Cassie isn’t evil… probably. She just lacks a few things: a boyfriend, a family, a soul. Convincing the “Others” she isn’t evil has never met with a lot of success. It usually starts with a local coven of concerned witches (humanity’s self-appointed protectors) making accusations and then there’s shouting, a chase, and in one case, a stabbing which turned out ...more

Isn’t It Necromantic is author C. I. Bond’s first novel and hopefully, not her last. Cassie Childe has had to live on the run, moving every two years until she settles in Seattle. She has lived there for nine months, found work in an antique store, built up a few friendships and hopes to be able to stay for awhile. Cassie is an “other”, unfortunately, she nor anyone else can figure out what kind of “other” she is. This tends to make those in the “other” community nervous, so she tries to ...more

Isn't it Necromantic? Urban Fantasy Setting: Seattle (M/F)

Cassie Childe and her mother were nomadic, always on the run, but after her mother dies, Cassie decides that she's tired of always being on the run. She wants to be able to just settle down somewhere, keep to herself, and live a peaceful and quiet life as an antique shop keeper's assistant in Seattle. And she thought she just might be able to do that…that is until a guy named Harry dies. She seeks out an oracle to ask if she should start

Isn’t it Necromantic? is the first novel from C.I Bond, and in my personal opinion a great first start for this author. Classified as an Urban Fantasy Isn’t It Necromantic? fits easily into this genre and surprisingly enough adds something new to this Genre and introduces a new “Evil” so to speak. The story takes place in Seattle Washington where we find Cassie a tough young woman who tries her to stay under the radar of the Supernatural “others” who seem to be out to get her. She is feared and ...more

Cassie's a little different than your average chick. She's got all your typical problems (no boyfriend, no family, no real motivation in life), but she's got another problem that isn't the norm: Cassie has no soul. She does, however, have an additional skill that most people don't have, which makes her very valuable to those conspiring to create (or thwart) evil. Since Cassie's not even sure what she really is and who she'd fit in with, she tries to stay low and avoid detection. Unfortunately, ...more

Recommends it for: Fans of the Sookie Stackhouse books
Recommended to Jennifer by: C.I. Bond
I was given a copy of C.I. Bond's Isn't Necromantic because the author wanted some real constructive feedback from readers.

The truth is, the plot and world Bond created reminded me a little of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels, only Bond's main character, Cassie, is a little easier to relate to. Many who have read my past reviews of Harris's novels already know I am not a big fan of the Southern Vampire Mysteries, but I did enjoy Isn't it Necromantic.

The writing was smarter, and the ch

Overall this was a decent first novel. Bond has a decent idea here & that I can't immediately guess what type of supernatural critter Cassie is supposed to be is a plus. It ruins the fun when you can immediately tell what someone is since it usually gives you a good idea of what will happen later on in the series. I have to admit that part of my desire to read the next book is because I'm pretty curious about what Cassie will end up being.

Unfortunately this tale suffers the growing pains tha

I enjoyed reading this book, it's a light, humorous, urban fantasy with some dark undertones, and a few gory parts. Well, I suppose that's what UF generally *is*, isn't it?
In the beginning I had trouble connecting with, or caring much about some of the characters, I wish the main characters had been fleshed out a little more at the start, but I found as the book went on the author's style seemed to smooth out, as if s/he had found his/her stride, and I was then able to connect and immerse myself

It was good and kept my attention. But there seemed to be a lot of questions unanswered. And it had an odd ending...
