I'm so disappointed by that book. The opening part looks promising enough and the writing is descent, but the story is ruined by the childish, immature, needy heroine and the poor way she and her friends carelessly handled the murder mysteries which haunted their neighborhood. And the ending is just bad, bad, bad, BAD.
April, I know your father was recently murdered and your mother was having an affair even before your dad's body was cold. Surely it sucks. But it doesn't mean everyone has to let More...

To start with, I wasn't the biggest fan of the first book in this series 'By Midnight' but I did love the idea behind it so decided to give this one a shot with the hopes that it would get better.
Darkness Falls picks up right where By Midnight left off, following April and the bad things that have been happening around her. From here, I remembered how much April bugged me. Yes, she has had a hell of a lot to deal with so I could sympathise with her in that respect but overall, she's childish an More...

This book was okay ... but just that . Okay.
It was a fast read and it didn't take me long to finish it, but still. It really wasn't that interesting.
I feel like they are going through the same stuff over and over and OVER again.
And well, April? YOU ANNOY ME!! She keeps talking about the adults behaving like children, but OMG! HAVE YOU LOOKED IN A MIRROR?? I know she has only just turned 17 in this book, but GOD, she behaves like a child! She is screaming all the time and keeps getting into fi More...

The story is of April, who has recently escaped a murder and is trying to find a cure for her vampire boyfriend so that he won’t die
I didn’t enjoy this book, whether it was the fact that it was another paranormal romance, which all appear to be exactly the same since ‘Twilight’, or that I didn’t like the idea behind it, I don’t know, but it didn’t go down well with me at all.

why Mia james? why??! i was so excited for this book and waited ages to get my hands on the 2nd in ravenwood/by midnight trilogy, I will start with the bad points, darkness falls starts off immediately where the first book by midnight left off april recovering after a psycopath tried to kill her in a similar fashion to the other killings in Highgate area, she is well aware that she is going to a school of deadly vampires and decides to take risks further by mixing with them, knowing full well th More...

Earlier this year, when I read By Midnight I was really pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it. I'd been really looking forward to the sequel and snapped it up as soon as it came out.
Sadly, it was really disappointing.
The atmospheric quality that made By Midnight intriguing seemed to be completely absent. April was no longer fun and independent. Rather, she was selfish and over-dramatic and kinda dumb. Sure, there's a certain amount of character behaviour that you can let go due to grief More...

I enjoyed the first book in this series and am always a bit hesitant when starting the second book in a series as often they don't quite meet the expectations I've built up in my head for how the story is going to go. I am pleased to say in this case I think I enjoyed book 2 even more and am once again left on tender hooks waiting to see what happens next.
I liked how this book did all of the things I liked in book 1 just as well. I loved the dynamic between April and her friends. I loved the fee More...

I was very excited to hear of Darkness Falls by Mia James, the sequel to By Midnight. By Midnight was the first book I finished this year, and I loved the combination of mystery, romance and creep factor involved in the story about an infestation of vampires in this fancy school near Highgate Cemetery. It was thrilling and exciting and I thought it would be a hard book to follow. I'm thrilled to say that if anything, I enjoyed Darkness F More...

Throughout Darkness Falls I was kept constantly guessing over what was going to happen next. Their was enough suspense and mystery to keep me guessing and wanting to find out what was going to happen, but not enough to told to give it all away.
Through most of the book I was still in two minds over Gabriel and couldn't decide whether I like him or not. I didn't like how he acted towards April, ignoring her in public but being OK in private, but the minute someone showed interest in her her was ri More...

'Darkness Falls' is the second book in the Ravenwood Mysteries series by Mia James (the pseudonym for husband and wife writing duo Tasmina and John Perry). The story picks up from where 'By Midnight' left off. April is learning to cope after her father's death and after the shocking discovery that she is a Fury - the one thing that vampires truly fear. Having introduced all the characters and established the storyline, it was nice to see a bit more action in this installment as April faces the t More...

Please bear in mind that this is Book 2 in the series and may therefore contain spoilers from the previous book, By Midnight review here.
The prologue of this book brings to mind images of Jack the Ripper, the scene is set immediately just by the chapter heading, however I had trouble reconcile the image of Jack the Ripper as a vampire. This notion could just be my over active imagination adding 2 and 2 together to make 5.
The story picks up a few weeks after the stunning ending of By Midnight. Th More...

