Quite a find! A marvelous story. I plucked it from the 25 cent pile at a used book store. Fox wrote it in 1906. Wonderful narrative, well handled plot, streamlined, fast. This man can write. I have a soft spot for Kentucky and the mountains around the Cumberland Gap. Call it sentimental, but the story portrays mountain people with pretty authentic mountain dialect and manners, sympathetically if romantically rendered.

Not everybody's cup of tea, no doubt, but here's the opening:
