This book was a delightful surprise. It was just what I was looking for on a topic that I am very interested in, Fear. Often I have thought that all human emotions and feelings could be boiled down to twp basic forces fear and love. This has always been an elusive and easily misunderstood topic for me. Fear is a shadow that is always present but rarely noticed. My interest in this subject stemmed from the idea that fear may be the opposite of love. This intrigued me because I thought the two cou...more
I always did ask myself why 50 Cent ventured into other areas than his music, because I found his music had message-it was not only about parties and the hot girls, and the fights-it was about being able to rise above any bad situation.
So, when I got a hold of the 50th Law-I realized that I have always been wrong in my view of musicians-and with someone as brilliant and observant as 50 Cent-then there exists other sides to him. He has the Vitamin water, G-Unit books and much more, but now I am h...more

Accepting your own mortality. What prevents us from doing what we really want to do is fear. Fear of failure, fear we won't be accepted, fear of death. When we accept the fact that one day we will die, we are empowered. Most of us don't touch death daily so when we experience a death in our lives it rattles us. Just say this out loud and notice how you feel, "I will die." If we think about it, confront it, and accept mortality we are liberated, energized, and empowered to live life.

Another Robert Greene book down. He's currently my favorite non-fiction author of the moment.
This one I have mixed feelings on. The content is ultimately good, but I'm a little disappointed that he teamed up with rapper Fifty Cent for this. While the advice and analysis is still deep and useful, it feels like Greene is pandering to Fifty Cent's patently immoral and irrational lifestyle, giving him more credit than he deserves for his accomplishments. Curtis James Jackson III, more commonly known as 50 Cent, was a struggling rapper growing up in Southside Queens. His mother was a drug dealer and was murdered when he was eight years old. A few years later, 50 starts selling cocaine to his aunts and uncles. This leads to 50 being out on the streets all day and all night selling drugs. When he was in high school, 50 gets arrested for selling drugs and is sent to a court-mandated drug rehabilitation program for twenty-two months. After this, 50 t...more
The 50th Law is as much about the hip-hop artist 50 Cent as the movie “Titanic” is about the “The Heart of the Ocean” diamond. If you are a picking up this hefty tome as a fan of “fitty” you are to be disappointed as he appears as author only with brief chapter intros written in a seemingly unauthentic style and as subject only in the well-trod stories of his relatively short life (in a nutshell; he sold crack, got shot for it, was signed to Eminem’s Shady records and later to a number of endors...more
I really liked this book. I was amazed by 50 cent's story. He has had to face more challenges than most of us, and yet he has risen above his circumstances. He is hard-working, tenacious, goal-oriented, driven, and fearless. By the end of the book I had a lot of respect for him.
I like 50 cent's philosophy. He believes in self-reliance. When you work for others, they own your work and they own you. They crush your creative spirit. What keeps you there is the fear of having to sink or swim on you...more

Never thought I’d read a book by the man who penned the song ‘Candy Shop’, but alas, this is what my life has regrettably come to. (Kidding.)
I wasn’t sure what to expect from The 50th Law. Initially I thought it was going to be a gimmicky driven book endorsed by yet another celebrity out to turn a buck. I was wrong. And taken aback.

This is no contrived marketing attempted. It’s not a motivational book full of fairy dust promoting wishful thinking. What it is is a reality check. Fif’s philosophy...more
This books entire philosophy is centred around the idea of fearlessness. This book (when applied) will ingrain you with the spirit of a bold fearless person and shift you into a new paradigm one where you learn to turn your negatives into prosperities and are not afraid to be yourself (and explains why you should be) which is ultimately attractive and something society conditions you against. It pushes you to be genuine and escape your comfort zones. Even if that is just walking up to a hot girl...more
If you haven't already read Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power, then definitely pick this book up. It's a self-help book disguised as an autobiography of 50 Cent.
If I had to pick 2 books that belong in every library in America, then it'd be Ramit Sethi's "I Will Teach You to be Rich" and The 50th Law.

Normally, I would not have read this book, but I picked it up for a friend who is a huge fan of 50 cent. Soooo, I decided to give it a try.
I found it to be the most repetitious book I have ever read in my entire life! The same story is repeated over and over and over again! If I thought it was worth my time, I would count the number of times the story of his shooting and being dropped by his record label is repeated. Also, we are told over and over again how his name used to be Curtis and is now...more

I refuse to believe that 50 Cent was that much of a critical thinker to pull off planned strategies. I think he instinctively navigated the streets based on his personal ambitions and a strong willingness/paranoia to survive the hustle. His success in itself is a great feat of accomplishment retold by Robert Greene in an awesome strategic and philosophical manual on how a smart young inner city kid can play the game of life in his 'hood and come out a winner.

