''She lists like Hornby. She talks dirty like Amis. She has the misanthropy of Larkin and examines the finer points of sexual technique as she is adjusting the torque on a beloved but temperamental old E-type...It's hard to believe that this clever and candid new voice has no more to say. Whoever the author is, she should give up the day job. Only then will we find out wha...more

I got this book from the recent book sale that I went to. I bought it because… well, you know, I used to read Belle’s, a.k.a Dr. Brooke Magnati’s blog. She’s a real call girl and writes a really explicit blog. I found her blog really interesting (she jot down on how she works as a professional during the day and a call girl at night in her blog), and so… I bought this.

While I couldn’t really stomach ’50...more

I should say, before I go any further, that if it weren't for the first 75 pages of this book, it would have had an even lower grade.

Firstly, this book is not what it claims to be -- considering the fact that Belle is out of the sex trade within the first 100 pages and her 'Adventures' consist almost entirely of a passive-aggressive, co-dependent relationship with a cheating former ex, do not expect this to be anything like the first book.

At first, I was intrigued by Belle's new-found regrets ov...more

If I hadn't read this book purely for the mindless entertainment value I'd be more disappointed, but I can't say I didn't know what to expect. That being said this wasn't even as good as the first book, in that Belle spends the majority of it as an ex-Call Girl, making the title a bit of a misnomer. So whilst the sex was still present, it wasn't as lurid or interesting a read as one would hope. In fact, reading about Belle dealing with 'normal' relationship woes such as cheating partners became...more

I bought this book primarily because I had bought and read the first one. I thought this book was okay as a sequel but felt like it was a bit of a let - down, as she was no longer a call girl but it focused primarily on her adventures afterwards, that being said however it still contained enough descriptive sex to keep the reader content. I also love that it shows what happened after the first book closed. It's always nice to read what happens later in life. It was an okay book and a must read f...more

Disclosure:
I get this edition from Amazon.com I bought it in an Electronic form, written in English with a nice quality of writing alphabets.

My Plot:
The whole story was an autobiography, of a British girl who was coming far from London to make her studies in Physics in the London University. In fact the girl has to support herself by some money, that was the right decision she made, She contacted the Agency of sexual services, she works as a call girl, in fact she fancied the Blow job and all s...more

I didn't know that this was part of a series when I got it and perhaps that has biased my thoughts on it but here they are anyway, for now.

I was excited to read this because strangely enough I have always been fascinated by the high-class prostitute. Their reasons, lifestyle, sacrifice and ability to cope with the stigma of their job is endlessly interesting. Belle De Jour is the top of her tree and her series of books really lets you into the life of a london call girl.

The only problem was that...more

Firstly, I should say that this book is really rather explicit, and is very much not suitable for younger readers.

Secondly, I should say that I didn’t finish this book. I got bored. When reading something is a chore, it’s definitely time to stop. I liked the first book in the series, and picked the second up because I found it in a second hand book store, and thought it’d be another nice chick-lit, give me a few laughs, and be easy reading.

Note, it wasn’t.

Given this book is meant to be about Be...more

The follow-up to The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl, this book came in the mail at the exact perfect time, when I was making no headway with any of the books I had been picking up over the past month or so, and when I needed something light and fluffy and moderately escapist to read. The thing is, in my review of the last book, I described how it was the exception to my no-chicklit rule, that it was a slightly trashy guilty pleasure.

But the sequel isn't quite the same, and it's a ple...more

Where are all the strong woman of wisdom, grace and intelligence. Cos they ain't in this book! I hope no young woman has ever read this and thought Belle was a role model. She flits between where he call girl days with a badge of honour to low self worth guilt that makes her stay in a relationship that never should have started, let alone carried on as long as it did. From spying on her useless boyfriend, to believing all men cheat this book made me feel more sorry for her then anything else

After watching a few episodes of the TV show this book would later hugely influence, I took this book to work with me. Although it took me a while to get into and really enjoy it, Belle's humour at certain moments and people throughout the book made me smile, and occasionally, laugh out loud - much to the amusement of anyone who happened to be around me. I won't be reading this book again but it was certainly likeable enough to pass a few hours.

I really enjoy the Showtime series "Secret Diary of A Call Girl", and I enjoyed the first Belle de Jour book as well. This follow up book is, for starters, completely misnamed. "The Further Adventure of a London Call Girl" follows Belle into her post-call girl life. She makes the decision to get out of the business within the first 30 or so pages, and the rest of the book follows Belle through endless ruminations on relationships and her tumultuous on-again, off-agains with "The Boy", who appear...more

Read the first book and stop. This book is not as exciting as the first one and is quite boring. If you liked the first book because of the sex and debauchery this has very little of it. If you are interested in what happens to the character then this should satiate your desires. Beware though it's a snooze!
Cat
A good read to relax and switch off. Nothing heavy or mind twisting just enjoyable fun that will make you laugh. Also very relatable to most women. There are parts in the book where I know exactly what Belle means as it's something I myself would do or think.

I was slightly disappointed with this, since I so much enjoyed the other novel. I thought it was disappointing because I liked the character being a call girl: I kinda thought that was the point of it. In this book, however, this was pretty much just her life after being a call girl, and I found her 'adventures' much less interesting.

Follow up to 'The Adventures of...'. Belle is back and at it again. But this time, things get complicated. You'll admire Belle's honesty and poise as she struggles to make it without the world (and money) she's become accustom to.

This book was entertaining, beautifully poignant at times and incredibly smart. If I could read a book like that (and of that caliber), I definitely would. Nothing like what it looks on the cover. I loved it and want to read more of this girl's writing.

It's like when they started focusing on Dexter's domestic issues instead of his "dark passenger." No one wants to hear how these exciting people have problems just like us. I was looking for more escapism.

Sure, Belle was her usual witty self, but there wasn't much else to this book. Pretty much everything that made the first book redeemable was completely lacking in this one. It really was like reading someone's compilations of anecdotes mixed with their daily journal entries - occasionally funny/shocking/insightful, but on the whole, pretty mundane and empty. There was a bit of cultural commentary regarding tourists and tourist areas, but other than that... zilch. It's not really something I'd r...more

Splendid! i used to have different perspective of a call girl until i read this! Telling stories of the life of a call girl, makes me realize another side of their lives.
Amy
The majority of this book isn't about Belle's life as a call girl, it's about her twisted relationship with the Boy. She still has interesting things to say, but it's definitely not as good as the first.
Alexandra
Passable. Think I preferred Billie Piper's acting in the TV series to the author's style in this effort. A certain charm - but, as a sequel, it is somewhat laboured.
Louise Quill
Not as good as the first, but the novelty had possibly worn a little thin by then. I found the character a lot harder to 'like' in this book.
Eloise
It was all sex and no substance. I read it with a "ooh I just stepped in dog poop" look on my face. Just grubby. Wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

Weird read.... I was not expecting to like it, but since the Initial book had raving reviews, I decided to try this. Hmmmm.... not bad
Katrina
What a painful book to read. Nothing new here, except for the fact that Belle de Jour is more boring than ever.

I loved the first book, but this one wasn't nearly as entertaining. Also not as sexual. Breezy read, though.

Parts were boring and it's very repetitive but still fun and enjoyable.
