist from Starcrossed (Arthur A. Levine, 2010/VOYA February 2011), after leaving readers wondering what her fate would be once she departed from the Nemairs’ castle. Digger returns to Gerse, her hometown, and her previous way of life but is caught and thrown into a cell with Durrel Decath. Decath o More...

I found out about halfway through reading this that the third book in this series wouldn't be published because Starcrossed didn't sell well enough. I was offended because are you kidding me? These books are great! House of Night is ongoing with eleven books and Elizabeth C. Bunce can't get a third book when Thief’s Errant has both engaging characters and plot?

Just as entertaining as Star Crossed, though with more of a regular mystery this time around than the deep political chaos of the previous book. There is a nice blend of new and old characters here, though I'd have liked a little more communication between Digger and Merista--after spending so much time with the latter in the previous book, I just wanted to know how she was doing.

I liked that the war took place off-page, and that politics in the world were progressing, with Digger j More...

If you haven't already read Starcrossed, you should. Then come back and read this review of its sequel, which I liked just as much.

Digger is back in the city and in a heartbeat, she's in back in the thick of things - this time, she's been roped into helping her old friend Durrell. He's been imprisoned for killing his wife. Only, he says he didn't. And Digger believes him. So with the help of friends old and new, Digger starts to do what she does best - dig. Dig for information, c More...

I enjoyed this sequel to Starcrossed. It was $9 for my kindle which was a bit expensive but I really wanted to read it so I splurged. It continues on a few months after StarCrossed. It is a pretty good book though I am not sure I liked it as much as the first. The beginning is actually kind of boring.

Things I like:
1 - The ending. Though it makes me mad that I read this book already. I should have waited till the third one is out. Usually I try not to start a series unless i More...

I loved the last book, and I loved this one too.

The plot was thick with mystery again, and if you read Starcrossed, you'd know that it was full of twists. The only thing that bothered me was that this book was more like a detective doing an investigation, without much of the feel of the first one, but I let it slide. The stakes were lower too. I felt that the war wasn't touched upon at all, which I had been expecting to be the main point of this sequel, considering where we left off More...

Celeyn, also known as Digger, is an excellent thief, a believable liar, and is adept with some forms of magic. She can literally see traces of magic in others, a skill that her brother Werne, the Lord High Inquisitor, wishes to harness. In this continuation of Star Crossed, Digger is still suffering from the loss of Tegen, her true love and fellow thief. But when a friend of nobleman Durrel Decath enlists her aid in proving his friend's innocence, Digger is drawn to Durrel against her will. The More...

I loved the first book in this series but this one dragged for me. I think the book description killed it for me before I even began though. (The last line of the description has been changed on the Goodreads hardcover edition but remains the same on Amazon/kindle description.) Although there was no romance in the first novel, the chemistry between Digger and Wierolf was fantastic. The original description for this book gave away a romance with another character so I already started the book More...

Bunce doesn’t disappoint , this is a fantastic follow-up to StarCrossed!! The story starts rolling from the beginning and the pace continues till the end, and in between we are given ample adventure, sleuthing and yes, romance.

As with most fantasies, this one is filled with odd, unpronounceable names and that little bit of must have magic. However, this is no Tolkien read. It’s taut and straight forward, no long descriptions to bog the reader down. It also boasts a useful map and h More...

I was happy to be reunited with Digger, my favorite thief. In this second book, she is back in the city of Gerse and during a night spent in prison she is surprised to encounter an old friend. Durrel Decath was one of my favorite characters from book one, but he was only present briefly in the beginning and then dropped out of the story. I sensed a connection between these two, and felt sure we had not seen the last of him. In this book, he is in prison for the murder of his wife and Digger will More...

After StarCrossed, I'd have to say this was just disappointing. It was a pretty good read, and it started off well, but as it kept going, I just found myself losing interest. I didn't care as much about the characters, and the stakes were just so much lower. StarCrossed was a big adventure, and this was just... I don't know, less. At first, I couldn't put it down, but that was because I felt it building up to something. But the something never came. The plot didn't seem important in the way that More...

I really really enjoyed the first in this series, it had all the little stupid things I love in a fantasy novel. So I had high expectations for the second, and almost all of them were met. It was fast paced and exciting, and Digger is still a great narrator. However, many of the characters that I loved from the first book were not present in this at all. There were great new characters like Koya who deserves her own book, but I missed Meri and Wierolf. There was something about Durrel t More...

It took me a smidge longer to settle into this story compared to my instant coziness with StarCrossed (maybe because I like this cover even less? Maybe because I question the use of the phrase "Bite me" in this world?) but once I did, I savored it just as much.

Digger is out in the city again, so the story doesn't have the single setting of a castle to contain it, but there is a mystery that ties up the social classes and all the politics in such a way as to make Gerse se More...