I am a big fan of Robert Greene's work and was hoping for a bit more on this one. There were some really great gems in it and is overall a very worthwhile read of illustrating how 50 Cent was able to rise above and change his life for the better.
Unfortunately, all too often the stories from 50's life were repeated rather then different ones utilized. I understand that those would apply in various contexts and applications but I feel it could of been perhaps repacked better so that you don't rev...more

Robert Greene is a friend, but also someone I am a fan of as well. This is a book that he put together with 50 Cent, regarding the role one has to play to obtain a sense of success - which of course can be financial but as well as success on an everyday level.
Although this book is sort of a re-mix of Robert's "48 Laws of Power" it is a little bit more, because one of the focus points is the life and times of rapper 50 Cent. Who in turn is a fascinating figure, in that he knew by instinct how to...more

I know I'm probably biased because of my ties to the author, but reading this book has helped me immeasurably in my life since I started to read it. The ideas are simple and yet profound, and they work almost subconsciously to produce productive ways of thinking that can help you to get rid of bad habits such as self-pity and living in a fantasy world. It lays out the principles of fear in such a clear way that one can see instantly how one's attitudes hold one back in life, and it's also entert...more
Eh, was hoping for some of that profound/inspiring/give you new swagger writing, but got a rehash of the broader points of The Prince with only sketches about 50 himself that seemed to be suspiciously tailored to whatever topic was at hand. I am not saying the stories aren't true, they just had the waist let out a little here and the sleeves shortened there etc. With that said, a healthy dose of fear about fear can't really hurt, unless you are considering jumping your bicycle over a gorge or so...more
I will say that the book seems to have been written for a masculine audience. Not many women are even mentioned in the various anecdotes. This book would be good for a man that wishes to be more dominant in his life.

I loved The 48 Laws Of Power and this book, essentially ten additional laws patterned after rapper/businessman 50 Cent, is more an addendum than a stand-alone product.
While Greene's other books have a heavy literary, if not academic weight, The 50th Law is comparatively breezy and light. That said, I had a really hard time putting the book down - I read the whole thing during two very late nights - and I enjoyed seeing the Machiavellian ideas grafted onto the rough Queens neighborhood 50 Cent gr...more

Excellent way to re-set my mind and focus. I picked this book up 2 years ago but this is the first chance I've had to sit down and read it. I flew through it. I was reminded of why I love Robert Greene, his style is engaging with the way he ties in his lessons with historical characters. 50 Cent's story kept getting redundant in each chapter, since it opened with him, and you could tell there was a lot of detail being left out when it came to his relationship's in the music business, but it stil...more
The first time I saw this book was in self-help blog, so I expected something really motivational. 50 cent or Curtis Jackson is a rapper that I grow up listening. I remember spending day and night only listening to the his hits "candy shop" or "in da club" and at that time I really enjoyed his music. Though my tastes changed a lot, I still relisten to his music when I became nostalgic.

The 48 Laws of Power for people who don't have the cognitive ability or the attention span to read the 48 Laws of Power... I would imagine, having never actually read that book. I know it's popular in music biz circles, and it was recommended to me by DA from Chester French as one of the most horrible things you'll ever read, but it doesn't sound all that interesting to me, and you have to pay a premium for it. This, on the other hand, I found in a bargain bin, and I figured WTF since it's one o...more
I have never been a big fan of 50cent. He always seemed to sound like he was bored while he rapped, in my opinion anyway. The blurb of the book did make it sound interesting though, so I took the plunge.
The book is laid out in sections, each one devoted to it's own "law", backed up with historical, cultural and 50cent(ural?) examples and I must say I devoured it very quickly. I have read the other books in the series, the laws of power etc but this one seemed to resonate the most with me.

This book is a collaboration of the hip hop artist 50 cent and John Green. The main topic of 50th law is Fearlessness. That there are two ways of dealing fear. One is passive and the other is active. Passive mode , we seek to avoid the situation that cause us anxiety. And the Active variety, the risky or difficult situation that we fear is thrust upon us. One of the sayings that I like most is
“ The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. This book is a great motivation for us. Especially in...more

Surprisingly positive and empowering, this book still contains Robert Greene's trademark ruthlessness. (You won't see Tony Robbins using the example of 50 Cent slashing a would-be hitman's face with a razor anytime soon.)
It contains so much down-and-dirty practical advice, I found myself highlighting most of the text. Greene has stripped the wording to its bare minimum, making it a quicker read than his other books. While he still cites historical examples from time to time, most are contemporar...more

Part biography, part self help book and extremely repetitive throughout. It wont be satisfying for fans of 50 cent and it won't be satisfying if you're looking for a biography of other historical figures because it manages to touch on everyone only briefly. It doesn't pay enough attention to any one subject and Greene tells the same story of 50 Cent as a hustler over and over again. Seriously, theres only so many times I need to hear about him being shot with 9 bullets.

well, fiddy, you are not a great philosopher.
i made it about 20% through this book and i was dumbfounded that there was 80% more yet to read. this was very clearly NOT written by fifty cent. i recently read a rolling stone article about rick ross where the interviewer is at some fancy seafood restaurant in la and ross is just sitting across from him smoking blunt after blunt and eating shellfish talking about his life and how he goes about living it.

Five stars because it was exactly the book I needed to read at this point in my life. 50th Law is about being fearless with life, yourself, and with other people. I never knew that 50 Cent had such a compelling life story. Robert Greene interweaves 50's life story with other examples in history to illustrate the theme of each chapter. The ten chapters have an underlying theme that together make the 50th law. Greene's prose itself is very interesting and empowering.

This is actually a very well-written book about the life's lessons and overcoming fear as an obstacle to success. I was initially skeptical as to whether a book coauthored by 50 Cent could possibly be of worth, but it is an engaging, engrossing read with quite a bit of social relevance and usefulness. Somewhat of a retread of Robert Greene's The 48 Laws of Power with a slight flavour of Machiavelli's The Prince, and admittedly repetitive at times, it references 50 Cent's trials and tribulations...more
