Now everyone who has ever used autocorrect (though autocorrect would much rather refer to itself as autoerect) must have experienced some of the mortifying situations described in this book..
Person 1: Sup, I'm at my place getting anal
Person 2: Dude naw
Person 1: Snack
Shit it autocorrects to anal inmeant snack. Dude that was the worst autocorrect mistake ever.
Person 1: I am soooo thirsty. Can you buy me a huge bottle of water on your way home?
Person 2: Yea. Of course. Why are you so thirsty?

Never would I thought that “Damn You, Autocorrect” by Jillian Madison (based on the website) would be so amazingly hilarious! I was downstairs with a friend, looking at books in our apartment complex’s book sharing library, and thought I’d open the book and see if some of the autocorrections in texts were funny.
They weren’t. They were RIDICULOUSLY HILARIOUS! Like laughing so hard I was literally crying.

We have all been there right? Sent that text without re-reading what it said and then end up in a very embarrassing situation? Yip of course anyone with a smartphone has due to that pesky Autocorrect feature (Sweep Texting in the UK).

Sometimes I need a quick mind cleanser between reading novels. I don't usually pick up books that are crafted out of websites or technology flaws, and though I read humor essays and memoirs, I don't usually pick up joke books. But this little gem kept me cracking up, literally LOLing with tears falling down my face, for the last couple of weeks. I don't always laugh when I think something is funny - sometimes it's just a nod or a smirk or a mental note to myself that, "hey, that was funny," but...more
I read a book named Damn you autocorrect and this made me realize what it is like to text because I have never texted before. People in this book type something then the autocorrect changes it to something crazy but hilarious. People don’t realize they did it until after they send the text because they are typing so fast that they don’t even know what happened. I personally don’t think that there is anything wrong with autocorrect because you’re phone is just trying to make life easier for you...more

This was a hilarious short read. I actually got tears in my eyes from laughing so much. There are awkward embarrassing texts to and from parents, mortifying autocorrects from co-workers, good natured ribbing from friends, and who knew cooking and food texts could be so funny?

Motherducker!!! Autocockblock sucks!

I recommend this to everyone except for children under the age of 15 (because of the foul words; never occurred to me that smart phones are also perv phones!) and people with heart diseases (they might accidentally have a heart attack because of too much laughing!) because all of us need a hearty laugh once in a while!
I think what made this book funny is the fact that it happened and is still happening to people withperv smart phones!

This is going to be a very short review. It was a very quick read and I really liked this book. I enjoyed the humour and the content was absolutely superb! I laughed out loud whilst reading this book and even my mom was wondering what was I laughing at.
I believe that most of us use smartphones and yes, I do have one too. Anyway, I don’t use autocorrect in my phone because I rarely (sometimes none) use English texting with friends and family. However, typo error is not an exception and it’s hard...more

This and Cake Wrecks both get the prize for making me laugh until I literally cry. I can't go to this web site at work any more, because I turn into a hysterically guffawing mess. That said, having the book around to dip into is a guaranteed pick-me-up for anyone who loves typos (especially from a software that seems to have a dirty mind) and the wit it takes to overcome them.

I think everyone gets to the stage where sometimes they just need to read something silly to clear out their brain, right? I was in that state when I was in Italy a few months ago, and ended up on damnyouautocorrect.com... So when I saw the book, I couldn't help but want to pick it up. Some of them I was familiar with already, and it is fairly mindless fun, but it is funny. From Freudian slips to surrealism, there's a whole world of badly autocorrected texts in here.

SHABAKA! I haven't laughed that much in I don't remember how long and there were parts that nearly drove me to tears (from laughing too hard). I really needed something like that - a light, non-complicated read that would keep me entertained. And it's only the third book this year to get the whooping 5 stars. Maybe it's no literary masterpiece but anything that is so ducking hilarious deserves a high rating. It's probably one of the few books that I'm inclined to go back to because there are suc...more

This is one of those books that it is perfect to dip in and out of when you don't have much time but you want something to make you giggle. My friend has a stack of this kind of book in her bathroom for people to flick through.
I'm sure that anyone who has ever used a phone with autocorrect will know the perils of sending a text without reading it first but hopefully most of us will never send messages quite as embarrassing as the ones in this book!

