5+ stars – Historical/Regency Romance

WOW! I loved this, especially devilishly charismatic rake, the Marquis of St. Aubyn. Saint is a deliciously debauched scoundrel who glories in his depraved ways and pursuits, but he meets his match in caring, headstrong Evelyn. She’s determined to save the Heart of Hope Orphanage and teach Saint a lesson in compassion in the process; even if it means engaging him in a provocative battle of wills and indulging in his dangerous game of seduction....more

This one is my second favorite of the series, with England's perfect hero being my #1.

What I liked:
Saint was reported to be a rake and actually acted as one. That unfortunately, is not always the case with romances. He was the head of the orphanage's board that Emma wanted to involve herself with and he actually used his advantage to get Emma in his bed. That is not as bad as it seems, since Emma was far from unwilling:) And he not only blackmailed her: he coaxed and seduced a...more

Evelyn Ruddick is a social butterfly and enjoys nothing more than having a great time with her friends in London's society. Her brother, Victor (the villan of our story), takes advantage of Evie's popularity and charm by using her for his political aspirations. He cares nothing for her opinions, nor does Evie's mother, and they pay very little attention to her unless there is an ulterior motive involved.

One day Evelyn passes the Heart of Hope Orphanage on her way to a political tea a...more

5 stars.

What can I say... Delicious, gruff, rakish hero? Check. Smart, intelligent, darling heroine? Check. Interesting and engaging plot? Check.

I was almost worried by Saint's character at the beginning of the book - and I've never thought that about a hero before - I wondered how on earth shy Evelyn was going to break through his aloof and devastating arrogance. I shouldn't have been worried at all because our little Evie managed just fine!

I really, really g...more

I read this book, based on someone's recommendation and my first by this author, without knowing it was the 2nd in a series. What a nice surprise it turned out to be! It had some of the best sexual tension, hot sexual encounters, and sweetest romance I've read in a historical in a long time. The formula is pretty basic: rakish, devilishly handsome hero who works at making people dislike him, and a beautiful, but serious, intelligent and benevolent heroine whose brother insists or her making ...more

5.00 Stars – Regency/Historical Romance!

Evelyn Marie Ruddick’s elder brother Victor wants to secure his political career and henceforth feels free to use her in his endeavors of pursuing and charming various political inclinations.

She reluctantly follows her brother’s lead in these actions but wishes to work on her charitable yearnings alongside. She decides to aid her efforts in reforming the Heart of Hope Orphanage when suddenly she encounters the Marquis of St. Aubyn,

A surprisingly well executed book. The premise is a little feeble, but the devil's always in the details in HR. The hero verges on the fucker side of the rake scale, and let's not kid ourselves, that's always hot. The heroine's the sort to chain a man to a wall and rub herself all over him, and let's not kid ourselves, that's even hotter. So top marks for character development and all.

The pacing is really good. Really, really good. Hero boy doesn't melt twenty pages in for love...more

Now here’s a bad boy hero that any reader who likes the bad boy hero will love! The Marquis of St Aubyn spits out these verbal jabs to male and female alike and doesn’t care who he offends and it’s like this nearly to the end of the book! Finally a historical that doesn’t use filler details to build tension and add pages to a story. A solid 90% of this book is about the Marquis and Evelyn Ruddick, the woman set on showing him the “error of his ways” –and what a fine series of lessons it all tu...more

London's Perfect Scoundrel is the second installment in Suzanne Enoch's trilogy titled Lessons in Love. I did something with this trilogy that I rarely do...I read out of order. After reading the first book The Rake, I was anxious to read Robert and Lucinda's story in England's Perfect Hero. Who knew that the book that I skipped in the series would turn out to be my favorite!

I enjoyed every single page of London's Perfect Scoundrel. St. Aubyn was the "perfect scoundrel" in ...more

Very good romance. The interplay between the hero and the heroine was especially well done.
Saint is determined to seduce Evie, and he does not try to hide it. But what I really liked is that Evie always had the option of walking away. Her commitment to the orphanage was deep-felt and a compelling reason for her to keep interacting with Saint, but she was in no way dependent on anything he gave her. It was her choice all the way to engage with him.
This was absolutely delightful. This...more

This was a pretty good book by itself (although the first and third in the series are definitely the best). The heroine (Evie) is looking to volunteer her services at an orphanage. Except that obstinate males get in the way of course - first is her brother, who as a political candidate does not believe in revolutionary reforms a la 'education of the poor' and would rather have her flirting with politicians to land him sufficient votes. The second is the dastardly St. Auryn (Saint), who despite b...more

Michael Halboro, Marquis of St. Aubyn, is not only a scoundrel but a lonely one at that. Poor guy has no friends or family! He's rich, handsome and intelligent but is the social pariah of London due to his wicked ways. He'll bed a married woman without a second thought so he is shunned by his male peers. He has no patience for simpering virgins so that leaves most of the single women out. And although he holds a seat in Parliment and sits on a few Boards, he is forever late, detached and sh...more

