This is a truly delightful little book which I very much enjoyed reading. It's more of a novella or an extended short story for me, though that might just be the proliferation of huge fantasy tomes trying to make a grab for my attention.

The book is very well written, dialogue flows nicely - as always I would like a bit more characterisation on some of the players, I'm still not sure what the craic is with 'Jake'. It feels like it should be one of a series of probably surrounding heavier and lon

I liked this book. It was light, pleasant reading all the way. I finished reading it in a matter of 2 days.
As for the cons, Petersen's character could have been developed a bit more, and the last 15 pages felt like they were written in a rush.

The positives far outweigh the negatives. May is an interesting character, and makes one laugh most of the time. Her obsession with her bladder is amusing. This bodily function was described in detail no less than 3 times.

Strongly recommended...

Fun Novella (novelette?). Like Weaver's Shroud I thoroughly enjoyed the author's style, the setting, and the characters. The story was fairly simple and as I mentioned in my review of Weaver's Shroud I'd have liked more ... But it was a fun read regardless. Others have listed this as perhaps a YA novella but I disagree ... It was straight forward and lacked numerous counter plots but I find it more like a fast paced fantasy romp like fantasy was before the bloated 600+ page fantasy novel became ...more

Young-adult novel; the tone is warm-and-fuzzy-feeling.

It sort of bothered me: everyone's like "There's a bounty on Peterson's head because he's a murderer!", and when questioned about it he gets all evasive, but May sort of ignores all that because she wants to rescue and marry him. "Pirates have to kill people sometimes," she says, "I'll bet the courts don't understand about that."

Still fun to read.
