A computer techie by trade, Dewey Pellicano would rather swallow needles than be pinned down to a life of quilting. But when her mother passes away, Dewey must exchange code for calico as the new proprietress of Quilter Paradiso.

Between learning the business and dealing with a conniving employee who is also her sister-in-law, Dewey is ready to snap. During a national quilt...more

Very good book. Again, I must complain about the stinkin' cop as love interest angle that all of the cozy writers are using lately. It's really old. But at least Terri Thayer uses a little bit of a different twist for her romance. 1st of all, Buster is the childhood friend of Dewey's little brother. 2nd of all, there is sex! WOOHOO! At least if you are going to give them someone to moon over, give me a reason to moon as well! LOL

Dewey recently lost her mother and inherited her family's legacy......more

Terri Thayer has taken a few chances with Wild Goose Chase by mixing genres. That is, the chemistry (oh, yes, sex), blood and a bit of profanity are usually not found in cozies. Also the subplots of characters grieving the main character's mother's tragic death adds uncommon depth to this cozy mystery.

Quilting as a conceit works well. Thayer has her main character Dewey Pellacrino, a laid off dot-com nerd, piece facts of different story lines together after a quilt artist has been murdered. Here...more

A fun read that has a lot to commend it. There is humor, mystery, romance, betrayal, and beneath it all, an emotional core. The pacing was pitch perfect and there was a quirky self-deferential humor from the protagonist, Dewey Pellicano. Thayer had me hooked by page five when Dewey's annoying sister-in-law, Kym, pulled out a ruffled computer cozy to cover a laptop. She thought the computer clashed with the homespun calicos and gingham theme of their booth at a quilting convention.

A computer cozy...more

Of course, I love quilting and all things fabric, so this book was on my list. The author states, "I wrote the book I couldn't find." She was right - I have not found this kind of book either in the quilting/fabric/mystery genre. The heroine's mother, who was recently and unexpectedly killed by a drunk driver was a quilter and owned a fabric shop. The heroine is caught between the unreleting grief she feels for her mother, the selfish rantings of her sister-in-law who works in the shop, her own...more

Dewey Pellicano is not enamored of quilts and quilting and has steadfastly refused to share her mother's love of the craft. When she was out of work as a computer nerd, her mother hires her to install a computer system in her store. Her mother died suddenly in a hit and run accident and Dewey is left with the store, a lot of grief, and a lot of unresolved issues.

Her store is vending at a large quilt show and expo, as she continues to argue with her sister-in-law who is a luddite quilter and an e...more

Wild Goose Chase is the first book in the Quilting Mystery series by Terri Thayer, set in modern-day San Jose CA. This series will appeal primarily to quilters who also enjoy reading cozy mysteries.

Dewey Pellicano, a software engineer by profession, inherited her mother's quilt shop, Quilter Paradiso, after her mother's sudden unexpected death in a hit-and-run accident.

Dewey plans to roll out a new computerized cash register system at a quilt show. Her sister-in-law Kym resists all change and i...more

Dewey Pellicano, a computer techie, inherits her mother’s quilting shop, Quilter Paradiso. She “would rather swallow needles than be pinned down to a life of quilting.” Dewey is learning the business, trying to computerize the inventory and setting up and working at a booth at a national quilting show. Her employee who happens to be her sister-in-law is driving her crazy as she does not support anything Dewey is doing and just wants Dewey to back to her computer life and leave her alone to run t...more

For those of you who think you have to be a quilter to appreciate it, you're wrong. I don't quilt and had trouble putting it down.

4 stars because: 1) Some strong characterization. a) A sympathetic protagonist, who is out of her element and trying to adjust. However, she was a little too clueless at times. b) An annoying sister-in-law, who is important to the tension in the story. It was not necessary for the story line, but I would like to hear more of her story. c) Quirky peripheral characters...more

This is the first book of A Quilting Mystery series, a popular hobby today. It is foremost a mystery with some romance to boot. Dewey has just inherited her mother's quilting business, Quilter Paradiso. Dewey is a technie with no interest in the family business. The situation is complicated by the inexperienced Dewey now supervising her sister-in-law in a business her SIL would love to have inherited or manage. At one of the largest quilting expos, Claire Armstrong (famous to quilters) asks Dewe...more

I like the concept of this series, and I liked the writing, but the heroine is often simply TSTL. She should not investigate mysteries because she just narrowly escaped suicide-by-accidentally-explaining-everything-to-the-real-murderer, and I can't imagine she'd actually survive another murder investigation. She's not stupid generally, but she is REALLY stupid about the murder mystery.
The other problem I had is that it reminded me A LOT, situation-for-situation, of another mystery book I read ab...more

Dewey had inherited a quilt shop from her mom. She was a computer person not a quilter.
The biggest quilt show had started and one lady is killed. Then another lady is killed, all while the quilt show is going on.
Dewey must deal with her sister in law, Kym, who doesn't want to listen to anything Dewey says for the shop.
Dewey is ready to sell the shop, go back to getting her computer job.
She runs into a friend, Buster, who was with her mom when she died after being hit by a drunk driver. He is a...more

There were quite a few things that I didn't like about this book. It drove me crazy - and I almost threw the book away - the way the main character allowed people to bully her around. Her sister-in-law mostly. I prefer my heroines to have a spine, thanks. I also found the true antagonism of the Sergeant towards Dewey to be not only over-the-top, but unjustifiable and completely unbelievable. Also, less angst in my cozies please.

The things I did like: I liked the quilting background, the secondar...more

A new series for me and it was enjoyable. Dewey Pellicano inherits her mother's quilt shop and is none to happy about it. You see, she know nothing about quilting. She would rather be behind a computer monitor. At her first annual Quilt Extravaganza, where everyone she meets, remembers her mother, Dewey stumbles on a dead body.

Infused with quilting terms and fun, the story was an easy, enjoyable read.

This was a 4-star read until I got to the "sneak peek" at the 2nd book. When the author attributed the song "We Are Family" to Sly & the Family Stone, I nearly threw the book across the room! WILD GOOSE CHASE itself was a pretty good mystery and I liked Dewey, the heroine. I also liked the fact that she liked sex and that fact didn't have to glossed over!

This book was entertaining. A woman inherits a quilt shop from her mother. The shop has a booth at an extravaganza. Poor Dewey has to deal with her sister-in-law, two murders, dealing with her family, dealing with her mothers death and what to do with the shop. How does she handle it all? It wasn't the greatest story but it was very entertaining.

This book has a deeper story that is hidden behind the "fluffy quilt lady" preconceived notion. The main character, Dewey, has a lot going on and a lot to deal with. Not all of the issues are clear or straightforward at the beginning. As the story progresses, it is obvious that she is suffering from a tragic event in her recent past that her family is not discussing as well a her layoff from her high tech Silicon Valley job. I think that the underlying story of Dewey and her life are the real in...more

A "first in a series" quilting mystery book, I got this as a free downoad onto my tablet, so didn't really expect much. But it was actually quite interesting, and I would probably read another one in the series, especially since I am an avid quilter at heart.

Another murder mystery that kept me entertained for an afternoon. This was well-written and I did not immediately guess all the twists. And is it just me or does Claire remind anyone else of Martha Stewart?

An enjoyable quilting mystery that takes place at a Bay Area quilt festival, recognizable to local quilters as PIQF. Not a bad attempt at a mystery, but I prefer the characters & writing in Earlene Fowler's series. Still, I'll give her next book a try.

I read this book less than 2 weeks ago, yet I can't remember anything about the plot or the characters. I don't remember liking or disliking it, which must mean something - maybe it was ok?

A quilting themed thriller. Fun to read and reminds me why I miss quilting.
I enjoyed reading about the "nuts & Bolts" of a quilting convention having had both quilting and convention experience.

I liked this book. It's a quilting mystery. Just kind of fun since I like quilting. I'd say this is probably a pg-13 rated book, a little language and some romance. I was entertained.
Waggonerdebbie
It was a pretty fair book. I am not sure you would enjoy it all that much if you weren't a quilter. It takes place at a large quilt show and a quiting icon gets murered....

I'm a quilter and a mystery fan, and I don't object to sex when it is appropriate to the story. But there was not enough quilt and more than enough sex.

Really enjoyed this book. Took an inside look and running and operating a quilting business but murder at a show is afoot! Tickled me .. Will read more by this author.

I am an avid quilter so I liked it. It's a mystery connected to a quilt show. Not much suspense. Another Kindle download. See other reviews for more information.

What a refreshing book. The heroine is a savvy techno geek who owns a quilt shop and has sex! Wow. Love it. My hero. I am now going to look for the other books in this series.

I really liked this book. A nice fast paced mystery there was a lot of the quilting world in the storyline but the main character is new to quilting so I think you might like it even if you don't quilt. A fun mystery.

The quilting part was interesting but the "mystery" and "who-done-
it" needed developing. Too much "telling" instead of "showing" in the last chapter.
