When I first read The Body Finder I was struck with the feeling I had found something special, complete with the a great plot, heartwarming romance, suspense, and character development. So when I heard there would be a sequel I found myself counting the days until the release. Then (finally) I read Desires of the Dead and I must say I feel a little let down.

I stayed up all night reading The Body Finder because as much as I wanted to put it down and get some rest for work in the morning, it woul...more

Romance and Murder - two great things that go together like peanut butter and chocolate.

Okay, so maybe these two things shouldn't really go together. But it sure makes for the kind of story that I would want to read.

Three point triple six stars. You do the mental math. I'm sort of freaked out to actually type the number. Yes, I am that chicken.

For those who aren't aware of what this series is about, it revolves around a girl named Violet who can sense dead bodies and the people who are respon...more

Desires of the Dead starts off soon after the first book, and all seems to be right in the world for Violet and her best friend-turned boyfriend, Jay. That is till Violet's ability to sense the echo's of death begin to call again. This time it brings Violet to a little boy trapped in a cargo hold and soon enough the FBI start getting involved, which is only the beginning of Violets problems.

Written just like the first book we get the pov's in both Violet, and this time instead of the...more

My review can also be found on my blog Collections.

Desires of the Dead starts off a few months after The Body Finder. Everything seems to have pretty much returned to normal for Violet after the incident during the Homecoming dance. Things change, though, when she discovers the body of a young boy stashed in a cargo ship container in Seattle. Violet is later contacted by the FBI, who want to know exactly how she managed to locate the body. This is when Violet's problems begin.

It's hard not to co...more

This was an amazing sequel. It was what I hoped it would be--complete with the awesomeness that is the Jay and Violet love story. It was filled with new characters, new scenarios, new drama, new challenges. If you liked TBF then you will not be disappointed!

Wow - as good as the first! Better!! Hope the series never ends. Love the direction it's going.

I am having a hard time writing a review for this novel. It was every bit as good as The Bodyfinder. All the same characters were there, but the focus was more on the kids this time than the parents. Chelsea had more "face time" so we got to learn more about her. Jay and Violet's relationship continued with some major hiccups. I'd say Jay showed some character growth, showing some more vulnerability where it comes to Violet, and maturity at not forcing things out of her before she's ready to tal...more

Oh, how I swooned over The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting. That book grabbed me right from the first page, and made me fall completely and utterly in total book love. Then there was Jay, who I also fell completely and utterly in love with. Oh, swoon! If you are a regular reader of this blog, or if you follow me on twitter, you will know that I literally never stop talking about Jay Hea...more

Well, I'm on a roll. This is the third book in a row that I have read this week in a matter of days. I'm very pleased by this. Completely.

That said... I read Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting. This is the sequel to this year's The Body Finder. Wow. Derting does it again. These books make me so happy, and desperate for a sequel... which means I now have to wait until Spring(ish?) 2012. Whinge!!!

Anywho, intelligent review... yes! Yes, I can do that.

My Thoughts: Once again we are back with Violet and her hectic abilities. Remember, from The Body Finder we found out she can hear echoes from dead people, the ones who died; murdered. It isn't just people she can hear, she can also hear animals. She can also sense the people who committed the crime since the imprint attaches to them. Creepy? Yes! Useful? Sometimes! Violet is trying to adjust to life just being herself and spending time with Jay. She was always so used to having him as her best...more

While The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting ended on what seemed to be a final note, there is more to Violet’s story as we see in Desires Of The Dead, and in 2012, The Last Echo. Y’all Desires Of The Dead is action packed from the beginning. From a mysterious, foreshadowy prologue to new students at school, and Violet finding a body in Seattle which results in the FBI all up in her grill, the girl has a LOT to handle.

If you read my review of The Body Finder then you know I loved that and was so excited when I was able to get my hands on the second book in this series. While you are pretty much able to predict what happens in this sequel it was still a wonderful book that I could not put down. Violet is pulled into another mystery as she tries to figure out who is stalking her and leaving her ominous messages while also trying to adjust to going from best friends with Jay to boyfriend/girlfriend with him.

4.5 Stars Love, love, love, love, lovely love love love. I'm going Two and a half Men here, so bare with me, guys.

As usual, unsurprisingly, as expected, I loved this book. This series is one of the few paranormal ones that a) actually makes sense and b) does not make me want to stab the main character(s) with blunt katana swords. Thank you, Mrs. Derting, for a series that does not make me want to dust off my pitchfork in my closet. Thank you very much.

I really enjoyed The Body Finder and couldn't wait any longer to read the next book in the series. Everything that I loved about the first book (the suspense, the chemistry between Violet and Jay, the mystery) was here plus a few heartbreaking moments for me, but great additions to the storyline. I understand why Violet was hurt by something Jay did, but wished she didn't act so hasty. She really scared me for a while there since I've been rooting for them from the start.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

Okay, I love Kimberly Derting and I'm really crazy about the Body Finder but for some reason, this sequel just wasn't as good as the first in the series. I hate to admit it but a lot of times when writers write a series, whether they are debut authors or have been writing for a long time, the second book isn't as good at the first. Sometimes, it just lacks the right substance or the first book is just so good that its impossible to top by its successor. In this case, it was the characters.

