Lindsey Kelk is best known for her I Heart series; a trio of books adored by many chick lit readers. I read I Heart New York a few years ago and enjoyed the witty style of writing, but there was something about the plot that didn’t click with me. I found it quite unrealistic, and perhaps a bit too light and sugary, so I never got round to reading the rest of the series.

Even so, I still felt like Kelk was an author to look out for, and the synopsis for The Single Gi...more

Rachel Summers lives happily with her boyfriend of 5 years in their flat, thinking they will get married, have babies and live happily ever after; this is far from the case. Her boyfriend, Simon, says he wants 'a break' from their relationship, leaving Rachel completely shell shocked. Straight away one thing I did not like was how quick Rachel was to take him back after the way he treated her.
Anyway, in order to help her embrace single life, her two best friends Emelie and Matthew write her a l...more

My mother bought this book for me as a gift knowing that I share the same OCD tendencies to make to do lists as main character in this novel, Rachel. I was a bit hesitant about reading it though as although I'd loved Kelk's earlier novel, I Heart New York, I hadn't been quite so enamoured by I Heart Hollywood. I'm so glad that I did read this though because I loved it. The characters throw themselves into making the best single girl's to do list to help Rachel get through a break up, but the nov...more

So, I really just want to write my review as:

“Buy this book. Now.”

That’s how much I loved The Single Girl's To-Do List. I think I loved it even more than the I Heart series – shocking, I know – and it wasn’t just due to the fact that there was a little bit of a Toronto connection...

Rachel’s character captured my heart. I instantly related to her and rooted for her every step of the way while she mended her broken heart. Not a typical road to recovery consist...more

Rachel doet alles in haar leven volgens een to-do lijst.

I'd been having a bit of a dry spell where books were concerned, but I really enjoyed this book. I would have given this book 4 stars, it's just little things that kinda upset me. It might only be in the edition I was reading but I found a few typos and while it's not that big of a deal I still had to stop and wonder at it. (Unless those typos were British slang, but I'm still convinced snary was meant to be snarky).
I liked the sub characters as well, no two were alike so it was fun reading abo...more

I have read all of Lindsey Kelk’s books including her kindle book Jenny Lopez Has A Bad Week, and I have enjoyed every one of them. While I have patiently been waiting for the new I Heart book to come out I then heard that Lindsey Kelk was releasing another book called A Single Girls To Do List. I could not wait to read this one hoping it was going to be as good as her previous books.

PURE PLEASURE READ!
I would normally have rated this book 3 stars but I fell in love with it so much that I had to add an extra star.

Lindsey Kelk's The Single Girl's To-Do List centers around Rachel Summers whose life seems to be following the perfect check list. She has a great job, a great boyfriend and a great flat until suddenly she is dumped and finds her life turned upside down, unsure how to react or how to be single. With a little help from her two best friends Emelie and Matthew, she c...more

Last week I read a book that sounded promising but turned out to be a damp squib which never seemed to end.

This week, I (with one eyebrow cocked disdainfully) picked up the dodgy sounding, loaded with smarmy self-help undertones The Single Girls To-Do List and.....ate a large slice of humble-pie as I breezed through this totally addictive, feel-good read.

It’s the story of make-up artist Rachel Lulu Summers. 28-year old Rachel has just been brutally ditched by her supposedly stable boyfriend of...more

At nearly thirty years old, Rachel Summers feels like she's got the perfect life - a great boyfriend, a fab job, and a cozy flat. When her boyfriend decides to one day walk out on her, she feels she's left with nothing - after all, she hasn't been single for a very, very long time.

When I was reading the first half of this book, I considered giving it only two stars. However, near the end, something clicked and I decided to give it three. Maybe I'm just not into the whole typical 'chick-lit' gen...more

Rachel has a list for everything except how to live your life after being dumped by your boyfriend of five years. Luckily, this girl has two great friends. First is Matthew, who is a great guy but also gay. Her other friend is Emilie. They have known each other for many years and they are both there to help her survive the next few days. After many drinks at the Pub, they come up with the Single Girl's to do list. The list involves a few things Rachel wouldn't dream of doing, including bungee ju...more

My English review

My first 5 star review of 2012 and I now have another favorite author in the chicklit genre. Can't believe I'd never read anything by Lindsey Kelk before. Her style reminds me a bit of Marian Keyes in the earlier years, like Last Chance Saloon and Sushi for Beginners, but I digress.

