Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress is a cautionary tale about the causal relationship between marital emotional neglect and questionable choices. It is a warning for the spouse who wants to dismiss an affair as just sex or for any woman who thinks love is enough to keep a man that isn’t really hers.

“You never know what happens between two people when they are alone” is a commo

Let me preface this review with two confessions. First, I began Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress with some trepidation. Second, I was prepared, before I read the first line, to dislike Megan van Eyck. And while Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress surprised me on both counts, it was not an easy read.

The subject matter - - adultery - - is mature, it's highly emotional and everyone has an opinion on it. And Megan van Eyck pulls no punches in recounting an airport meeting that was intended to be a one-night
This memoir was captivating and I found myself feeling horrified not only at Megan's selfishness and blatant disregard for her marriage (and her lover's marriage), but also happy that she found love. I have a difficult time understanding how Megan could write this book and continue on in her marriage. How will this affect her children? How does her husband accept the betrayal of her infidelity and then worse, the betrayal of Megan writing a book about it?

Those thoughts aside, the story was defi
I have to fully agree with the product description above. This memoir totally blew me away. It was gut-wrenchingly honest, insightful, and very well written. Yeah, this book was published by the author through Create Space, but the memoir is a perfect example of how someone can publish a good story that delivers a powerful message and do it themselves rather than going through a traditional publisher. Oh, and the cover is beautiful, plus the back cover information is compelling and well put toge ...more

I have to admit, this book had me going. I also have to admire the honesty and sheer guts that van Eyck displays as she bares her very soul telling this story. It starts out simple, a conversation on a plane, but through a series of events at home, interactions with her distant and cold husband, and unique loneliness, she ends up in love with another man. The moral implications are far reaching and I am quite certain that this book will brew a storm of controversy.

When I purchased this a few years ago, I did so out of curiosity. I thought this would just be an affair full of sex, broken promises, etc. Well, I was wrong. What started out as a one-night stand turned into a 5 year relationship. Yes, it was wrong for both the author & her lover to commit adultery, continue lying to their spouses, not to mention once, but countless times over a 5 year span. While personally, I think it's wrong, I can understand both sides. I think every party involved (exc ...more
Megan wasn't out looking to have an affair. She just happened to meet Carlos on a airplane and they hit it off. Nothing happened at first, but then they got in contact with one another later.

Yes, Megan was married to Willem, but their marriage wasn't exactly perfect. She wouldn't have sought what she did from Carlos if it had been. Willem didn't really seem like he wanted much to do with Megan. She needed someone to love her, and he just wasn't giving it to her. I am not saying that I think it
Stephanie (StephTheBookworm)

This is Megan's true account of her five and a half year long affair with an older man, Carlos. Both were married and Megan had two kids. They met on a plane trip to Hawaii, exchanged numbers, and reconnected several months later when Megan's unhappy marriage continued to go downhill. They met for occasional discrete encounters at first, promising never to fall in love, but soon enough, they were madly in love with one another and stealing time whenever possible, even going on numerous trip
Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress is not your usual love story. Readers looking for a light love story will not find it with this book. It contains heavy issues and is a thought provoking read. Anyone who has been in a long-term relationship or marriage knows that you make decisions every day to stay faithful. This book describes the decisions that lead (on the parts of all the partners in the marriages) to the affair. Interestingly, the reader will walk in the shoes of the mistress. You learn of he ...more
What would you do if you found yourself in a cold, icy and indifferent marriage? What would you do if you met your soul mate, while married to a man whose relationship is barely even a friendship anymore? What would you do?

Megan van Eyck tells her story and answers those questions openly, honestly and with true heartfelt emotion and love, within her story, Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress. Ms. van Eyck's story will draw you in from the very beginning, drawing emotions from the reader and giving the
I was a little apprehensive about reading this book when I first received it. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect. After all, I’ve known women – and men – who have been caught up in similar situations. But I was curious. How was Megan going to describe this on-going relationship she lived with for more than five years?

I was, in fact, very surprised at how open and candid she was in the book. Here was a woman who continued to maintain a marriage at the same time as she “carried on” an illi
Reviewed for Author Exposure:

Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress provocatively and impressively mesmerizes the reader from start to finish. Without question, it is a powerful book that explores how life experiences, when left unexplored, may motivate a married woman to plunge into an extended affair with a married man she innocently encounters on a fateful flight home. Megan and Carlos were instantaneously attracted to each other, but neither personally felt

This book was fearlessly written. I am also an author whom writes in total bare skin. Life is not perfect, and a memoir should read as such, otherwise what is the point of the story even being told? Believing a person’s better life choice sometimes comes from reading about another person’s poorly executed one, helps all of us to persevere in an otherwise life that has many pitfalls along the way.

This was a horrible book. Repetitious and with no sense of purpose. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Boring.
