Take an apocalyptic heroine, monks with psychic powers, villages in the Himalayas, a very torrid romance and a political thriller that reaches right to the core of the US government and you have this complex and compelling thrill-ride of a novel.

Allie now lives with the Seers after humankind has named her an enemy and terrorist. She’d like to heal the world and finally have sex with her husband, except her husband is gone on a secret mission and everyone—humans, and every enemy faction of seer—i...more

"Grappling with her identity as "Bridge," a being thought to herald the end of humanity, isn't even Allie's biggest problem. She's also dealing with being married to a seer while trying to stop the Rook she put in the White House from starting a war. Then the boy appears. A highly dangerous telekinetic seer, he doesn't appear to have aged in over 100 years. Worse, he thinks Allie belongs to him.”

Shield, Allie’s War: Book two by J C Andrijeski is a story that follows on from the first novel. All...more

I wish I was allowed to give a 4.5-star rating but alas...

A worthy sequel to "Rook," Andrijeski's vivid descriptive language take us back into a world of human-Seer conflict, where one woman holds the key to inter-species transformation. In "Shield," we find Allie, known among Seers simply as, the Bridge, coming to terms with her existence, trying to understand and prepare for a destiny she hardly grasps or believes in, and in the midst of it all, attempting to mend the wounds of a troubled rela...more

Oh my. And by that I mean, OH MY! I devoted every waking moment of two days to this book - never have I been so grateful for the kid's karate and gymnastics. I only give 5 stars when putting a book down feels like grieving. JC Andrijeski has the storyteller's gift.

This book picks up shortly after Rook: Allie's War Book One leaves off, and it has a forward momentum that just doesn't quit. The tension between Allie and her mate, Revik, never completely resolves, and the two of them are so in love,...more

The world is insane in a way. All of us are insane.

Coming to terms with being the Bridge isn't easy, especially when your husband won't tell you all the rules - and keeps getting separated from you. As Allie tries to come to terms with both her new role as the Bridge and her feelings for Revik, she also must stop a war - if she can. Amidst all of this tension, the boy appears, claiming Allie belongs to him.

Continuing where Rook left off, the tension between Allie and Revik is hyped up in this bo...more

Shield is the sequel to Rook, both in the Allie's War series. It is a complicated, sophisticated, continuance of the story of Allie, a seer who was raised as human, and her husband Revik. While I found it frustrating that Allie and Revik just cannot seem to get together, it does make for great reading and there are at least four more books in this series, so it could happen yet. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I will say the suspense continues throughout and there is so much more to the s...more

I had a great time diving back into the wonderful world created by J.C. Andrijeski.
‘The Shield’, the second book in the series, has lived up to the standard of the first book.
As gripping, as action-packed, as full with tension, this time the story peeks, taking the reader onto a different level.
The powers Allie and Revik are facing much stronger this time, more powerful, more unrestrained than ever.
Their love story is beautiful, marvelously tense and heartbreaking.
The twist in the end is br...more

I've published novels, short stories and nonfiction articles and essays, as well as an illustrated children's story in an anthology. I've also produced a graphic novel version of my Bridge series books, entitled Rook, and written a number of screenplays for short films and done other odd and end film type stuff. My main focus right now is writing novels however, including several middle grades and...more
