3.5 stars. This is a truly beautiful book and just to hold it and look at it is an experience. Marr uses the biography of Mutio Oddi to elucidate the culture of mathematical learning and knowledge exchange in late Renaissance Italy and to discuss the historical implications of the recently re-discovered painting by Oddi and his friend/patron Peter Linder, called The Linder Gallery.
