It is completely and totally official. I've fallen head over heals in love with Lurlene McDaniel. Just finished this book this morning and I'm sooo lookign forward to the rest of em! (I've gotta stack of her books just waiting for me to turn their pages) The books, to say the VERY least, will be one of the sadest books you read. One quote from the book "Last Dance" (The second book and my favorite.) is something like this: "He didn't just touch my heart-" and then some very sappy, tear jerking,...more

Three holiday stories end with the theme of "a starry starry night" in this McDaniels tear-jerker. In the first story, a girl named Melanie is an only child whose mother is about to giver birth right before Christmas. However, the entire family's excitment is shattered when they learn that the baby has a rare disease, and will not survive through the week. Melanie must then contemplate the meaning of such a short life, and why such horrible things are allowed to happen. The second story belongs...more

"Starry, Starry Night" has three different stories. The first story is about a girl who's name is Melanie who is expecting a sister on Christmas Eve. What she didn't know is that the baby wouldn't live as long as she hoped.
The second story "The Last Dance" Brenda is faced with a difficult decision between good intentions and what she wants, she doesn't realize how much she really does mean to this dying boy.
In the last story; "Kathy's Life" Kathy doesn't come from the wealthiest family ever, b...more

Lurlene McDaniel is an amazing author. I have read a few of her books before so I was really interested in this book about the holidays. It contains three short stories, each with a powerful message.

The first, “Christmas Child,” begins with 15-year-old Melanie being very excited about this Christmas because her mother is expecting her second child. When the baby is born, something is terribly wrong. After finally hearing the prognosis Melanie is upset that she will never truly know her baby sis...more

This book was a collection of three short stories. In each story, the protagonist was a high school girl dealing with issues of life, including a girl dealing with the death of a newborn sister, a girl dealing with a boy with cancer, and a girl dealing with the temptation of sex. In the end, each girl is able to find hope in their situation and make the best out of what they're experiencing. I thought the short stories dealt with teen issues, and I'm not surprise...more

I thought this was new and realized I'd already read it... but oh wells. I've supported Lurlene McDaniel more and had stories to read and cry over again...
These, in her fashion, are touching stories, and I enjoyed them all. I read all three in about an hour and a half.
They are all Christmas stories, and the first has a lot of religious talk in it, which is okay with me but it may be good for others to be aware. It makes sense with the circumstances and it doesn't seem preachy to me, it seems...more

Three short stories of three young women who have all wished upon a star

I don't know quite how I managed to miss that these were Christmas stories when I checked the book out, but they are. There are three different short stories in the book. One is about Melanie who gets a little sister for Christmas, but the baby has lots of health problems. Brenda's story is a tale about helping a boy with leukemia find the happiness that he has always dreamed about. And Ellie learns from Kathy's story as she develops a friendship with this girl who seemingly has everything. All...more

This book was based on three different holiday stories. The first story told was about what happened to fifteen year old Melanie and how her baby sister was alive for only a few days. The second story was how Brenda was struggling between helping guy who she doesn't really know and her desire of a guy who she liked. The last story was about a senior, named Kathy and how she faced her life of what happened to her when she was fifteen. In the story, she also meet a friend named Ellie who is also s...more

Ah yes... Lurlene McDaniel. I think it's safe to say that whenever you decide to read a Lurlene McDaniel book, you could expect to get somewhat emotional. Starry, Starry Night was a nice quick read about three different stories, all pertaining to theme of "Wishing Upon A Star". My favorite of the three stories was Last Dance, which I wish could have been a story on its own! I really enjoyed it.

Although this is a Holiday set story, it makes for a good read anytime.

I read "Christmas Child" in this collection of stories. I could see this appealing to middle school age girls. For me it was a little too cheesy, the family and characters were perfect, not very believable. Lurlene McDaniel is definitely not one of my first choice authors, her style doesn't appeal to me. That does not mean that others do not like her, a lot of people enjoy her works. This book was a good one to read about Christmas. It is about finding hope and love in the midst of death and des...more

Another of my favorite all of these books are amazing. Plus it's set around Holidays so it's encouraging and romantic during that season. I was hooked from beginning till end.

Yet another great book written by Lurlene McDaniel and not some sappy love story like most holiday themed books are. A somewhat quick read but interesting and somewhat light mood.
Eryn
Nobody should ever read the second story in this book, it is very disturbing! (Unless you are fine with awkward and sick, disgusting things that are openly talked about!!!!!!)
Star Shyne Brite (Stargirl)
so sad :( I really almost cried in the first part! Why do all of her books end sadly???!?!?!?! I think only one of her books has actually ended happily!
Iris
I liked how it was made up of three short stories, even though some parts of it made me cry. :'(