2 1/2 stars. Not as good as The Body Finder. There were a couple of edge of your seat moments, but most of the time I felt like Violet was an idiot. She suddenly feels as though she can't talk to anyone and starts hiding everything, and the reasoning behind it is just flimsy to me. Truth be told, The Body Finder was a great stand alone book and I sort of wished it had stayed that way. I thought the romance between Violet and Jay in the Body Finder was sweet, the way they realized that they felt...more

BEFORE READING:

Okay so I'm really looking forward to reading it. It's been a while since I read the Boy Body Finder, so I can't really make adequate predictions. But I absolutely LOVED the first one, so this should be a Fantastic followup. I love the cover soooo preeettttyyy. Erm. I wonder what is going to happen between Vi and Jay. They seem so happy and in love, whatever in the world could come between them? Whoa, isn't that such a captivating title! It just pulls you in! Again, pretty cover....more

Holy cow! Desires of the Dead is one of the best sequels I've read in a really long time. I forgot how amazing Kimberly's writing is. I'm literally at a lost for words.

Wow. Just...wow!

What I love about Desires of the Dead is how Kimberly write's from Violet's point of view, but switches every now and then to "the bad guy's" POV. This is what originally hooked me on The Body Finder. It's dark, it's twisted, it's made of win!

The book picked up where the last one left off. We meet some new characters, and we get to know some of the existing characters better. Violet and Jay continue to figure out being boyfriend and girlfriend as well as best friends. Violet is also still trying to figure out how to deal with her ability to see echoes of people whose lives were cut short. And she also sees the echoes of the person who cut that life short.

So, I really enjoyed reading The Body Finder. I didn't enjoy reading this one as...more

Violet can hear the echoes left behind when someone dies a violent death. When she phones in a tip about a body, she comes to the attention of the FBI. Violet is reluctant to trust anyone with her secret, especially a government organization. At the same time her relationship with Jay, best friend turned boyfriend, has gotten complicated. She doesn’t feel like she can talk to him like she used to, especially since he has been spending more time with a new kid in school, Mike. Mike has secrets in...more

I'm still not entirely convinced of what the flowers on the front cover means as I am in two minds about the Blue flower on the first book as the main girl's name is Violet and we all know the saying "Violets are Blue". In Book #2 we read as Violet is still being haunted by nightmares of the incident in the first novel where we witnessed Violet's best friend Jay almost getting killed and shot if it hadn't been for Violet's Police Chief uncle Stephen. Now ready for a new year at school and ready...more

I will begin by saying that this book is not as good as the first one. The first one had suspense, strong characters, and an interesting romance. Unfortunately, the sequel fell short of my expectations.

Plot: 5 stars

Violet as a main character: 1 star

Romantic developments: 2 stars

Supporting characters: 4 stars

I'm not a strong romance reader, but I do enjoy a well-written romance from time to time. This is why I found The Body Finder so compelling. Despite all the teenage cutsy stuff I enjoyed the romance that developed between Violet and Jay, as well as the storyline behind the mystery. I was looking forward to the sequel, because this relationship seemed worth following.

I was so disappointed in the regressive character development displayed by Violet in this second entry. Actually, that's a lie. In...more

Desire of the Dead was a great sequel to The Body Finder. While the first book mostly focus on Jay and Violet’s growing relationship, Desire of the Dead explore more of Violet’s ability and how other people (other than Jay and her family) finds about her ability.

In this book, we are introduced to several new characters. The most interesting characters for me were FBI agent Sara Priest and her co-worker, Rafe. Anything that involves the FBI usually means trouble so when Sara Priest starts to que...more

In Desires of the Dead, Jay and Violet are very wrapped up in each other and in their new relationship. Very. Let's just say if you love the steamy stuff, you'll be very happy with this one. Violet also just wants to be a normal high school girl with a new boyfriend. But of course, the "echoes" of the dead she hears won't leave her alone. She needs to learn more about her special talent and how to use it.

Things between the happy couple are complicated by some new kids in town: cool guy Mike and...more

I finished with The Body Finder yesterday and was looking forward to a very thrilling and compelling sequel. This book was thrilling, alright - but compelling? NO. A huge, big no. It begins at very romantic note and soon the suspense and adventure begins to mount...but somewhere in the middle all that is left is Violet and her stupid, insecure, incomprehensible feelings. I had to literally will myself to read further and not leave the book half-read. The pig-headedness of her character irritated...more

Though I can safely say I loved this book, I wasn't quite as fond of it was I was the first in the series. Kimberly Derting's writing is mesmerizing, it's true, but there was something about Desires Of The Dead that felt a bit off. I'm not sure whether or not I'm picking because I adored The Body Finder so much, but I just didn't enjoy this book quite as much. Nevertheless, it was still a great book and I'm extremely excited to see what Violet gets up to in the next installment.

"Ancora un respiro" è il secondo romanzo della serie young adult "The Body Finder" di Kimberly Derting, pubblicato dalla Casa Editrice Mondadori nella collana Chrysalide, lo scorso 19 giugno.

“You're such a girl," she chided, but somehow the words came out too soft...too tender, and ended up sounding like a compliment.
Jay just laughed. "So what does that make you, the guy?" He squeezed her hand even tighter, keeping it buried in his.
"Or some sort of lesbian," she teased, raising one eyebrow. "Maybe we should try out a little girl-on-girl action."
"Nice, Violet. Do you kiss your mom with that mouth?" His eyes glinted as he watched her.
She leaned closer to him in the darkness of the car's interior. "No, but I'll kiss you with it.”
