Who is the intended audience? Teenage girls.
What is the main issue? That, no matter what, you will find love and can be yourself.
The setting makes it seem more classical. Princesses and Balls belong in that time, but it could be in another.
The antagonists are Lord Chad and Lord Clyde. Protagonists are Sarah, Alex, and Miranda

This book had some major pluses and some major flaws. What I liked about the book was the story. It was a new twist on an old idea and I thought it was a great idea. The setting, mostly the house and the orchard were nice backdrops to this story. But it was the story itself and the cleanliness of the book that got it to three stars. The characters were ok I got to know them but am not sure I liked them. Sarah was so silly and something was off with the Prince, can't quite put my finger on it and...more
My twelve year old self would have loved this story without exception, but as an adult reader I had a hard time getting past the convenient plot twists that sacrificed the characterization. Throughout the book the reader is told that Sarah is a free willed, assertive young woman, but every time she was put in a difficult situation, she rode her horse in a field and then came home and accepted her punishment. She doesn't DO anything in the story. Instead, she is usually the last to know. The auth...more
This was a fun read. But you have to turn your mind off.
The story itself sweeps you away, and the characters are dashing and romantic or dastardly and conniving. All entertaining stuff.
I kept getting pulled out of the story by weird things. If you want to set a story in some made up land, I am totally cool with that, and you can give the characters whatever names you feel like and I'll totally buy into it. But the moment you set your story someplace real, like say, Spain or France, a certain lev...more

I thought this was a cute story; it had a kind of fairytale feel to it. The story moved along quickly and kept me interested. It actually reminded me of a couple other books I’ve read. Where there is a princess who is in disguise for one reason or another. This book ended up going a different direction than I was expecting, and I liked that while it was predictable, it was still unexpected. I liked the main character Sarah and her love interest Alex. I thought they were cute together. Sarah goes...more
THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!! I loved it. The whole book is good, but when you get about half way through you won't want to put it down because you will want to know what is going to happen!!! I really enjoyed this story. I couldn't put the book down. There was even a bit of humor and sarcasm. I liked that while it was sometimes predictable, it was still unexpected.

I thought about only giving it three stars because I cannot say that I LOOOOOOVED it that much, but on the other hand, a book that keeps me engaged (brain candy) deserves more than a three, so there you have it: four. I honestly don't know how people write books together. These two sisters who wrote it have somehow blended their wordprints enough that it feels like it was written by one person. I liked the problem-solving that went on throughout the story. I was a little shocked at the abrupt ch...more

This was an easy quick read. I knew from the first how everything was going to end, and I was OK with that. Sometimes I don't need huge surprises at the end.
There were some good villains in here. You really grow to not like them at all. The romance was sweet and cute, too.
One part that bothered me was the true devotion that Miranda gave Sarah, almost to the point of ignoring her true daughter. I know Miranda had a secret to keep, but show some attention to Felicia too. Mom could have helped Sara...more

I loved this book, I don't own a Kindle but the book version isn't on this sight yet. The Mark of Royalty was written by two sisters. I hope they plan on writting more books together.
Miranda is surprised when Apollo the King's Advisor comes to her with a baby girl in his arms; the baby has the mark of royalty on her shoulder since she is the firstborn, but she is a twin and the second baby is a son and he was given the mark of royalty also. There is a prophecy predicted that all firstborns woul...more

Mark of Royalty had a very fairy tale-like feel to me. I do wish the authors had kept the setting to a purely fantasy one, and not mixed in "real" countries like Austria and Spain. Each mention of those countries jerked me out of the story a bit. But they were only occasionally mentioned, so for the most part I was able to glide along smoothly through the world that the authors created. Mark of Royalty starts off with a great conflict that will make the reader want to find out how the conflict w...more
I would probably give this book 2.5 stars. There were times I found myself enjoying the story, but overall it needed a lot of refinement before it should have been published.
My Rating System

Darling fairytaleish story of a princess who doesn't know who she truly is. She is kind, clever and accepting of others. She trusts others to a fault and always sees the good often when there is none. I loved how the authors were able to change my mind and feelings about many characters in the story. I evolved as a reader the way the characters were evolving over time. The romance was sweet, the outcome fairly obvious early on, but the ride was fun and always exciting. Sword fights, ball gowns,...more
Cute story with a cinderellaesque (yes, I like to make up words, thank you very much) feel.
Sarah has no idea that she is a princess. But after the loss of her mother (or the woman whom she believes to be her mother), events are set in motion that lead the to revelation that she is indeed a princess, and first born, of a neighboring kingdom. (don't worry, this isn't a spoiler, we know from the start that Sarah is a Princess, we just have to wait to see how she discovers her hidden royalty).