This is the second book in the “Lessons in Love” series starring the enchantingly lovely Evelyn Ruddick, or Evie. After Georgiana marries Viscount Dare, its Evie’s turn to transform her pupil, and teach him how a proper lady ought to be treated. Once Evie discovers the notorious/scandalous Marquis of St. Aubyn, better known as “Saint”, is indeed the benefactor of the Heart of Hope orphanage she’s interested in patronizing, she sets her sights on “teaching” him. Saint agrees to hear Evie’s plan f...more

The second book of the series of the "Lessons in love". I don't know what I felt from this book. There are times I am excited and times that I don't what to finish the book. The first chapters is good, exciting what will happen to h/h. When the story progress thou, it became frustrating because the hero is changing and then heroine very reluctant about the changed. It is kind of annoying what the heroine really wanted from the hero. As it goes, it become boring that I wanted to go th...more

Great second book in the Lessons in Love series. I loved Saint, he was a true rake! This was not quite as good as the first book, The Rake. But still, it was sigh worthy :)

Evelyn Ruddick knows she must help the children of Heart of Hope Orphanage, but in order to get the orphanage off it’s feet she must go toe to toe with the Orphanage’s chairman London's most talked about rake "Saint" the Marquis of St. Aubyn. Saint sees Evelyn as another busybody, and with a little luck he’ll have her in his bed and out of the orphanage in no time, that is until he’s in for his own lesson in love by Evelyn herself

Finally, a Han Solo scoundrel instead of another Luke Skwalker crybaby my recent reads have inflicted on me ("But I was gonna go to the Toshee station to pick up some power converters! *whines*"). Yes, I like him because he's a scoundrel. (There's a nice play on that line in the book too. Right on!)

I believed the unthawing of Saint's heart. Evie's determination to bring out the good did not ignore the other sides. His cynicism versus her giving a shit. I'm sick and tired of...more

I don't know why I keep reading this author, I can't make it from front to back of any of them but they are amusing if you jump around. I really wish i could have given this two and a half stars but I rounded up.

Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, more than I usually grant in this genre. This book is somewhat silly, a little racy, but a lot sweet. I genuinely liked the main characters and really enjoyed the hero's gradual change from bona fide scoundrel to upstanding gentleman. The book had some real "swoop" moments--that woozy, swoony, roller coaster-in-the-tummy sensation--which seem to be missing from a lot of romance novels nowadays. Maybe it's because the hero actually was a rake, with no re...more

I happened to start reading this right before an exam, yet I couldn't put it down, until my better judgment kicked in every now and then. I absolutely loved this book. The Rakish hero, Saint, was done to near perfection. It was a little sad that he didn't have friends though. I still really liked him. Evie was adorable. yes, she did cry every now and then and most of the time, she had no backbone against her family, but she's actually really easy to identify with and they just make a great coupl...more

Once I picked this book up, I couldn't put it down! Evie is tired of attending parties and political teas for the sole purpose of furthering her brother's political career. She wants to do something meaningful with her life that will actually help those less fortunate. She wants to make a difference. Enter the Heart of Hope orphanage. London’s Perfect Scoundrel is the second book in Enoch’s Lessons in Love series. I haven’t been reading this series in order. I read the third book before this one, but they can be read as stand-alones, as each book concentrates on a different couple.

Speaking of historical romance, one thing that I am generally annoyed with is when the pure and decent heroine surrenders to the main protagonist almost without any resistance. This bothers me in this novel, too. I did not like Evie very...more

There are some books that I've enjoyed so much that I've read and reread them again and again through the years. This is one of them.

It's not a perfect book by any means. Indeed, the ending is way too rushed and I longed for Evie to stand up for herself against her family, but it has a magic that makes me love it regardless.

There are a lot of rakes running around historical romance, but even after reading widely in the genre, Saint still sticks out in my mind. He is ...more

I picked this up because Julia Quinn was raving about it, and I generally share her tastes, plus so many on here were raving about it as well. It's an extremely cute premise, but I think it just wasn't what I was in the mood for. I also think that I have evolved to the point that I only really want to read novels with very clear one-POV per scene structure with very few exceptions. There was just a bit too much head hopping for me to enjoy the story.

Evie Ruddick wants to help the Heart of Hope Orphanage. Meanwhile, her brother Victor has returned from India and wants to be elected to the House of Commons. He wants Evie to speak to Lady Gladstone about sponsoring his aspirations. Lady Gladstone is having an affair with Michael Halbor, "Saint," Marquis of St. Aubyn. "Saint" is on the board of governors for the orphanage. All their lives are intertwined in an interesting Regency romance.

Just OK. Finished well, but had a hard time believing so much of this story. I liked that the H/h were an unlikely couple, but how they kept crossing paths pushed my limits of believability. Also, the heroine kept saying she wanted to protect her (and her families) reputation and respectability, but her actions constantly said otherwise. The audiobook voice was also hard to listen to, so I'd recommend reading it before listening to it.
Edna Lyn
I enjoyed this book a lot. The hero was very cynical and jaded but the character development once Evie stepped in was great. The sexual tension between the two was hot, mostly Saint being anything but one...whispering things in her ear or having a little alone time in the theater; I just loved it.

Robert Carroway, a very interesting secondary character from book 1, will have his story next and I can't wait to read it.
