The story started out suspenseful and mysterious, making me wonder how the rest of the plot would unfold, but after a couple pages the shine and luster disappeared. I was annoyed with the characters and didn't feel like they were developed very well at all. I wanted to see more of their personalities, but the author just gave you a few interesting snipits and left the rest to your imagination, leaving large gaps where there should have been information. I was not pleased with how Ruth acted t...more

I was introduced to this book when I was puttering around the teen section of the library, looking for a graphic novel to devour on the bus ride home. I stopped to talk with one of our Teen Librarians about finding some edible vampire tales for one of my friends that I recommend books to, mainly because I was getting tired of plowing through the candy floss crud that makes up a good chunk of teen literature on my own.

This is one of those novels that hinges on a mystery or surprise ending which is not a surprise. Well, perhaps some people were baffled by it, but I guessed rather early what was going on and the rest of the book then had to be plowed through. As it was a short read this wasn't as bad as it sounded.
Basically this book was unoffensive. If that doesn't sound like a lot of praise it's because everything about it was fairly bland.

Scarlet Moon is as much a fairy tale as its inspiration is, though expanded and with an attempt to give the characters more depth. The story goes as the reader predicts, but the magic is in the way the story is told. Viguié has a beautiful way with words, and the story is enchanting every step of the way.
At only one hundred fifty seven pages, the book is pretty short, though I don’t think the tale could have supported much more expansion. The ending was predictable and a little di...more

So. This "Once Upon A Time" series has had some amazing retellings like this one, and some that made me want to chuck them through the window - namely the ones where the main character ended up with the random stranger instead of their friend/much-more-likely other half (DO NOT TOUCH THEIR VERSIONS OF CINDERELLA OR THE LITTLE MERMAID. TRUST ME.) But this is one of my favorites, next to their version of 1,001 Arabian Nights. Some of their stories are just TOO twisted, but this one was t...more

This book was a creative retelling of Little Red Riding Hood only, she's all grown up. I really liked the author's mixing of the original fairytale merged with the new. It was a good balance.
One thing I really liked were the moral dilemas in this book. It gave the book depth. I LOVED how this book presents the idea that just because their is science and medicine, that doesn't mean that their isn't a God. So refreshing and worth mentioning. Especially in today's world.

Not my favorite in the Once Upon A Time series, an interesting if very predictable twist on Little Red Riding Hood. Still, a good, very quick read for anyone who likes retellings of fairy tales.

This one is my favorite in the "Once upon a time" series. A retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Ruth is a daughter of a blacksmith, also trained in the arts. She meets a young man William, who is a Nobleman. He has a very shady history.
There is a paragraph in the book that I thought was very deep. Ruth is talking to her grandmother (Giselle) about William and she tells her; "I loved your grandfather, and we were very different people. In loving him though, and marrying him...more

Scarlet Moon is a retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood." The story contains some interesting and imaginative elements. The wolf is actually a prince under a curse--he turns into a werewolf during the full moon. He falls in love with Ruth (Red Riding Hood). There is a touch of romance about this one that will appeal to teen readers.

I love this series of fairy tale retellings, and while there were aspects of this book that were kind of fun, all in all it was a bit lame. The ending happened way too "TaDum! Curse broken! Happy Ever After!" Some of the characters didn't make much sense, and while I really liked some aspects of Ruth and William's relationship, some parts were just cliche and "Yay, verily, I love thee, my beloved..." Worth reading (it's QUICK - it took me a day, and I have two busy boys),...more

If you love classic fantasy stories!
One of my favs of forever!! I believe I've now read this book about four times. And it never gets old. It is a very easy book to read, which is one of the reasons I keep coming back to it. It also tells of a very dangerous and passionate love, without all of the "PG-13" material. The fantasy mixes the story of Little Red Riding Hood with The Crusades and warewolves. A fantasy delight, you will want to keep coming back to it. I think it should become a movie, the casting list is already...more

I liked this. I didn't even realize this was a re-do, until about half way through because there were so many new and interesting parts of the story added. I looked it up when it started sounding familiar though and I saw that there were a bunch of books in this series that are re-do's on classic fairy tales. I enjoyed this one enough to where I think I am going to give the others a chance.

This is Little Red Riding Hood meets a werewolf. It could have been interesting, but it was just dumb. There wasn't even any kind of attempt at plot development. The stilted romance and plot twist reminded me of bad anime. This is the worst of the Once Upon a Time series I've read so far. If you insist on reading it, it will only take you about three hours.

I enjoyed the story twist for the most part. It was a different view on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. It started off good but the ending seemed really quick. I wont give anything away but it seemed like the author ran out time and "poof" there was the ending. I was a bit dissapointed but I did enjoy most of it.

I wish this would have been longer. This series of teen-marketed retellings is only about 150 pp each, so the story isn't overdeveloped at all. This is a retelling of Little RedRiding Hood and it was great! It also had elements of Peter and the Wolf. I enjoyed the climax and denoument. It was a great, clean romance.

aawwoooooo!!!! (makes my wolf heart howl) this is a good one! I really like it... it taught me a lot about how to right romantic settings..... it's a whole lot of that sort of stuff, so if you have a weak stomach for kissing, and want a little more meaty plot, don't bother reading... but I still liked it!

DEFINITELY not as good of an author as Cameron Dokey!! I would classify this author as, what I term, a "cheap" author...uses somewhat obvious dialogue and characteristics, instead of clever characters and conversation to appeal to a more well read audience.

Would have given it 2.5 stars. IT was quick, decent, choppy, and easy to read. I thought it was cool how she retold several of the classic fairy tales in one story. The two in this story were Little Red Riding Hood and werewolves in general.

This is the retelling of Red Riding Hood. I liked some of the images and thoughts in this book but overall not very good writing. Probably more like 2 1/2 stars. A very quick read...maybe an hour or two.

Scarlet Moon is definitely the best retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Who knew the wolf, or should I say werewolf could be so attractive? A must read for all fairytale lovers!
