This is the third and last book in the Mayfair witches series. I read it back in high school too.

In the third chronicle of the Mayfair Witches, the Talamasca seek to preserve the nearly extinct Taltos race by bringing together a male and female. Their searching catches the attention of an ancient Taltos named Ashlar entwined with Lasher's identity. Ashlar reveals the taltos mythology and lineage and enlists the help of Michael and Rowan in his battle againsst evil. Ashlar longs to make ...more

This is the last volume of the trilogy on the Myfair witches, that starts with "The Witching Hour". This book is not as good as the first volume, but it's nevertheless fascinating and you definitely won't be tempted to abandon this book in the middle.
The main character here is Mr. Ash, who is the last Taltos alve, or so it seems. This fascinating, misterious creature's life will become intertwinned with that of the current designee of the Mayfair family legacy in and odd way, and des...more

I've been a big fan of Anne Rice's novels since I was young. I remember using this book as the subject for a Book Report I wrote in College. My professor loved it so much, that I never got it back. She said she would use it as the template, "THE example" to show to the rest of her students. Yes, it was a good and a bad thing altogether. And I even drew the cover page for that! ....I don't draw. I can't even draw respectable-looking stick figures. It's terrible. But somehow fo...more

As the ending of the Mayfair witches trilogy, I found Taltos to be very anti-climactic. It seemed like a lot of back story for the other two books although a couple of interesting new characters were introduced. I'll probably read Blackwood Farm again after this since it has a lot of the same characters in it and takes place after the trilogy. The first time I read it, I hadn't read these other three so their stories did not make as much sense. So at least I know all the history of the family an...more

I listened to this book, (thankfully abridged), on CD as read by Tim Curry. Despite his heroic acting efforts to make this story anything but ludicrous, his reading actually emphasizes how idiotic the story and the dialogue are. It was worth a good chuckle for a disc or two, but ultimately, I found myself fast-forwarding to the laughable ending.

I would recommend reading the later vampire novels, the ones after Queen of the Damned, or her books about Jesus' early life, instead.

Ms Rice is one of those writers who has a true gift for creating mental pictures for the reader. I've traveled the streets of New Orleans so many times with this lady's words as a guide. She so captures my imagination that I can smell the fragrances and hear the sounds, both of course prior to Katrina. My one real trip to the city couldn't hold a candle to the city I saw in her mental images. Read her, and you'll also see.

It was a good end to the series. Left a lot of room for another one even though there isn't one in the Mayfair Witch Series. For those of you who have read this or are planning on reading these and wondering where the rest of the story is: it is concluded in The Vampire Chronicles, oddly enough. You can find the ending to the story of the Taltos in the novel Blood Canticle.

As the third book in the trilogy of the Mayfair Witches I thought this book was a little slow to start. It took 3 chapters to get entwined but once I was I couldn't put it down. I love how Anne Rice uses periods of years and century's to tell her tales. I loved the history and the expanse of time. This book brings it all together and has some great twists. I loved it.

I read this in hopes that maybe I'd get more interested in the lives of the Mayfair witches, but this one was even less compelling to me than Lasher. I found the characters once again stale and not likeable, which made it hard to sympthaze with their plights. Read it if you like the Mayfair series, skip it if not.

This was the best in the mayfaire series books. She started the mayfaire side series with Witching Hour, a good read, but no where near the caliber of Taltos, but a must, considering that it sets it up. Lasher is the other book in their side trilogy, and it's also good, but, Taltos had won my heart from the beginning.

Again, if you've read "The Witching Hour" or "Lasher" and lived through the sheer volume of those books, then you might as well give "Taltos" a chance. It gives the whole "Witch Chronicles" a beginning and an end. It's "softer" than Taltos if that makes any sense. Good for reading on a beach/plane/train, etc.

This is the third book of the Witch series. Rice's imgination is evident in the book - a surprising read, not what I expected. After reading about this family for so long, you feel connected to these characters, they are so detailed. I loved all 3 of these books, and tend to read the series each year.

I loved Witching Hour, but after that book this series just fell apart. Lasher was s struggle to finish, Taltos was even worse. I could care about the human characters, like Michael, in Witching Hour, the characters in the other tw titles are just shadow figures enmeshed in their own unrealistic world.

This was such an amazing conclusion to the series. Unlike the vampire chronicles she sews it up nice and tight. One of the best side notes to this book is the cross pollination of a very significant character from the vampire chronicles, brilliant, sexy and frightening. A good read to me.

I feel like I've spent so much time reading this trilogy, and I can't really say I'm happy with the way it all ended. As much as I love Rice's flair for details, I found myself scanning over several pages just to get to the point. And the ending... I just can't get over it, I wanted closure!

this book wasn't really as great as the first two in the Mayfair Witch series. I think she could have left it at two. The third one just seemed to drag the story out too long. It was okay, and if you read the witch books you probably should read all three, but it's not as great.

The supernatural and illicit sex were much more seductive when I was in high school. I believe this was the only Anne Rice book I ever read and it probably will remain the only one. If this is even the one I read, I have trouble telling them apart.

This is one of those stories you would expect to see on the sci-fi channel. It's really out there. I liked it though. I don't think it's for everyone, and it's definitely not like her other books even though its the sequel to Blackwood Farm.

This (supposed) conclusion to the Mayfair Witches series was really good. Unfortunately, the characters continue and seep into the Vampire Chronicles... Good thing I decided to read all of Rice's books in order of publication!