This book was hilarious. I hope they never ever get rid of autocorrect because it creates some incredibly funny moments! The texts are separated into chapters and as an example of each chapter, I will include the first text from each:
1. Parents Just Don't Understand (Awkward Texts with Mom & Dad)
>>>Your mom and I are going to divorce next month
<<>>>I wrote Disney and this phone changed it. We are going to Disney.
2. Love Gone Wrong (When Couples Text)

In this incredible and wonderful period of Smartphones, it is all very likely that humanity will look back on this time as the remarkable invention of the iPhone and the power and ability that was unleashed with this invention. And with this marvelous invention there was texting; and with this fantastic ability to text, there was . . . autocorrect. For those who aren’t in possession of an iPhone, or may not be familiar with it, one “perk” of the texting application is the autocorrect feature tha...more

I'll keep this short and sweet ~ most of the texts shown in this book are worthy of a chuckle or two. Maybe about, say, 65%. Give or take. About 20% are so damn funny I cried - numerous times - while reading them. As in, read a hilarious one and cry, stop, read another one, cray again, stop, here we go again, stop. Yeah. I'm for real. Then the other 15% or so didn't even belong.
IMO the hilarious ones, that 20% or so make the book worth getting and reading alone. I have to be honest though - I se...more

This book suffers from the same problem as the website: I can't read more than a few pages before I'm giggling so hard it's getting hard to breathe.
I was afraid this book would be something like F in Exams, a bit boring and making me think "I can find so much better examples online". Thankfully, that was not the case. I laughed just as hard.
The layout is good, keeping each conversation as it looked on a screen. The chapter division sometimes didn't make that much sense but it didn't matter, stil...more

Jillian Madison struck gold when she created a website for horrible auto-corrections from (not-so) smart phones. I love Damn You, Autocorrect! so I had to buy the book when it came out this week. It's a riot. I own a lot of humor books, and this one made me laugh on almost every page. I'm talking deep belly laughs that actually made my abdominal muscles a tad sore. The book is that good. Love the site? Get the book.
Well this was a giggle from start to finish, short book about the text messages we try to write and how the autocorrect feature on smart phones can change them before you get the chance to decide not to send! Had me laughing out loud on more than one occassion and my family thought I had lost the plot! I have been on the end of this experience a few times and know how cringe worthy it can be, from here on it I am reading my messages back before hitting the send button!!!
I know this book is not really worth special attention, but oh my God – I literally cried out of laugh while reading some of these. Do not read it in public – people might think you are crazy laughing out loud by yourself. My dad asked me like 30 times “Ok, what are you reading?!”
Yes, not all of them are that funny, and the book is nothing particularly unique, just some autocorrects, but it’s a good medicine for the bad mood.

I laughed out loud. A LOT. And I never meant to love this book.
Amazing. On one tiny screen (page) it's all there: the gaffe, the fallout, the recovery. A rare, victimless joke: because the banana peel is left out by a well-intentioned (or at least supposedly benign) piece of computer software. What's funny springs from chance and what happens is a shared humility. Humor at its profound and incisive best.

This book claims these autocorrect disasters are from real people, but I don't buy that. Too many of them seem to be the same person. Same witty comebacks, same grammar, same weird capitalization of the word "phone." I do not deny that some of it was pretty funny... but for the most part it was just repetitious.
The most I can say is that it at least occupied me while my car was being serviced.
There's some genuinely funny stuff here, but it's interspersed among a lot of other stuff that's on the level of being sort of amusing. On the whole, it was enjoyable without really knocking me out. It must have been amusing to the victims at the time, though, since "lmao" seems to be the most common reaction of autocorrect's victims here - it must appear in the book five hundred times. Maybe you had to be there, though, because only rarely was that my reaction.
This is like my go to website whenever I need a bit of cheering up. I don't know why but I always burst out laughing at the things auto correct does. I just can't help myself. So when I was browsing the books available to download at my library I came across this and had to check it out. I was literally in tears a few times, I was laughing so hard. So funny. If you need a good laugh check it out.

So funny! I can only think of one or two other books that made me laugh out loud as much as this one did. I love that it was just the texts, one or two per page and easy to read with no filler. That made it easy to breeze through whenever I had time and needed a laugh.
When I first got it, I had a neighbor borrow and finish it within a few hours because it was so hard to put down and as soon as I finished it, I passed it on to my family. Def...more

HILARIOUS. On purely a humor basis, I have to give four stars.
However, I have to say, I started suspecting these were not actual autocorrects in the Random Autocorrect chapter (who knows, and cites, the definitions for those wacky words?!). Nonetheless, even if they are made up, they are very funny. Definitely got a good ab workout from this one.
