Okay, when I went to review this book, I couldn't remember what it was about let alone whether I liked it. It was only a week or two later! Less than a month and a half after that, I decided I needed to rate it so I went through the synopsis and the reviews and the first few pages of the book. I still have absolutely no recollection of the story. That is not a good sign. I'm at the point where I'm wondering if I really even read it. That does not make for a high rating.

I'm rating it two stars b...more

In theory this book (this story line) is exactly what I should LOVE...geeky guy meets macho hot guy...but it was done so badly that I kind of hate it. Herb wasn't cute and he wasn't funny ...he was annoying and pathetic. And the fact that Chuck couldn't realize how annoying he was, was also annoying.

Oh man, don't get me started on the ''mystery'', the sub-plot of the story...it was TERRIBLE, and the author threw in this stupid sci-fi element out of NO WHERE. It left me in a perpetual state of...more

Even if one of the main characters is a police detective and the other is a biochemist involved in an international affair, Why I Love Geeks is really mostly a comedy. Herbert, a little, naïve and cute geek is the parody of everything you believe a geek should be, smart on books, but totally unprepared to real life, so much that sometime you wonder how he managed to arrive to his age without someone bursting his bubble. But as I said, he is cute, so probably people have no courage to be bad with...more

Cover - basic. Not at all how I would picture Herb, though.

MC's - Herb, a 20-something-year-old biochemist. Chuck, a NYC homicide detective. 3rd person POV alternates between them.

I think this book was supposed to be funny. Humor is so very subjective, though, and this did not hit my funny bone.

Herb was cute at first. He's a super-smart scientist (as he constantly tells us), finished a couple of PhD's at a young age, is nerdy and has no internal filters so says anything and everything that's on...more

I wanted to like this story. You have the big, manly, technophobe cop. You have the cute, twinky geek boy who saves him. You're all set up for a police procedural rom com, and then the plot takes a left turn into borderline Sci Fi territory and then later a left turn into spy fiction.

Herb (the geek) went from being cutely enthusiastically talkative to having annoying diarrhea of the mouth. He "researched" sex, but didn't know if you were locked into top/bottom roles.

There were copious editing e...more

I'm a big fan of T.A. Chase and this new story certainly didn't disappoint. It was a fun read with quirky characters who engaged you right from the start. In this story, the author threw in a bit of intrigue into the mix - which overall worked well. I truly liked Herb - the hapless scientist whose quirks were funny and really endearing. Chuck - is a no nonsense detective who wasn't the typical bad-ass cop. He's a good man with a great family - and the A...more

@20% - good christ, Herb is annoying. I hope he calms down a bit. And Chuck is getting on my nerves because he thinks Herb is cute and not annoying at all.

@53% - I'm giving up. Herb has not gotten any better. He may be a super-smart scientist, but he has the mental maturity of a 12 year old.

I guess I wont rate this one since its going on the DNF pile.

Not many authors can get away with naming one of their heroes Herbert. T.A., I think probably gets away with lots of things other writers wouldn't, including allowing said hero a severe case of verbal diarrhea, terminal naivete, and lethal adorable-ness. All this is balanced, of course, buy the other hero, who, in his own right, suffered from the definitive case of "me-Tarzan" alpha syndrome.

And yet, I still liked this book an awful lot, because it was an uncomplicated, sweet, and straightforwa...more

I read this while it was being posted as her weekly blog story, and it's one of my favorites! I love Herb and Chuck and how great they are together. I love Herb's complete lack of tact and nonstop motor mouth, and Chuck's complete lack of knowledge about technology like cell phones. It was a light, fun, sweet read and I'm glad to have the whole story to re-read and enjoy!

As for those who think the plot is ridiculous, who's to say that this book has to be set in our reality? I dunno, I guess I a...more

2.5 pushed to a 3 because I really liked the beginning.

When I started reading this I was in the mood for a light hearted romance with a geeky type of guy, and for the first few pages that’s exactly what I got. Herb was perfect as the book smart but oblivious to life kinda guy and Chuck was the perfect foil, being a strong street smart cop.

Sadly after a few chapters this book took a turn into a "Carry on" style comedy I wasn't in the mood for. The plot got more and more ridiculous and the sex wa...more

The plot wasn't horrible, but the editing was a mess. Swapped names, confusing sentence structure and many, many typos.
The sentence that made me close the book and take a break? - "Chuck is going to fucking blow a casket when he finds out we did this.”
Or how about - "Mr. Burke seems nice for a guy with average intelligent.”

This book is about socially inept scientists. For all I know, these, and many others were not editing mistakes, they were the author's choice to illuminate her character's l...more

How to describe this? Put aside all beliefs, suspend reality and you might like this. I actively tried not to take this seriously, so I can at least give it 2 stars.