Not at all what I expexted. I really though Ben was sweet and really just being interested, maybe a bit jellous, but never did I expect this! And my word the regent...some friend. I just really wish April would speak to her mother, she knows something that April needs to know, I can just feel it! Poor Gabe, always getting ti wrong, hopefully he gets something right very soon. Cannot wait to see what happens next. Who else knows about April and who are they actually looking for? Such a thrilling More...

I really liked this book.
I kinda got annoyed with April, she didnt seem to know what she wanted. One minute she would really love Gabe, then another she would be staring at Ben. Wanting to bring down the Regent and help the students at Ravenwood, then another not caring about them and only wants to find her fathers killer.
She, for one should know things are not what they seem. But she always seems to jump to conclusions and be very hot-headed about things.
I love Gabe, I admit he could do with a More...

I am a HUGE fan of this series and loved the first book By Midnight as you can see from my review. So much so I went and visited Highgate Cemetery when I was in London, have a look at my pictures here.
Darkness Falls, starts were By Midnight ended on it's awesome cliffhanger. April feels guilty for infecting a deadly virus onto her boyfriend Gabriel, whom is a vampire. I really love April as a main character, she is a bit selfish in the typical teenage style, she can kick some ass but still lacks More...

Where to start? The reason I liked the first book is the fact it takes place in England/started in Scotland, kind of. And I loved the cover. Conteporary. Vampires. Let`s give it a chance. So when I was on my vacation to England this summer I knew it wouldn`t kill me to read the second book.
I didn`t love By Midnight but it didn`t irritate me as much as Darkness Falls.
The plot. So killing the Regent didn`t help and we need another book. Big surprise. Vampires are still after April. Duh.

CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Holy moly! After reading a couple of reviews I was worried that this book might be suffering from 'Middle Book Syndrome' so I began reading it with trepidation. However I was quickly involved in the story and I couldn't put the book down. I actually felt more attachment to this book than the first. The characters had grown, the situation had become more intense and I was sharpening my nails ready to defend April at any given moment.

In what feels like the long- awaited sequel to "By Midnight", Mia James comes back firing into the lives of April Dunne and her love, Gabriel.
Darkness Falls, opens up with April trying to deal with her father's death and the impending death of her boyfriend, Gabriel who she seem to have infected with Demon's Breath. Not only is she toxic to vampires, but she sets herself a task of finding a unique book that has the cure to cure him of the disease.
But things aren't as easy as she would have liked More...

More action..More secrets and lots of drama. I have to say i really liked this a lot more then book one i think it come down to the fact that there was always something going on and i had no chance to get bored. They was lot's of information to take in and the ending was brilliant i did not see that coming at all. It left we wondering what is going to happen in the next book and i'm pleased to say i can't wait to read it. While book one was not as good for me book two really picked up and exceed More...

3.5 stars
This is a book I read in two days a couple weeks ago and so I can barely remember what happened, but Darkness Falls was a nice sequel to By Midnight. It still had all the intrigue, murder mystery and excitement as the first installment, as well as lots of historical details, which is definitely a plus compared to your average YA book. It's very interesting to read about the history of the vampires in Ravenwood and it was neatly done.
April and her friends are slowly but surely unravellin More...

Just as good as the first book, maybe even a little better. Slightly annoying in parts, what with April jumping the gun over jealousy with Gabriel (jeez... talk about drama!) and being stubborn over things with her mother, but over all... I liked it. Hoping for book 3? YESS!

Overall, while the majority of the book had disappointed me on a couple of levels but I still enjoyed that explosive ending of Mia James's which will make all readers happy. If you love a book that's Buffy meets a little bit of Veronica Mars (only with a mystery revolving around the supernatural) or have already started this series, then DARKNESS FALLS is definitely your kind of book!

series is kinda cliche the way the hot guy falls for the new girl in town.it was okay, not great for its genre.i couldn't really get into ,it seemed sort of random to me at times.

I had zero interest in this book from the beginning. Bland and very uninspiring. DNF, unfortunately

this book was really good, a little slow at the beginning, but it got better towards the end.

I read this books pretty fast, but I wouldn't say that it was anything special. If I need to describe it with couple words they probably would be "okay" & "a bit boring"
Mar 06, 2012
The main character was so whiny that I wanted to claw my eyes out 2/3 through the book.
