a friend i'm in a "book group" with gave me this. so far our only "meetings" have been at the end of "a bottle of jack" screaming about whether or not death in venice had a point or not. but this was awesome and now i'm going to have to go back to the beginning and read vols 1 and 2 and hopefully not get sucked into graphic novels like some Heroes fan and never see the sun again.

Jesse Custer and company take on the "Grail" and Allfather D'Aronique in this volume of Preacher. Custer also takes on some old family members, as well. Cassidy pretends to be Custer and winds up getting imprisoned and shot up pretty badly. Gory, brutal, and irreverent. I shouldn't like this comic, but I do.

The continuation of Preacher continues as Jesse continues his search for God and deepens his involvement as a target of the Grail; unfortunately, this volume's story elements leave some to be desired, but we are eventually rewarded with the story of Cassidy's past.

Now I kind of want to research the Irish fight against the English. I already learned that a "black and tan" (Bass or Harp's and Guinness) is named after a division of the British army sent to suppress the Sinn Fein rebellion of 1919 to 1921. Isn't that COOL?

I should like this series a lot more than I actually did. Angel/Demon sex; Irish vampire singing the Clash; Voodoo and Kill Bill type assassins. But I gave it 3 stars so Jimmy wouldn't hate me! Just kidding. Some parts are great, some kind of just bored me.

Jimmy said, "wait til you get 'Proud Americans.' Probably the greatest revenge story I've ever read." Maybe that's a spoiler. Maybe it isn't. Either way, I whole-heartedly agree. Anyway, I hope I'm remember the correct volume.

Preacher is one of the classic collections of graphic novels. Not quite as amazing as Sandman, but still a fascinating, imaginative, distinctive series.
Ennis is great.

This edition contains some of the funniest and sickest scenes I have ever seen in comics, to include just how far you can go to torture an immortal vampire.

At the beginning of this installment, we learn what happened to Jesse's dad during the Vietnam War.
And the story continues to build.

This is a very funny, very wrong, well character-developed series. Heavy on the anti-hero. And definitely not for everyone.

As usual, by turns emotionally powerful and extremely funny.

Um . . . I'm just glad most preachers aren't like this.
