I picked this up in an airport last weekend, and I believe it's the first Sandra Brown novel I've read. Which is impressive, because she's got more than 70 novels in print under a couple of different names. Ricochet is a character-driven mystery novel centering on Duncan, a detective with a rock-solid moral core and Elise, a beautiful trophy wife who may or may not have committed murder. As Duncan investigates the shooting, he is increasingly attracted to and drawn in by the lovely and myster...more
Bristling with Brown’s trademark suspense, Ricochet stars upstanding police detective Duncan Hatcher, frustrated with his inability to nail criminal extraordinaire, Robert Savich. Savich has recently gone free despite being guilty of murder, courtesy of smooth, handsome judge Cato Laird calling a mistrial. Before he knows who she is, Duncan finds himself attracted to Judge Laird’s beautiful wife, Elise. When she is involved in a fatal shooting at their posh residence, Duncan knows she’s hidin...more
I've been reading mostly suspense lately, including a lot of romantic suspense, or "suspense with romantic elements". Unfortunately, too much of it has been mediocre to virtually unreadable. Then I came across a copy of Sandra Brown's "Ricochet" on our shelves at home. I hadn't read anything by Brown yet, but my wife had read "Ricochet" several years ago and enjoyed it, adding it to our "keeper" collection. I picked it up and was hooked in the first fe...more
I don't know why, but the whole time i was reading this book I kept thinking that Sandra Brown has some kind of patter with her mystery/thrillers: murder some people, place the blame on some faulty character who insists is innocent and that someone is framing them/trying to murder them, confuse reader about the moral code of all the characters & finally conclude the story with the most ovbious solution that one of the morally-inept characters was trying to push off on us from the beginning.

Acho que me vou repetir…Adorei, adorei, adorei! Gostei da Elise, ame...more
Kdo ho poslal, pokud ano? Proč je její jméno najednou spojováno s mnoha dalšími gaunery včetně toho největšího -...more
This wasn’t Sandra Brown’s best, but it’s not her worst, either. The good was Brown’s ability to build suspense – she’s one of the best. But not all of the characters worked for me. Duncan was a little too ruled by his hormones, and sometimes had mood swings that didn’t make much sense. His partner, DeeDee, was essentially the stereotypical homely girl who automatically hates anyone who is pretty whether she has a reason to or not. Elise is intended to be a mystery. You’re never quite sure which...more
I won this book as part of Goodreads giveaways and first reads.
I had a rather nice, long, detailed review written up and then the window crashed and I lost it. Well, damn. So I'm going to try and piece it together again.

I enjoyed this book.
I got this book at the library as a "Playaway" book. This was my first experience with this kind of recorded book, and it was an interesting experience. I know absolutely nothing about the Playaway recording medium other than what I was able to surmise from this one recording. It is certainly an improvement over traditional recordings on CD. But the biggest problem to me was the short battery life. It runs on a single triple A battery that died before t...more

Ricochet is a moderately enjoyable thriller (rating it between 2 and 3). The plot's just interesting enough to keep on reading. There’s a mystery in this novel about the major female character, Elise Laird, and about whether her motives are good or not. I found that aspect of the mystery intriguing, but I thought the author took too long in developing it. In my opinion there are too many long passages in the middle of this book where the police characters speculate about who did what, and why. O...more
Good book. I kinda assumed the woman did it and was just selling sex to get out of it. Clever. The ending was actually brilliantly done. It's been a long time since I finished going WOW! That was awesome! I approve. But, there were still some things that were predictable, thus it had to lose one star.
I picked up this little gem at the airport. It's pretty bad, but I think I'll finish it anyway. I just finished Anna Karenina and this is like a palette cleanser before I tackle another tome.
Okay, I just finished this and it had some very steamy sex scenes. But otherwise, not really worth its paper.