As far as historical reads go for teens, this was a pretty cute one. There is a definite Ever After vibe to the story that keeps you flipping pages, routing on Sarah from the very beginning. Having been passed off at birth, marked with a tattoo that was the insignia of her royal lineage, Sarah grew up knowing nothing about her past. All she knew was that Miranda, her adopted mother, was her protector and biggest fan. Going against the grain of other "Cinderella" tales, in this one it is her step...more
Hands down this is going on my list of the top hundred of my favorite books (Trust me, its hard to get there.)
The beginning was intruging. You knew who Sarah was and she didn't know herself. She was more of a innocent factor. Chad was her best friend and only way to the inside of things. She trusted him fully.
And then the time came where Clyde and Felicia turned against her. Sarah grieved the death of her mother and refused to see Chad. Chad's one failing in all this was that a true friend would...more

This story had a Cinderella feel to it and I am a pushover for a clean, romantic princess story. Mark of Royalty told the story of a girl who was the firstborn twin and was given the royal mark (brand) at birth, only to be followed by a twin brother. He, too, was given the mark and the girl was taken away to be raised away from the kingdom so she wouldn't be killed. Sarah grew up as a normal girl, but was matched with a relation to royalty in her new country. She unexpectedly meets Alex and feel...more
Mark of Royalty is a rewrite of the fairy tale Cinderella with a few creative twists. I think young girls would really enjoy reading this book. Sarah is doted on by her adopted mother but when death claims her Sarah is left with her stepfather that only wants the best for him and that is not always the best for Sarah. But despite difficult circumstances in her home life Sarah does meet her prince and goes to the ball.

This is probably the kind of book I would have loved when I was about 12, and I could see it having a lot of appeal to young girls. It's a Cinderella-esque story about schemes, secret identities, and, of course, romance.
If you're into the classic Cinderella storyline, you won't be disappointed. There are a lot of perilous elements introduced, but they are never explained or developed into being a big part of the story, which I thought was too bad.

Sweet book.
It was set in the Renaissance era, but there wasn't any genuine history in it - so don't get your hopes up there. It is a romance/mystery, and not really historical fiction.
It was clean, sweet and simple. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't thrilling. Still, I appreciate the book because you don't often find a nice book you can share with your young friends that is safe and unobjectionable. My thanks go out to the authors.

I got to meet the authors of this book, and new that it was a first time book for them. Consequently, I was prepared to indulge, and just decide to like it. I am glad to say the story is really intriguing, tense and enjoyable. The writing is a little bit amateur but really a joy to read! I realized that one part is my dream first meeting, being the romantic I am :) Love, Sariah
PS. They both grew up in Monticello, but neither live here now.

A very likable story in the "light reading" category. Kind of a Cinderella Story--the girl is removed from her mother at birth, before her mother can know that she exists, because the mother had twins and there was a prophecy about a male heir. The main character grows up not knowing she's a princess, because her foster mother keeps the secret till her death.
Again I like Fairy tale-esque books, and this was a lovely fairy tale! This book was very Cinderella like. Only she had a wicked step father. I thought it was beautifully written. I think this would be a great book for girls, it really has a good heroine who has a strong personality. She is able to stand up for herself, even when left alone in the world.
This was predictable and it did take a long time to get to the plot. I do like the basic story. Their were parts of this story that it made me think of the story of Cinderella. It took someone else to help make the "happy ever after" happen. There wasn't a fairy godmother but a old woman nonetheless.
So really I do think that this book should be 2.5 stars.

It was an interesting idea thought I didn't feel it was executed extremely well. There was one twist in the plot that was genuinely surprising and fit well, but the others were predictable and the timing was off. Or maybe it was slow. Maybe I just think these things because I read this book amidst a couple of others that I got completely caught up in. :)
I absolutely loved this book! It really swept me away and it is the best book i've read in a while. I loved the plot and loved the characters also. Alex is now officially my new favorite fictional prince and I think I am in love with him :)
(I didn't really love the cover of this book though)
By the way: this would make the best movie ever!

Two words: SO GOOD!!! I really just love it when the main character of a book actually knows who she is and what she stands for. Sarah is stubborn in her ways, a quality that I can very much relate to :). I love the romance, and I love that it was sweet and loving, without being over bearing, or even under-bearing! I loved it through and through!!!
I read this book in three hours! I couldn't put it down. It reminds me of Pride and Prejudice and Everafter. If you have seen one of those and liked it I guarntee you would LOVE this. I felt like i could really connect with sarah. How she felt, thought, ect. I think i just wish i could be in a fairytale situation like her.

“He nodded. "You ... You enjoy having the freedom to do what you please, and you love life." It was not a question this time, but a statement. "And take pleasure in simple things." Sarah nodded, content to let him explain his perception of her. "Let me see," he continued. "You like to read, and ... oh! You have a passion for horses unlike any I have ever seen in a lady and in only a few men.”
