The book started out with Splat dreaming of candy fish. He tries to get them and that is about the time his mom wakes him up. Splat is told to go take a bath and cleanup for school, and after he got caught trying to skip the bath, his mom makes him get in the tub. This is where we first find out Splat doesn’t like the water, he in fact is afraid of it. While in the bath, Splat’s mom shocks him with the announcement that today he is going to learn to swim at school. Before Splat could react to th...more
Splat doesn’t like Spike—he eats all his candy fish and plays with his toys until they break—and he also doesn’t like water—it’s scary, wet and makes him soggy. Splat is not happy when he has to have a play date with Spike and learn to swim on the same day. However, things turns out to the better when Splat and Spike bond over their fear of water and learn to get over it together and eventually become friends. The illustrations are made in mixed media. They are quirky and fun and match the humou...more
I've never been a huge fan of Splat the Cat, but our girls love these books. The cat is adorable and the stories have some innocent charm, but I was frustrated by the seemingly vapid churning out of books in order to capitalize on a popular character. There have been eight books published in the last year or so and many of them weren't even written by Rob Scotton. I was not impressed.
But when we borrowed this book from the library, I was pleasantly surprised to see Mr. Scotton as the true author...more

Splat's day from the beginning was not turning out good. From having a bath, as he hates water to a play date after school with Spike who teases him and does everything better than him. Splat's day gets worse when he is told he will have to go swimming. Everyone else goes into the pool one by one but Spike and Splat are left. Spike keeps making excuses to why he hasn't gone into the pool yet. Splat finally admits he hates water and he is scared and finally Spike admits he is just as scared. Howe...more
Splat the Cat is one of my all-time favorite characters. He is a character that so many children (kindergarteners) can relate to. In this particular book, he is afraid to go swimming in the pool because he does not like water. All of his "daily routine activities" reminds me so much of what my students do on a regular basis. Also, his friend Spike does so many things to bother him; but, everything works out at the end of the book just like it does as a 5-6 year old's day!
Cats don't like water, so when Splat has to take a bath AND a swimming lesson on the same day, it's all to much.plus he has to deal with Spike, who eats all his candy mice and breaks his toys. It's a rough day for Splat. It's all down hill when he realizes that he forgot his swim trunks as well. What else can go eps tong?
Spike is in his swim class....that's what! See what else happens in this funny fuzzy book about Splat the cat, by Rob Scotton who never fails to amuse!

"Water is horrible. It's scary and wet and makes me soggy."
The day is not looking promising for Splat. First, he has to take a bath. Then his mom informs him that Spike is coming over after school, which is bad enough, because Spike breaks his toys and makes fun of him. Then Spike finds out that they are doing swimming lessons at school. Even worse.
I love books in the Splat series, and kids do too. Very cute book with a positive message!

Rob Scotton, please marry me.
This was a book about my little buddy Splat, who does not want to go to swimming lessons (since he's a cat) and he does not want Spike to come over (because he's a bully).
I love the illustrations in these books so much. They are so expressive and detailed, and the kids love looking at them without me prompting them. The writing is fantastic too.
I hope there are a million more Splat books!!

I can't help it ... I like Splat. His name is fun to say.
So is Mrs. Wimpydimple's.
In this one Splat and Spike find out they have something unexpected in common ... something I'm sure quite a few kids have also experienced.
If you go to B&N's online storytime Molly Ringwald will read it to you. She did pretty well with some of the "s" alliteration.

I read "Splish Splash Splat" by Rob Scotton. This book was the definition of a children's book. It was a very easy and fast read. Starting out Splat did not like water. He thought it was horrible and unnecessary. By the end of the book he loves water. If you want to know how a cat went from hating water to loving it, you will have to read the journey Spat goes on. I would recommend this book to any age group it’s a silly and fun read.
I loved this book about Splat the Cat! Splat is not a fan of water. It is wet and makes him soggy. When his mom announces that his Cat Class is going to be going swimming, Splat is not happy. Splat soon finds out that he's not alone in his dislike for water and it's from someone he never expected. This is my favorite Splat book by far!
I bought this for the student I'm working with for my practice Reading Specialist testing. I needed a picture story book that satisfied some requirements, so I decided on this one and gave it to him when we were done. It's really cute and he ended up giggling at the end. I love the pictures and the facial expressions the cats make.
My first Splat book, and not at all what I expected. Story at the beginning: this is rather cute. Story by the end: that was too "cutesy" for my taste. It was good enough for three stars, but even my seven-year old was bored by the middle of it. He walked away. It leaves me wondering if I'll try any other Splat books.

Splat the Cat is back! This time it's time to learn how to swim. The only thing Splat has to say about swimming is "water is scary...and wet! And it makes us soggy!"
But with the help of friends, he finds that swimming is not all that bad.
Always a favorite for storytime.

Things Splat doesn't like:
~Spike (who breaks his toys and eats all the candy fish)
~Water (Baths are horrible! How will he survive swimming lessons?)
Splat's dislikes come together in the swimming pool. It turns out that Splat does like Spike and swimming.
What I thought: Cute! I haven't read any of the other Splat books, but I will be. He's a great character. This would actually pair well with Rock 'n' Roll Mole as both Mole and Splat dislike or fear something. The illustrations are bright and col...more

Fun, C loves Splat and I love the image of Splat trying to stay out of the tub.
