I wanted to like this book. I really did. It was one of those books I heard about by random chance and immediately started counting down the days to its release. It looked that good, and was beautiful besides. And when I finally bought it, with its gorgeous cover, I was ecstatic. I dove right in. The beginning was amazing and drew me in right away. And now? I'm embarrassed to admit I own it. Yet another time where I've let beautifully written dus More...

Juliet Immortal was one of my most anticipated books of 2011. I loved Stacey Jay’s Dead on the Delta, and when I learned that she was writing a Shakespeare spin-off involving an original type of paranormal being, it seemed like too much awesomeness in one package. I really wanted to like Juliet Immortal, and it makes me sad that I did not.

Here’s the premise: Romeo and Juliet fell in love in medieval Italy, but their story ended rather differently than the version we all know. Romeo s More...

What a beautiful cover. I remember when I first saw it my initial thought was, Oh, please don't let it suck. I know that sounds harsh, but sometimes a cover just calls out to you and you know when you finally hold a physical copy of the book itself you'll just want to stroke it and love it and tell it it's found its home on your shelves. Unfortunately, the innards (as my boy is fond of saying) don't always match the outtards. And then I am forced to cry. Bec More...

This is not your typical Romeo and Juliet love story. For one thing the starting premise is the one where Juliet did not commit suicide for the sake of everlasting true love as the Bard's version claims but was killed by her lover Romeo who exchanged her life for immortality. But the betrayed and forsaken Juliet did not die according to plan. On the contrary she become an immortal, an ambassador of light whose sole purpose is fight for the sake of true loves across time against her one true love More...

Another book due in September (do publishers want returning students to ignore their studies???) Sounds quite intriguing, and the few reviews on this site liked it.

When I first saw this book, it seemed right up my alley. I've always hated the story of Romeo and Juliet, being on the side that always said that it was a satire (though really, we don't know for sure what Shakespeare intended exactly), but I really enjoyed this.

At first, the present tense through me off a bit, but after about a chapter, I forgot about it and it didn't detract from the story for me. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in certain parts <spoiler> like when Romeo app More...

My second dark YA romance of the day. I really disliked reading Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet in high school (it inspired me to read more Shakespeare, I thought that his plays had to be better if we still had to read them). Romeo worked really well as the tragic villain. Will be very interesting to see where Jay takes the next book.

Another case where the villain is more vibrant than the heroine, but that's because she's carrying around a lot of hate and loathing More...

"Romeo, Romeo, where art thou Romeo?"
"Why, right here, my love!"
"Oh Romeo, whyfore dost thou kiss me so?"
"All the better to suck your soul away, my love."

I couldn't resist, okay! And I know Shakespeare is turning over in his grave (I feel obliged to apologise to Krystle too) but people, Romeo and Juliet! In a YA novel set in contemporary times. How awesome is that? And Romeo and Juliet on opposite side of the spectrum with Rom More...

Never in a million years would I have thought I'd put a retelling of R+J on my TR list. This better be good because it sounds awesome.

Plus, the title isn't half bad. And I like the cover, despite the font.

Want a Shakespearian twist that you won't expect at all? Try this for a change. As I was reading this book, I found myself having quite a distaste with the author's dialogues. Love me now. that was the line that you could read in the entire book. But despite that, the story was really nice.

This book contains: a heartwarming quote on page 183, an unexpected pairing in the end, crazy characters and a different Romeo and Juliet type of plot.

Forget about having a Romeo, I wan More...

"Jeder Muskel meines Körpers ist angespannt und in Bereitschaft. Was hat er mit dem Vierteldollar vor? Will er mit damit ein Auge ausschießen? Bei Romeo kann alles zur Waffe werden - Liebe, Vertrauen ... Münzen." (S. 115-116)

Well, I don't really know how I feel about this book. I read it in one day..which I rarely ever do, so that must mean on most levels I liked it. I rated it pretty high, so I guess I still like it. And I really enjoyed the whole "meta" aspect of the book, that was cool. Plus, I like that the story of Romeo and Juliet is more complicated and enduring as it seems on its surface. Cause to be honest, R & J have just never really done it for me.