The Single Girl's To-Do List was definitely a page turner. The writing flowed incredibly well and never while I was reading did I get bored, antsy or want to skip ahead.

Rachel (Raquel!) Summers was a great main chara...more

This book was exactly what I needed to be sitting on the beach reading for the past few days. I haven't read any of Kelk's books before, but I am considering hunting down the others. She is a very chick-lit writer, funny and easy to relate to. This story follows newly single Rachel, who has never really been single her whole life. She and her friends drunkenly come up with a list of ten things that she should do now that she can. As a result, Rachel is able to finally break herself from her 'bor...more

When Rachel Summers gets dumped by her boyfriend her best girlfriend Emilie and her best gay friend Matthew come to her rescue. Since Rachel loves making to do lists for everything, the three of them come up with another on. This specific list doesn't contain daily chores but is meant to make Rachel a different person who enjoys her life as a single woman.

This book is definitely a joy to read even though it took me a few chapters to get into it. This book is your typical chick lit because it is...more

I think this is what every woman (or at least I) dream of.
Completely taking charge or your life and changing it for the better!
I lived vicariously through the main character. I would love to get a new hair do and make up (for free, no less), spend a fortune on a new wardrobe (I seriously need new clothes - this post baby body needs some new garments!), start kicking ass and taking names, purchase and actually WEAR expensive lingerie, and travel with my best friends on a whim.

I first got to know more about Lindsey Kelk her books by the I heart series. The more stories I read from her, the more I liked her style of writting. Very easy to read, a real pageturner writter that gives each book the right amount of humor to keep you wanting for more.

I'm very happy I gave this book a chance, since it filled my days with lots of reading pleasure. From the very first chapture Lindsey knows how to make you fall in love with the characters. With each page you turn, you learn mo...more

SUMMING UP:
Rachel Summers gets dumped by her long-term bf and to get over it she and her bffs created a single girl's to-do list.
REVIEW:
I found the story a bit hard to follow at first cause of the brit slangs and huge amount of pop culture references. So Google will come in handy.
This isn't one of those "I-can't-put-down" books at first. The starting was slow and I was bored. But as it progresses I found it harder to stop reading. So you readers have to try your best to get pass the first few ch...more

Hilarious, gorgeous, honest and heart-breakingly sad. I loved every word on every page. This isn't a book where you want to skip even one sentence. Rachel is such a real girl in the real-wide-world. Her problems are funny and truthfully life like. Reading about how she goes through the break up and how she handles it with the help of her best friends makes me wish I had Matthew and Em whenever I fell into a deep dark hole of being ditched by a man you thought you would spend the rest of your lif...more

Actual Rating 3.5 Stars
A really enjoyable chick lit read.
The only reason it didn't quite make 4 stars for me was because I felt like it slowed down a bit in the second half of the book and there wasn't enough of the romantic interest.
The first half of the book was very fast paced and laugh out loud funny, had trouble putting it down. The second half of the book, while still funny, seemed to slow down a bit. I felt like I knew exactly where the story was going and I knew by that time that the mai...more

The novel is so feminist as Rachel stood up for herself and changed her ways. It was boring until the almost last parts because I was only waiting for what will happen to her relationship with somebody. There was a lot of extras and stuff that made it longer but those things just bored me.
Matthew and Em were really best portrayed as bestfriends for someone who has gone heartbroken. Right? Who couldn't agree?
Simon, being a cockweasel, will seriously regret his decision of dumping Rachel and goi...more

i loved this book, absofuckinglutely loved it. I realized how long it has been since i said something like this in a review....which makes me even happier :D
Okay plot wise, it wasn't anything new. The whole boy-dumps-girl-girl-changes-her-life-towards-a-better-her has all been done before, over and over again. Still, not the worst thing that you can read about.
The best thing however, is the protagonist. She is funny, sloppy, over thinker, underachiever, daydreamer and a lot of things i can rela...more

“I wasn't in love with Simon any more. I hadn't been in love with Simon for a long time. I was in love with not being on my own, with having someone there at the end of the day and now I knew I didn't need that.
