Interesting. Muslim communities are not more prone to violence than non-Muslim ones, they are not more religious, they have less socioeconomic inequality. And acts of terrorism are much more likely to be perpetrated by Muslims, although most of those attacks are against other Muslims.

These and other findings are backed up by what looks like rigorous statistical analysis which I didn't understand at all and had to skip over.

The author seeks to determine empirically how Muslims views themselves and their world. The data for the book is mostly based on information from the World Values Survey, an in-depth survey done every five years in a number of countries around the globe. This is a book that looks at the evidence when it comes to the major points raised about muslims in any conversation about islam. Even being born in a muslim community and living there all one's life doesn't make one an expert in "muslims" but maybe in his community only. All in all, a great book to read for both muslims and non muslims!
By the way, I had to skip all the statistical analysis to the conclusions and discussion.

As a political science major, this book was honestly not what I was expecting. I was lucky enough to take a class taught by the author; he is a very data-oriented scholar, but this book is not. There is a lot of statistical analysis, but all of it is laid out for a reader that is not very stats-knowledgeable, and is a relatively good read. If you enjoy political science works, you might just enjoy this book.