The long-awaited sequel to StarCrossed is just as compelling and hard to put down as the first one. Digger is back in town after her frightening experiences in the north, but as she goes about her business she is captured and thrown in the prison Keep. The cell they put her in is already occupied: by the noble, Durrel Decath, accused of murdering his wife. Somebody, it seems, wants Digger to help clear his name--hence the reason she's tossed into his jail cell. As she begins to take on the t More...

Wow I am sure mad at myself for even starting this series--I love it and now I have to wait for who knows how long to find out what happens!!! This book was such a great sequel to the first and I couldn't put it down. It even gave me the little bit of romance that I was hoping for in the first book. I just love Digger and the mystery in this story was even better. I love how many of the same characters are back, but missed some of my favorites from book one. Well, I adored the first book in this series, Starcrossed, so it makes sense that I would love this one, too.

I think this one was a little more political than the last one (although I don't remember every detail from Starcrossed, so I could be wrong), which made it very intriguing.

Digger was back and just as fun as ever, although I do think I preferred her in the first book. She's a little more cautious this time around, I think.

Durrell was an interesting love in More...

Wow these books are so good. Well developed plot, characters, and world. Yay for strong female characters (who aren't always comparing themselves to men). Digger/Celyn is just so cool. It's clear she's talented, but she's not perfect. I also like it that she can pick locks, get in fights, and discover magic while in a dress. She's certainly not just some silly girl, but she's okay with being female (many characters from other books struggle with this). Though the author did fine without any roma More...

3.5 stars. I wish you could give half stars (hint, hint).
I enjoyed the book for 4 stars, but I felt the quality was 3. This was mainly due to the dialogue-which was jarring. It was far too modern sounding, much more so than the previous book. Also, the prose was stiffer. The two main plot twists were expected but well managed.
That being said, I love Digger/Celyn. As with other reviewers, I laud the strong heroine who doesn't spend her time mooning about gender equality, or how More...

Daring escapes, mystery, intrigue, and magic... Digger's continuing adventures definitely did not disappoint. The same skillful world building and well fleshed out characters are just as evident in Liar's Moon as it was in the first book Starcrossed, and I'm rabidly looking forward to the next installment in the series.

I enjoyed this book, but not nearly as much as its predecessor. This book takes place entirely in one location, with the main character from the first book and several new characters. None of the secondary characters from the first book appear in any major fashion, which is somewhat frustrating. This is especially true since the other characters from the first book are currently engaged in a plot line that is ultimately more important then the one that the main character stumbles More...

Liar's Moon was a bit dry to start off with thus the 4 stars.

I felt it kinda dropped from Starcrossed where there was so much adventure and mystery and people to get to know. In Liar's Moon we found ourselves back where Digger started but it took a good 100 pages for the adventure to start. Once it got running though, Digger's story became exciting and dangerous.
I absolutely loved the romance between Durrel and Digger, although I've been secretly wanting her with Prince Wiero More...

I am often, and have been recently, disappointed by sequels. Not this one. The action starts immediately, and there are no awkward paragraphs that try to provide a summary of the last book so you have context for this one. There are references to things that happen in Digger's past, but they are the normal references one has to things that happened in the past.

The story is good - not particularly unique, but very good and well told. There is ambiguity in who Digger really is - I'm n More...

An entertaining read with a surprise ending - not as good at the previous book in this series, which in turn was not as good as the author's first book (Curse as Dark as Gold), which I loved. The plot was more convoluted and Digger's ability to play a major role in events was much more limited. In addition, I do not think this works well as a standalone; I had read Star Crossed, the previous book, about a year ago and had a hard time remembering the nuances of the politics and related characte More...

This is the follow up title to Starcrossed, and it finds Digger back in her hometown with barely a moment to herself before she is called on to help her friend Lord Durrel Decath, he's accused of murdering his much older wife, and Digger is determined to prove his innocence. There are many complications in store as she navigates the dangerous waters of being magical while trying to figure out who she can trust. Meanwhile the war draws closer. . .

I loved the first book in this series, "Starcrossed", and I anxiously awaited the sequel all year. Maybe my anticipation was too great, but this book disappointed me a little. That special 'it' factor was missing from this one that was in the first book. There were still aspects that I loved about it, but it just wasn't as spectacular as the first book.

Of course, one of the things that I loved about the first book is still apparent in the sequel. Digger is such a fantastic More...

Digger, a.k.a. Celyn Contrare, is back in the city of Gerse. Following a strange series of events, she learns that her friend Durrel Decath stands accused of murdering his wife, a woman from one of Gerse’s wealthiest merchant families. Digger sets out to clear Durrel’s name, even though, as she puts it, “I had no experience investigating crimes; committing them, yes, but never reconstructing them, piece by piece, backward in time.” What follows is an exciting whodunit… with magic.
