Actually really enjoyed this one.

It was about healing.. both physically and emotionally.

It never really had me groaning with annoyance, which is good.

Though I think I'm getting over controlling / dominating men. Nothing wrong with a sexy man in charge, but sometimes that man needs to be dominated himself, and these books never give me that.

I think I would have made Silas wait longer before being forgiven/sexy fun times. 10 years is a lot of time to deal with someone's abandonment. Not to mention...more

Synopsis:
Silas Compton always had his eye on Lucy, the veterinarian’s daughter. He was even content to wait for the girl of his dreams to grow up before getting anywhere near her with his family’s double-edged legacy.
Waiting around led to fooling around with his best friend—and an impulsive eruption of desire that Lucy’s innocent eyes weren’t meant to see. Figuring Compton Pass wasn’t big enough for either the three of them or the pain he’d caused, Silas let loose his tightly reined wanderlust a...more

I always wondered what it would be like to write a story with someone, and judging by the highly entertaining author blurb, Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon had a ball.

The series is an intriguing take on four Wyoming brothers as their disparate lives converge back home at Compass Ranch for a family crisis. As per usual with cowboy romances, the eldest brother, Silas, left home for tragic reasons and is only returning a decade later because of traumatic injury.

Happily, that's where "typical" ends with t...more

My Review:
This was an interesting book- a totally new style for me to read, but I really enjoyed it. Silas left for Alaska 10 years ago- running after Lucy caught him and Colby together. Now he's been hurt in a drilling rig accident and has had to come home to recover. Colby and Lucy are married now, but they both still love Silas and want him to be part of their relationship. It's been 10 years and Silas never guessed that he hadn't totally blown his relationship with both Lucy and Colby. He lo...more

This book was a freebie on Amazon and of course I had to snatch it up. I needed a break between reviewe books and decided that this would be a steamy, quick read to break up the monotony. Well...it was certainly steamy. o_O Let me preface by saying I love menages and erotic romance. So the fact that this was a menage story was a plus, not a minus for me. Northern Exposure got off to a good start for me. I felt Si's angst and pain at being caught making out with his best friend, Colby, by his bes...more

This was another random buy from the All Romance Ebooks website. I had some high hopes for it...it sounded like a great story...but the book didn't really live up to my expectations. Which is disappointing.

Series Note:
First book in the "Compass Brothers" series about four brothers raised on a Wyoming ranch who take off to different parts of the U.S. to start new lives.

Summary:
As a teenager, Silas Compton wanted Lucy, but knowing she was too young and that he wanted her too much, he left her alon...more

The overall tempo of the story was extremely fast paced. It is based upon circumstances that the reader "knows" happened. A lot of the back information comes in waves of reflection, but it is nicely built into the story. The emotional bond between the characters is strong and long lasting. Based upon the presupposition that the characters had a firm emotional relationship prior to the first scene, allows the reader to base certain view points into certain situations. The story takes a lot for gr...more

It was okay. I gave it three stars because the sex scenes (there were five) were really hot and it wasn't too difficult to keep track of where everyone was which can be tricky with a true menage. I would have liked to have seen more background on the childhood friendship between Lucy, Colby and Silas. I find it a little odd that while she was able to call Red a few times and Silas video-conferenced with his brothers often, Lucy wrote him regular LETTERS. Which Silas refused to read. Really? Over...more

This was a fast paced Cowboy story with a twist. (M/M, M/F/M)
The trio went from being best friends growing up to Silas leaving as he has a wicked attraction to both Lucy and Colby.

After leaving his ranch and home in Wyoming to go live and work up in Alaska right after his incident with Colby, he returns 10 years later when he is injured from a near fatal accident, and his two best friends and object of his real affections, are now husband and wife. After brief thought both Colby and Lucy decide...more

God, is was waaaay to sappy for me. I just don't like these MMF books where all three participants act like the other person hung the moon and bursts into tears if either of them has less than 15 orgasms in an hour period. This book was more unrealistic in that you have cowboys, in conservative Wyoming, being shoved into this threesome relationship by their parents and family members. Let me ask you. How many cowboy books with a MM or ménage theme do you find the families pushing the men to get...more

I tried so hard to finish this book. I like Mari Carr a lot. Something in this story just didn't feel right. I didn't understand what there was to love about Silas except for the fact that he was bossy. He's a stubborn grouch who doesn't have the courage of his convictions. I get running away when you're young, but he doesn't seem to grow or change. I read about 70% on my Kindle, and then I had to give up. Colby (whose name makes me think of cheese or a Dynasty rerun) didn't have much of a perso...more

This is more of a 3 1/2 star read for me. I really enjoyed the story. Although short, you really get to see a full glimpse of each character. They become pretty fleshed out in such a short amount of space. However, it seemed there were times when I would get confused about who was standing where or saying what. Now I'm super tired today so it could just be my exhausted brain not working properly, but when they happens, it pulls me out of the story completely, and I hate that.

Overall, a good book...more

So in a lot of books I've read with multiple partners you get bogged down in each partner playing the assumption game which leads to secrets and hurt feelings. That wasn't the case with this story. Well it was at the beginning which lead to Silas leaving for 10 years. But once he returned neither Lucy or Colby made assumptions about how the other felt and thought that they would be excluded. Very refreshing. All they had to do was reassure Silas that they had room in their marriage for him.

A good start to the 4 book series about the Compton brothers; the back-story at the beginning laid everything out very well.

However, I thought Silas was an ass for all his illogical thinking, but Colby and Lucy almost made up for it with their strong characters.

