"Mobbed" by Carol Higgins Clark. Actually that is all I needed to read in order to place a pre-order. I would have been very shocked if I hadn't enjoyed this latest novel in the "A Regan Reilly Mystery" series.
As I predicted the book was a hit with me.
Megan and husband, Jack are looking forward to spending her Mother's birthday on the Jersey Shore. Jack has a high powered position with the NYPD, and Megan is a licensed Private Investigator which is another stressful job.

Well, as a Regan Reilly Mystery fan and I have read them all, this one was OK. There was no murders, but it took place at the Jersey shore. The Jersey Shore is dear to my heart. I have spent many happy times there especially at Seaside Heights, Ortley Beach, and Point Pleasant with all of my family. Carol Higgins Clark always writes about the New York area and New Jersey, even though she had Regan living in California the first few books of the series.

A great title and storyline about the Jersey Shore, garage sales, movie stars, dates from hell, stalkers and the book has a great cover! A dust jacket that teases the reader with all the pertinent highlights and really doesn't give away too much but just enough. Wow! So what went wrong and earned this a two star rating of 'it was ok'?
The book has a weak opening. The pacing of the story line is not to my liking. What is presented in the first twenty pages is close to sophomoric writing. This 255...more

First I have to point out the one disappointing aspect of the book. I live in New Jersey and I really looked forward to reading this book. The dust jacket describes the characters as traipsing from the beauitifully restored Victorian resort town of Cape May to....
The characters are never in Cape May. It mentions the casinos and walking the boardwalk of Atlantic City --- one character in one part of one scene takes place on the Boardwalk of Atlantic City.

This series definitely gets better as it goes along. Regan becomes more comfortable as a character and the addition of Jack was a nice one and they work well together as a detective pair. Ms. Clark also makes better use of supplementary characters. A lot of them felt more like they could be real people rather than the caricatures more common in the earlier installments in the series, which made them feel very day time tv.

"Mobbed" by Carol Higgins Clark is another in her Regan Reilly Mystery series. I really like this series. Regan is a really likeable character, as is her new husband, Jack, Head of the NYPD Major Case Squad. This story takes place at the Jersey Shore where Regan and Jack head for a little R and R with Regan's Mom and Dad for her Mom's Birthday. As usual, their R and R turns into a mystery, or a couple of mysteries involving a movie star, a garage sale, a trunk full of skulls, and a business call...more
Another quick read by Carol Higgins Clark. This book is about a garage sale on the Jersey Shore where a star (Cleo's) items were sold. A stalker has been sending Cleo dead roes with thorns as real life imitates the movie she starred in. Cleo's mom hires private investigator Regan Reilly to find her daughter who has many enemies among the envious Hollywood crowd. Cleo hides out and relaxes at a dude ranch nearby but is unaware that someone is closing in on her to hurt her. A typical Carol Higgins...more
Great plot, it's a different style of writing that is taking some getting accustomed to.
I had really looked forward to receiving this book as I have enjoyed several of Carol Higgins Clark books in the past. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more had I read the previous "Regan Reilly Mysteries" (which means I have a lot of catching up to do).
It was a very fast read and would be a good book for a quick read.
Wish they had a 1/2 star, this is 3.5 almost a 4, and might be a 4 after I read the rest of the...more

PI Regan Reilly and her husband, Jack, head of the NYPD Major Case Squad, plan to spend the weekend at the Jersey shore with her parents. Regan’s mother, suspense writer Nora Regan Reilly, will be celebrating her birthday on Saturday. But Regan’s weekend gets off to an early start when she receives a phone call from her mother asking if she’d hop on a train right away.

Carol Higgins Clark's books are always fun and zany - but they're a bit too zany for my taste. They're always a quick read, though, and a departure from what I normally read. The books aren't the type of mysteries where you can figure out who did it; you just enjoy the story and wait until the end to find out - sometimes its someone completely out of left field. Try this series if you're looking for an afternoon diversion. I read this book in a couple hours.
Another easy reading, Regan Reily mystery. Sometimes we just need a book that you can breeze through without engaging your brain and Carol Higgins Clark is a master in this arena. Regan's cases get always entangled, this mystery is no exception; but, how can one conceive that having a potential mate investigated, the mysterious disappearence of a well-known celebrity and a yard sale could cause such an adventure? Only in the life of private invstigator Regan Riley can such an adventure entangle...more
This was definitely light reading, or listening in my case since I listened to the audiobook edition. It was maybe a bit fluffy for my taste, but it was fun and I can see why Ms. Clark's books sell well. The plot kind of made me think of a balloon or shuttlecock being batted back and forth but never falling down. I really liked the fact that it doesn't contain gratuitous sex, violence and foul language.
Regan is onto another set of mysteries. This one revolves around a garage sale and includes subplots of her friends Hayley (boyfriend just proposed to another woman) and Kit (latest setup, courtesy of Regan, was more interested in talking about invertebrates than talking to her) struggling to find love. The main plot is of an actress whose quick departure precipitates the garage sale.
Thin plot. This is more misery than mystery She will never be as good as her mother. Every time I pick up one of her books I am disappointed. She is trading on her name. Don't bother with this one. I read it in one afternoon that I just wanted to sit and rest. I rested my body and my mind because I could follow it without using my brain. Sorry Carol I think I'm finished with you
For once I actually really enjoyed this book by Carol Higgins Clark. The writing and story line was better than usual and it wasn't completely obvious who the killer was. Jack and Regan are set to spend some vacation time at the Jersey Shore when a famous actress goes missing. Regan is on the case and Alvira (the lottery winner) is part of the fun.
I always enjoy the Regan Reilly mysteries because they are a quick read. There were definitely some very interesting characters; I never even guessed who was stalking Cleo. It is a very light read that is not complex at all, and sometimes it's ok to read a more simplistic book. Overall, a very enjoyable plot line with enjoyable characters.
Fast-paced and entertaining, this novel gets 4 stars because of the uncanny ability of its author to keep readers guessing all the way to the VERY end. She introduces so many different characters who could be the culprit, and keeps them up as suspicious characters to the very last page or so. My first by CHC, it won't be the last. I really liked it! =)
Just terrible shit! I listened to this on a road trip and considered MANY times if the AM Radio bible banging religious white guy telling me I was going to hell would be better than listening to this book. It was a toss up. So glad it was from the library and I could put it in the dropbox and no one would see me.
This book was horribly slow and hard to get into. There were far too many characters and I didnt have an emotional bond with any of them! At the end when the big reveal of the stalker happened they said his name and I immediately though "i dont even know who that is". Definitely not up to par with her mothers brilliant writing style.
How can anyone not think this book was funny? It was a good escape for a few days. I couldn't put the book down and like always was surprised by the ending. You never can guess who the culprit will be. I just can't wait to see Regan and Jack finally have kids. That will be an adventure in of itself.
It's challenging for me to follow a book where there are many different characters, all using first person. I had to figure out who was talking and then who that person was in relation to the main character. I don't typically enjoy books where I have to think a lot! But I was happy that I figured out "who did it" before it was revealed.