I was really excited to finally get this book, and the concept of it looked so intriguing and cool. When I opened it, I was immediately plunged into heart-stopping action. I wanted more from the start. The first scene opened up with a little background information on the book which kept me from getting really confused. Then, there was a fight scene between Juliet and Romeo, which was also really dramatic. Then Juliet got away, and jumped into a total stranger's car in order to get away. That car More...

This isn’t a typical Romeo and Juliet re-telling, in fact, it’s a YA and a Paranormal Romance. The Genre that I oh so love. Yum!
Unlike the original story, Juliet did not committed suicide out of her undying love for Romeo, but she was murdered by him instead in exchange for immortality. But unbeknownst to him, Juliet didn’t die but also gained immortality. She’s now an ambassador of light and it’s her job to un More...

bits and piece of this book sparkled for me, but on the whole, it didn't completely hold my interest. i'm a huge sucker for anything romeo and juliet. ever since watching the baz luhrmann version as an angsty teen and reading the play in high school english, i've been hooked. there's something to be said of a deep, first love, that one would give up his/her own life so as not to have to live without one's beloved. no, i don't condone suicide of any kind, but the death of the two lovers is darkly More...

There's a part of me that desperately believes in the idea that we all have soul mates. What can I say, I'm a romantic? The plot twist that Stacey Jay throws at us, that literature's most romantic love story is actually one of murder and sacrifice, well that certainly throws a wrench into my fantasy. Still, from the very beginning, I was hooked. Romeo's first appearance sent shivers down my spine and I felt like I was there with Juliet. I actually love Stacey Jay's More...

There are just sooo many reasons why you should read this book. This is fureakin amazing. From the writing style, to the story itself, it’s like you’re watching a movie every single scene you will not want to miss. This is the kind of book I want to keep reading. I mean come on, I feel like I’m being offered with the same things every time I read young adult books right now. But these kinds of books offer a different feeling. First Impression:
One of the greatest love stories of all time? Check. Flipping the so-called greatest love story on its butt? Double check. The idea that the tragic romance that is Romeo and Juliet is a complete lie instantly drew me to this tale. Plus, I loved the concept: lovers fighting a war for centuries to ensure (or destroy) the souls true lovers.

The classic love story of Romeo and Juliet is revisited in the haunting paranormal romance of good, evil and life and death. Juliet may have died on Shakespears stage but her soul has lived on as an Ambassador to good, she enters bodies of people and tries to connect them with their soulmat before her once star crossed lover Romeo gets to them and has one kill the other, just like he did to Juliet. Romeo is a Mercenary who's goal is to get to the soulmates before Juliet, convince one to kill the More...

Juliet Immortal- by Stacey Jay is definitely unique. I haven’t read a retelling on a story this good possibly ever. Everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet- the trouble is; they don’t know what really happened. People don’t know that Romeo tricked Juliet and now both suffer an immortal life on opposing sides of light and dark. (Yes, it is hard to explain. The reader sort of just needs to hold on for the wild ride) The story is interesting and complicated- depending on whose vantage poi More...

In modern day California, Romeo and Juliet meet again... as enemies. Juliet fights for true love, and Romeo fights against it. You see Juliet was actually murdered by Romeo, her new husband so he could become immortal. Little did he know, that her death would also give her the chance to become immortal. So now they've spent the last 700 years temporarily taking others bodies and, in Juliet's case, getting soul mates together, or in Romeos case, tearing them apart and causing the other to sacrfic More...

I had a hard time with Romeo and Juliet not being the main couple. I kept thinking something was going to happen, and they would ultimately get their happy ending. Especially when the chapters that were in his voice would mention how he could feel something for her. In his body that had no feelings, she could still make him feel. I liked Ben, but Benvolio and Juliet is just not the same.

Everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet. Two teenagers meet at a party, fall immediately in love, and three days later, both are laying dead in a tomb. Such a happy story. I really really liked this book. First off it's just a fun, interesting and well thought out alternative take on the story of Romeo and Juliet. But beyond that there is this great powerful message about love and transformation and principals and honor and self. I know some people have been bothered by the fact that Juliet, after learning a VERY harsh lesson about falling in love at first sight appears to do the exact same thing...but while she does fall in love very quickly with another boy, More...