After 10 years of sulking and whining in Alaska, and a horrifying accident, Silas comes home to his parents, Colby and Lucy.
And I couldn't help but grimace at how easily C and L could forgive Silas. However, prejudice apart, I liked how s...more

Woah!!!, this was a guilty pleasure book! But honestly, there's a very touching story behind this one. Silas, son of a rancher, leaves his Wyoming ranch suddenly after he's caught kissing his best male friend. He's fallen in love with him AND his girlfriend. Fearing a lack of acceptance, he escapes to Alaska, where he works for 10 years in various jobs, the most recent being on an oil rig. A horrible accident leaves him injured and he makes the trek home for his recovery. At home are his former...more

2.5 stars. I liked the concept, but the execution lacked. I enjoyed the parts of the book without any sex, but the sex scenes were cliched and there were never any moments of hesitancy as the man Colby and Lucy loved came back sfter 10 years. Although he hafd a compound fracture of his femur, and was only a few days post surgery, Silas was able to screw them both. The talk during the sex scenes completely threw me out of what was otherwise a good story. The sex scenes seemed to be all about sex,...more

This one was about what I expected when I started. I did like the brother’s closeness, and how Silas’s family reacted once he came back. I loved that both of his parents encouraged him to do what would make him happy no matter what, shocking him as what would make him happy is a relationship with both Lucy and Colby. I loved that all three of them jumped into things with both feet not caring what others thought. I especially loved all the support that they found while not really expected it.

Other than this book a little too Hollywood sugary sweet in the lovey dovey parts, it was well written. In true menage style, we had M/F, M/M, M/M/F and M/F/M and probably variations I've forgotten now. A lot of unanswered questions at the end, that tie in with the next book in the series.

I loved this book. It was hard to put down. All the sugary ILY's and vows to stay together forever made my teeth ache from the sweetness. Yes, it got to be too much.

I liked the characters just fine, though I wa...more

An erotic romance that deals with a man's struggle with his own sexuality, with the social ramifications of decisions that he might make because of it, and his desire to protect his family. Ten years away has resulted in a life that has become empty and Silas has become brittle and a person who has stored away his emotions in a distant place. It is another well-written story that brings characters to life and paints pictures of the beauty and power of the Alaskan wilderness, its power to enthral...more

I really liked this story. Have always loved the friends to lovers theme.
This story had some smokin' hot love scenes a couple of which I had to think about how does that work. LOL
My only complaint was that I thought that Silas was really stupid to run away for 10 years and never read any of the letters Lucy sent him. He kept them but didn't read them. If he had, everything would have been all cleared up. Other than that, I loved how strong, caring and sweet Lucy was and now want to read Seth's s...more

got this as a Kindle free read. it started out with lots of potential and then got ridiculous. i couldn't finish it.

the only thing spot on was the drama of Silas' accident--it was easy for me to picture that turn of events as if it was on a movie screen.

except for showing the affair between Silas and Red, the sex scenes ruined the book, IMO. a note to the authors--whether slow and sweet or fast and furious, erotica is supposed to be sexy, NOT pornographic. tone down the porn language next time,...more

This is the first book I have read by either of these authors. I met Mari Carr at RAW 2012 (Lora Leigh's Readers Appreciation Weekend). I liked her and wanted to find some of her books to read. Northern Exposure has been calling to me for some time, but I was afraid to buy it. I have been burned enough in the past to be cautious. I will mention upfront that there is M/M sex throughout this story so those of you that don't enjoy this type of action be forewarned. Now anyone that Has read my revie...more

Great start to a new series for me!

(view spoiler)[A married couple were and continue to be in love with the same man. He loved them both as well but his shame and fear and a little bit of self-loathing kept his away from them as he tortured himself in Alaska. After a terrible accident kills his friend he is forced to face his past and the two people he left 10 years ago. (hide spoiler)]

I used to only read PNR but I am starting to like some cowboys and some MMF!!!

normally i despise the 10 year separation, but in this case it worked really well. the connection between the characters was really strong, and the family ties of land and history, and how that can blend with life choices was very well written. if you're looking for a book with a menage relationship, this one handles the subject very well, with story line.

Okay, from the first chapter you could tell this was the beginning of a series, but I did like how it just dove into Silas' story. One minute he is reluctantly leaving home and then it is ten years later and he is in Alaska, a rough and damaged man. He gets hurt and has to go home, where we get in touch with the Lucy and Colby who he left behind. I have to admit I like the passion more than the sex scenes, but everybody accepted things as they now were and moved on, none of this dragging it on a...more

Hot, hot, hot!!! Interesting story with well developed characters. I thought the M/M sex scenes would ruin the book for me but while it's not my thing this author managed to add depth to the characters that you forget about being bothered by the situation and start hoping for the best for the charact ers. Look forward to reading more from this author.

I have read Jayne Rylon entire Powertools series and it is VERY VERY HOT. However I never read anything by Mari Carr.

I really enjoyed the first installment in the Compass Brothers series. And plan on reading the rest. It defiantly wouldn't be a Jayne Rylon book with out hot Menage scenes. Very hot MMF scenes in this book so if that isn't your thing don't read this book.

I liked the love relationship between Lucy, Colby and Silas, I like how the authors wrote that there are no boundaries on love....more

Northern Exposure (Compass Brothers, #1)
Jayne Rylon’s stories usually begin as a daydream in an endless business meeting. Her writing acts as a creative counterpoint to her straightlaced corporate existence. She lives in Ohio with two cats and her husband who both inspires her fantasies and supports her careers. When she can escape her office, she loves to travel the world, avoid speeding tickets in her beloved Sky and, of course, read....more
