This book by Ann Rule tells the story of Tom Capano and Anne Marie Fahey. He was a powerful attorney prominent in politics and from an Italian immigrant family that made it good in the Wilmington, DE area. She was a scheduling secretary for the governor and suddenly she’s missing without a trace! As the story unfolds, details of Tom and Ann Marie’s affair come out including her struggle to rid herself of this vile man. Tom also has a wife, 4 lovely girls and a long-term mistress! Both of the “ot...more
This is a story of a young woman who was taken in by an older married man. She never feels good about the relationship, and when she falls in love with someone else, she tries to break it off with him. Apparently no woman had ever said "no" to this man. He killed her and got his brother to help him hide the body. Tom Capano was a suspect from the beginning because he was the last one to be seen with her. They were at a restaurant together. It took several years to convict him bec...more
I give it 3.5 stars, actually. Considering Rule did not start out her career as a writer, the writing is pretty good. The story itself is very intriguing. At first I was wary of the book's length, but I quickly became immersed in the lives of the principals involved in the crime and the ensuing investigation. I found myself creeped out as I went to bed at night by Capano's actions--disturbing, manipulative and subtle--and I thought about Anne Marie during the day, how sad she was. I didn't watch...more
Tom Capano is a possessive and controlling womanizer, and a pathological liar who got away with it for many years due to his status as a golden boy within his community. It was a long time bringing him to justice and very satisfying when it finally happened. She always does amazing justice to the victims and their families with her honest but compassionate depictions of the innocents involved and manages always to keep things interesting. This is one of Ann's longer books, but it flew by quickly...more
By the time I finished reading this book, I felt as if I knew the people in this true story. It was fascinating to get inside the mind of Tom Capano, who was very obviously a narcissist. The girl he wooed ,stalked, and murdered that he put under his spell was the girl next door. One of those books you can't put down.
For a long time I couldn't get enough Ann Rule. She wrote these big books that were about so much more than the crime they recount. Almost social history. Didn't care for the collections she published, it all got a bit tired eventually. Do I remember that she knew Ted Bundy when he was working on a phone crisis line?
Ann Rule tells the story of Anne Marie Fahey and Tom Capano as though she were a Wilmington native. Despite having seen and read media coverage, I was sucked in by Ann's compilation of research and interviews. She paints a big picture of everyone involved and did it with much sympathy to Anne Marie.
The story is so well know around the Philadelphia & Delaware areas yet Ann Rule shows her talents as she write and molds the background of each and every character and goes way into the mind of Tom Capano. Ann Marie will be missed yet her memory will live on in this book. Thanks
This is a true crime story, thus my "f-mystery" and "nonfiction" shelves. Story of the murder of Ann Fahey in Wilmington Delaware by Thomas Capono, a prominent attorney and former lo. Suspenseful and well written. Not dry but very factual. I'd read this author again.
WOW! I live on the east coast and I remember this case well, read about it in the Phil Inq.
Lethal injection is too good for this guy. Stuff him in a cooler. What a swath of tragedy by one evil man.
I have read quite a few of Ann Rule's books. Everyone is good.

As usual Ann Rule's research into true crime is captivating and flawless. You all read in the news about the death of Anne Marie Fahey, the trusted secretary to Delaware's Governor, we even blamed him for it. If you want the truth ask Rule.
Ann Rule starts out out the very beginnings of Delaware which I sure like as I knew nothing. It was in its early days controlled by Du Pont! She builds the story slowly and carefully going into amazing details about all the people who were even remotely involved.
This was another one of those books I could not put down. I love almost everything Ann Rule writes, and this was no exception. I totally recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading true crime.
Very entertaining read. A little dated (Tom Capano's sentence has since been reduced to life in prison), but still easy to read. Might be a little heavy on the details.
Very well documented true crime story. Absolutely fascinating to see how someone can have everything and think they are above the law to where they lose everything.
As all of Anne Rule's books I couldn't put this down. Anne Rule is a Queen in my eyes. I love all of her books.
I love Ann Rule and true crime books! This man is twisted. And I found out more info on the web about the aftermath.
This was a sensational news story out of Delaware and the book was very good. One the of author's best.
Ann Rule capatures the minute details of the sociopathic mind in great detail.
A decent book, Not as good as some of Rule's other books.
This was depressing but I couldn't put it down.
Tightly written. Scarier because it is true.
Only read "And Never Let Her Go" ... very good
Extremely good book.

The sad true tale of Anne Marie Fahey, and her killer, Thomas Capano. As with many of this author's longer, one-case books, this one is very well written and a chilling insight into both victim and perpetrator. Not for the overly sensitive, but one of Rule's better books.

while i've never read a true crime book before, i don't think i like this type of book. there was way too much detail and it took forever to actually get into the story line. the first part of the book describe the characters ancestors. i don't see a point in reading about a person's grandparents, it didn't matter in the plot. as much as i wanted to put this book down, i didn't because i wanted to see what happened in the end.
Author needed to shave about 100 pages off, but all in an all a good book.
Confession. I wound up reading only the Ann Marie chapters -- Capano couldn't hold my attention...
True crime.
