This is one of those "cookbooks" that tries to boil down the science into a minimal working knowledge.
Lots of "how-to's" split into their own chapters but this isn't the book you want if you really want to understand the background math.
It actually does a really good job for what it is but I wasn't paying close attention when I bought it. If you hate math but need to do some counting then this is probably a decent book to read.

It's a decent refresher for the math classes I had that I barely remember. It's also entertaining with good examples and it's simple to find what you're looking for either through the index or table of contents.