[audio] This was a TNT Mystery feature and I can say that the book was better than the movie. Despite that, I had little sympathy for Duncan Hatcher, the Savannah detective whose case against an "evil" drug lord was dropped when Judge Cato Laird declared a mistrial for a trivial cause. His attraction to Elise Laird, the judge's trophy wife, came across more as stupid than destined. Though billed as romantic suspense, it didn't feel "romantic" to me, just driven. Despite my la...more

This is only the second Sandra Brown novel I've read so I got a little worried for a while in the middle wondering if there was a similar format followed in the books. In the end enjoyed the suspense, twist's and turns in the plot lines. The book is about a detective, Duncan Hatcher and his partner DeeDee who are called in to investigate a murder at the house of judge Cato Laid who had recently sent Duncan to jail on a charge of contempt of court (3 days) when Duncan lost his temper with the jud...more

Great book by Sandra Brown that kept you guessing throughout if the judge's wife is a cold hearted killer or if her life really is in danger. The character's that were interwoven into the story were very real, especially that of lead detective Duncan Hatcher. You saw many sides of him: the hard nosed detective; the pastor's son struggling with moral issues; and the man falling in love with a supsect. I also liked the fact that Duncan's partner was a women (that he was not romantically involv...more

interesting. very sly characters...
This one was just ok, the Elise wasn't very likable for most of the book. I do understand the choices she made, so while she whored herself out in the name of justice I don't agree with them. Duncan had his own belief system in place and Elise made him through it out the window, which made me think less of him too.
The more I read this authors books I find that these type of characters run rampant. I think the author means to use the book as redemption for them, but for me it just ...more

I am about 25 pages into this book and this is another author that I have read a couple of times before, but once again I have been hit in the face with the language. I am going to continue to read, but if it gets to be like Nora Roberts The Search I will not be able to finish this. I remember when books just didn't have the harsh language in it. I guess it is like movies though they tend to go with what is popular and will sell the book.

I pray, I hope, I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed - that Sandra Brown's next book will have the vital ingredients that made her older books such wonderful reads and which made Ricochet one of the most thrilling reads of 2006 for me.
While I'm one of those who are skeptical of the H & H falling madly in love after one encounter, I did buy into Hatcher's obsession with Elise. She was the unnattainable, the forbidden and she played Hatcher like a pro (out of necessity, of course). ...more

Homicide detective Duncan Hatcher is a gung-ho, and sometimes sort of a rogue cop who pushes all the issues to the fullest envelope content. When he sees outlandish criminal Robert Savich released by Judge Cato Laird when Hatcher knew there was enough evidence on this man to put him away for a long time, he becomes obsessed at finding more evidence to keep Savich off the streets. DeeDee Bowen is Hatcher’s partner. She is very gung-ho but not to the extent of...more

I really like romantic suspense novels and after hearing K. advertise this one so much I just had to add it to my TBR pile. It was a good move because I enjoyed it very much.
When Detective Sergeant Duncan Hatcher is summoned to the home of Judge Cato Laird in the middle of the night to investigate a fatal shooting, he knows that discretion and kid-glove treatment are the keys to staying in the judge's good graces and keeping his job. I have to start out by thanking Goodreads and Sandra Brown for sending a signed copy.
This was my first experience with this author and I wasn't thrilled. The book seemed to be full of contradictions. For example the main character supposedly full of chatacter, intelligent and saw everything as black and white yet, the whole book was how he lacked in all those attributes.

OK OK, so I cheated for this one. I 'listened' to it as I made one of my dozen or so trips to Nashville. It was pretty easy to get into and I enjoyed it for the most part. A bit disappointed in the ending but I guess thats what you can expect from the CIA, FBI, National security stand point. I really enjoyed the characters but wish they had developed the sister (Chief) and Roy a little bit more. Maybe elaborated on the ending with the thug crew as well. I felt like I was just left hanging.
This was a good book. I found it fascinating and frustrating. The prologue hinted at an ending that I thought was what happened throughout the majority of the book, but near the end there was a twist. I have to say that I really enjoy reading Sandra Brown and will be looking for more of her books. Most crime stories I can guess, and although they shared who did what at the beginning, you still were not sure until the end. I really liked it.