(view spoiler)[I really liked Herb at first and I assumed the story would focus more on the humor of the characters' interactions. But no, the story mainly focuses on the two MC getting together and avoiding Russian/Chinese agents from getting a hold of a wonder drug.

Herb was just a chatter box with no filter whatsoever. It was cute

An enjoyable read that's sure to make the reader laugh. Yes, it has it's cliche moments, but you can't help but love Herbert. He's such a naive trusting guy, and since he has no internal monologue, some of the things he says without thinking make you laugh while completely agreeing with him. And Chuck's patience and understanding concerning his young lover shows the depths of love someone can have for another. Fun and enjoyable, I'll probably read it again on a rainy afternoon.

Strives too hard to be funny and it isn't. Herb's rambling is cute and there is some chemistry between him and Chuck but Chuck's calling Herb "little one" is paternalistic and not sexy. Added to which, the dialogue's stilted and unreal...in fact, most of the writing rings untrue, such as the cse and the jargon being used to describe it. Laughable...except not, it's just ridiculous. So, no, this one is a no go.

I love geeks and I thought this book sounded cute. Unfortunately, I felt like the author tried too hard. Have you ever seen Big Bang Theory? I felt like the author was trying to make Herbert like Sheldon from BBT but Herbert was just too clueless. Also, some police procedure stuff just didn't seem right. However, this is a light-hearted romantic comedy type book so I overlooked that stuff for the most part and just went with the author's intentions. They were good.

Now this story was really funny. Herb was such interesting and enjoyable character that he made this story unique. You simply have to love the guy. The way Chuck and Herb met was so sweet and comical, awesome start into the story. The plot was interesting and well written. Herb monologues made me laugh a lot. Truly funny and enjoyable story.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK !

T.A. Chaseの文章は好きなので、もう何冊か読んでみたいな。

OMG!! I sooo loved this book!! Never have I laughed out loud so much when reading. Herb is so endearing and clueless, you just want to hug him. He was hilarious! And Chuck was so understanding, it was easy to see them both falling for each other. They both needed the other to balance out. This one will stay with me for a while. It's a keeper!!

Initially, I thought I would be giving this a 5, but then the ludicrous plot elements intruded. The romance between the geek, Herb, and the detective, Chuck, worked for me, but the mad science and espionage didn't. I just wish the murdered Dr Fardanov was given a less absurd formula to develop. There also seems to be a continuity issue with Herb saying he has bought condoms and lube on page 97, and then again on page 129. Safe sex is good, but this might be going overboard unless the author beli...more

I was going to do a review about why I didn't care for this book but then I read Jj's review and it pretty much said it all.

Didn't connect with any characters, there were lots of inconsistencies and it just wasn't that funny for me

I've got the next in this series and I'm kinda scared to read it.

There were so many missing words, mis-used words, and contradictions in this book that I truly found it difficult to read. At the very least, I think an author should pay attention to what they are writing: to remember what they wrote a few pages previous so they don't contradict themselves.

Back in e dark ages, when I was an undegrad, I have a philosophy professor who gave me a D on a paper and the only critique own the entire thing was three words on the last page "Poor word choices." When I was reading this book that was all I could think about.

The first book I read from this author.

TA Chase teased us about Mr.Blake & Mr. McKinley on the whole book and then she introduced John Davidson's story on the last pages, so I hope we will see them again on their own stories somewhere in the future...

I read this as a blog story and I'm still going to buy the ebook when it comes out. I love Herb. There were many moments of out loud laughter during Herb's monologues. And Chuck is a sexy, sexy man. The two of them together made for some great reading.

I like this author. I will amost buy all the ew releases. Glad I did.

This was a cute story with likable characters, hot sex, and a good sloid plot.

I will look for more books with the family. The books having been set up so well in this one.

Absolutely loved this story! Herb just kills me. He's so funny. I love that Chuck just loves him. That's everything for him. He doesn't care about his lack of verbal filter or his nerdiness or anything else. Really, really loved it!

2.5 stars

The main character of this book is very, very quirky. If quirky bugs you then you will not like it at all.

I have many quirky friends and Herb somewhat reminded me of a few of them. He has absolutely no filter when it comes to talking. You know - no social communication skills at all whatsoever.

Now this alone I would not find ridiculous in a story about a geeky guy, but what is a bit over the top is the uninhibited sex talk, especially in front of others (family, co-workers, boss, etc)....more

There is beauty in every kind of love, so why not live a life without boundaries? Experiencing everything the world offers fascinates me and writing about the things that make each of us unique is how I share those insights. I live in the Midwest with a wonderful partner of thirteen years. When not writing, I’m watching movies, reading and living life to the fullest.
