Even five years before Nana and Paradise Kiss (some of Ai Yazaw's most popular works) Yazawa held the distinct style and tug-at-your-heart-strings way of storytelling. Although during this period in time, her talent is still a bit raw, there's no denying that Yazawa is the master at shojo manga.

Ai Yazawa (矢沢 あい ,Yazawa Ai, born 1967-03-07 in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese manga author. Her pen name comes from Japanese singer Eikichi Yazawa, of whom she is a fan.
