Nothing says "home" like being attacked by humans with very large guns, as Jane and Anyan discover when they arrive in Rockabill. These are professionals, brought into kill, and they bring Anyan down before either Jane or the barghest can react. Seeing Anyan fall awakens a terrible power within Jane, and she nearly destroys herself taking out their attackers.

Take a look at the Jane True series cast:

- a half selkie who constantly engages in conversations with her libido;
- an attractive shapeshifter with a rather canine sense of fashion;
- a powerful gnome who always carries her rocking chair with her;
- a kelpie named Trill who turns into a pony;
- a satyr with a loincloth problem;
- a former porn star turned lesbian heiress socialite;

if you feel the corners of your mouth turning up by now, the Jane True Series might be just the thing for you.

Odd. So Goodreads totally deleted this book from my shelf.... so I'm just re-adding it and my review.

Alright, it’s official. I love Nicole Peeler. There, I’ve said it. I’m SO glad that I finally got off my ass and read her Jane True series because it is truly a wonderful, hilarious, hell of a good time series.

The Storyline

In the fourth installment of the Jane True series, after an altercation with a group of humans who attacked Jane and Anyan, Jane uses a power against them that no on...more

Waking from a month long comma, Jane finds her peaceful small town in turmoil. Weird things are happening in Rockabill and when Nell and Anyan get taken out of commission by a nasty spell, it’s up to Jane and her new friend Blondie to get to the bottom of it all (literally). Be prepared for non-stop ass kicking action, lots sexual frustration, and as always snarky and humorous dialogue (internal and external).

This fourth book I felt it was a bit different from the others in the sense that it was...more

Jane has been busy since we last read the Tempest's Legacy. A month has since passed and Jane and Anyan have been searching high and low for those responsible for killing Jane's mother Mari. Now that Jari and Morrigan have been exposed for what they truly are--conniving and loathsome beings that were responsible for killing off half-breeds--it’s only a matter of time before things come to a final conclusion.

Yes, Anyan and Jane are together and that assha...more

I was so looking forward to this book and it's just a huge tease!! That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it because I did. Jane and Anyan just got home from their last huge fight and get attacked again leaving Jane in a coma for a month. When she finally comes out of it, not only does she have to play catch up but she finds out strange things are happening in the town. This, of course, leaves NO time for her and Anyan. And then "something" happens and there is absolutely NO time for her and Anyan.

I love Jane True. It is such a fun series.
The details of each story really add a lot to keeping me reading this series.
Jane's character has progressed and grown with all her experiences.
Jane True is back. We learn a new side of Jane in this book.
I like this new part of Jane. Jane has grown and has to be more independent.
I like when a character can have a new aspect that lets the books grow in a new direction.

Nicole Peeler's latest release, Eye of the Tempest, totally lives up to the rest of the series. I love the Jane True novels! They are witty and fun to read! Jane is not your ordinary character, she's not a leather-wearing kickass heroine, she's a selkie heroine. She's average, yet still an amazing heroine and I love going back to her world time and again!

I totally love how Nicole writes as well. Jane is the ultimate snarky heroine! The language even has snark and wit to it as Jane tells us what'...more

Fourth in the Jane True urban fantasy series about Jane, her friends, and their stumbling adventures in fighting the bad guys in Rockabill, Maine.

My Take
This is a bridge novel setting us up for the adventures in Tempest's Fury .

Hide the milkbones. Jane is in almost constant conflict between her libido and her virtue. And it's just too funny to read. Considering what a sheltered life she's led, there's something to be said for the value of reading...ahem…

Start of the book was not so great, but then book take same fast action, comedic and intresting phase where I have grown used in Nicole Peelers previous books.

Jane True is not typical paranormal heroine, but she is really independent woman who can make her own decisions and these independent thoughs are not typical I disagree with male lead and then realises during book that male lead was right. Nicole Peeler makes much more intresting plot twist as she make male lead to be cursed as dog most of...more

Quick & Dirty: A tense race to find out what is stirring beneath Rockabill before the bad guys do. This book is progressively more serious than the rest of the series, but still delivers all the jokes and jabs we expect from Jane and her friends.

Opening Sentence: I awoke slowly, languorously, my still-mostly-sleeping brain registering surprise when my nose smooshed into soft leather rather than sheets.

The Review:

This is the fourth book in the Jane True series by Peeler. This book was less romance and more urban fantasy than the previous books. I really enjoyed it and am intrigued by some of the turns the story takes.

Jane is trying to catch her breath from all of the events that happened in the last book. Then strange things start happening in the town of Rockabill. Random people (normal and supernaturals alike) start spouting strange warnings without realizing it and some of the baddies we've all grown...more

This book couldn't come soon enough for any Anyan fans (like me), because this is the one where we get some Anyan sex ..... or so I was hoping. But Nicole Peeler is a little tease in her writing, every time Jane (and I) get to close to some Anyan sex, we get interrupted! And oh boy, there's a good lot of Anyan in this book which pleases me to no end.

I had totally forgotten how funny Nicole's writing was. With Jane describing her fantasy of humping Anyan's kitchen stove (which sounds like me a bi...more

Eye of the Tempest by Nicole Peeler stars Jane True, a half silkie. Jane has a destiny that even she is unsure she is ready for. Jane and and her friends are being led to fight a war. A war bigger then even Jane herself can imagine. When a powerful and ancient being, with the power to destroy half of the eastern sea board (and possibly the world), awakes Jane must use her gut and heart to decide what is the right path. Her friends and family are in danger and she must be the one to protect them....more

My thoughts: If you're at all interested in publishing, or maybe even if you aren't, you'll have heard people talk about author "voice" before. Like many people, I didn't quite get it, but Nicole Peeler has it, in spades. I started following her on twitter a couple of months before I got the first book (Tempest Rising), and as soon as I started the book, I could see it - the writing is so totally Nicole. The way she talks on twitter is the way she writes in the books, and I love it. I haven't re...more

uhm, I don't know why I didn't review this book when I read it last month.....damn, now I gotta remember what I thought of it.

