I loved this book. It started out in Mexico, near the border. After Grace's parents died, her grandmother sold her to a family in the states. Trying to find her way, Grace's experiences with people taught her how to accept and love everybody. She even had to learn to trust those she'd previously looked down on. I loved this book. The writing was skillful, sensitive, and beautiful…a carefully edited yet emotionally unrestrained literary novel. The cover illustration by Alfredo Arreguin ("Nuestra Señora de la poesia" 1994)--well, it is one of my favorite book covers ever (and I'm an illustrator, so I can just drool openly).

This is a very good "light" read with a deep message of acceptance and forgiveness. Luv the peacock scene. I will return to this book for a 2nd go in the future. I am ready to read Lucrecia's book of short stories now.