(view spoiler)[there was allllmmmmooossstttt a steamy sexy scene with Anyan, but of course gets interrupted again. Not sure I liked the ending with all the old creature thing, but it was kinda cool. (hide spoiler)]

Okay, so Jane and Anyan get attacked. They figure out who Blondie is and they have to find these ancient places before the scary killing crew finds them all so...more

Can I give it a 3.5 stars? It was good, but not as good as the first three.

I'm happy to report that this book continues to be as interesting and charming as the previous books. I was concerned in the beginning that
Jane's emotional state seemed to spike between devastated about her mother's horrible death and then extremely horny within a couple paragraphs, but then considering what she had been through in the previous book, an emotional roller-coaster wouldn't be too far-fetched. The aftermath...more

I'm not entirely sure what it was about this book, but for me it wasn't as addicting as the previous one in the series. I still enjoyed Jane being more assertive and she's definitely come into her own, but this book felt as though something was missing.

There was no shortage of action, and though the story took a few twists, for the most part it wasn't quite so shocking come the end. I definitely felt the lack of supporting characters in this book. Jane is a wonderfully entertaining character all...more

I loved the first 3 of these books which may have caused me to be a bit harder in my rating of this one. I still like the characters and the world that NP has created but I felt that this book suffered from too much happening in a very short space of time in one place. Also, I do understand the need for suspense but the fact that the main characters sexual relationship is postponed over and over again just got dull, I got it the first time, I didn't need the extra reminders or the constant refer...more

Ok, there's not some cave disco dance with bats going on no matter what the cover may look like.

I liked this book but not as much as the others and I think that's because although there's a lot of "dirty" talk going on there's really no out-and-out action. Just lots of teasing including the last two or three pages which I found very frustrating. Not that I live vicariously through the books I read (riiiight), it's just that I'm concerned for the fictional male character's health. That's it, I'm...more

Okay, Jane continues to grow in this book, while still being an amazingly down to earth character. While there were some parts of this book that I didn't enjoy as much as the last one, it continues to be a fun series and a great storyline.

(Also I agree with Jane's Libido - That hair pulling thing is just HOT) I'm enjoying watching the development of her relationship with Anyan. Their scenes are sexy, without being over the top. And the element of humor makes them more realistic to me.

This fourth book takes place right after the third book ends. Jane and Anwyn make it back to Rockabill but are shortly attacked by gun toting humans. Anwyn is badly injured and is about to be killed when Jane tries a magic attack that wipes her out, for a month. When she awakes she finds out that her small town is awash with signs and portents. Jane and her friends must figure out what is going on before the bad guys do and life as she knows it will end.

I enjoyed this one more then the previous...more

Another great entry in the Jane True saga. What I like best about this series is the skilled storytelling. Dr. Peeler crafts a really good tale for each book and has a clear plan for the series as well. It's just tremendous fun to sit back and watch Nicole do her thing, she writes these books that are just wonderfully good fun on the surface but that are also really thoughtfully designed and smart. The series has a clear plan, it isn't like some that just sort of bumble along with the heroine ju...more

I am so sick of the author's use of the word libido. After putting up with it for 3 previous books, this time I decided to actually keep count of how many times she used it in book 4. Forty-five. I'm not kidding. Ms. Peeler, here are some synonyms I looked up for you in the online version of Roget's 21st Century Thesaurus: eroticism, lust, passion, sex drive, sexual desire, sexual urge, sexuality, and the hots. Ironically, no one actually had any sex in this book.

I'm not sure if I'm out-growing...more

Wow, Jane True is a badass. This book was an action-packed, funny, sexy, thrill ride. To borrow from the Incredibles, "That was totally wicked!"

Jane and Anyan are still in the middle of Jarl and Morrigan's tangled web. When Anyan is taken down by some humans, Jane lets loose a fury and ends up putting herself in a month-long coma. During this time, Blondie comes into the picture and Jane's dad is firmly introduced to the supernatural world of Rockabill.

Jane makes a lot of discoveries about her t...more

This series has totally turned itself around and is headed in a very good direction. Though there were some touch and go moments for me in this installment. The first 40 pages were very cringeworthy, in a 'ok I get it you have an oversized libido' kind of way! Me Tarzan, you Jane.. no I am smart enough to register the first time you said you do, no need for the caveman boinking me on the head!

The book was paced perfectly from there on out. With some decidedly decadent scenes via Anyan and then...more

Eye of the Tempest was another fast paced instalment in this fantastic series.

Jane accidentally short circuits herself when she pulls the water from several human beings to protect Anyan during an attack. It kills the men, and it nearly kills her as well. When she wakes up, a month has passed and strange occurrences are becoming more frequent in Rockabill.

Jane once again had me in fits of laughter; her trademark libido vs. virtue monologue is absolutely hilarious. Jane is growing as a character;...more

Nicole D. Peeler is off on another adventure! This time, she’s moving to Pittsburgh to teach in Seton Hill’s MFA in Popular Fiction. Yes, folks, she’ll be mentoring up and coming urban fantasists as they try to break into the publishing world. Or, as she likes to call it, “infecting them with her madness.” In the meantime, she’s still writing Urban Fantasy for Orbit Books and taking pleasure in wh...more
