This is one I picked up at a library book sale. I think it caught my attention because there was a more recent book by the same author that really looked great (The Bone Vault), but was hardcover and was clearly a part of a series. So, seeing this one for 25¢, I figured, why not? Definitely worth the quarter, even if it turned out to be the second in the series. I really liked Alex Cooper, New York prosecutor extraordinaire, as well as her cohorts in investigation (Chapman and Mercer and...more

Prosecutor Alex Cooper gets involved in a high profile case of the murder of Dr. Gemma Dogen, a neurosurgeon, which takes place in the oldest and largest hospital in NYC.
With so many possible suspects (patients, collegues, transients living in the underground tunnels), Det. Mike Chapman and Alex illicit the help of a friend, policewoman Maureen Forester, to act as a decoy to catch the killer.

2nd in the Alex Cooper series. Not great. 1st one was better. "A prominent woman neurosurgeon is sexually assaulted and stabbed in her own mid-Manhattan medical center office. Heroine Alexandra Cooper, who heads the Manhattan D.A.'s sex crimes unit, and her team of homicide detectives banter comically to cheer themselves as they winnow through witnesses, including transients who swarm the tunnels beneath the hospital and roam hospital corridors, snatching lab coats and trays of food."

Linda Fairstein's mysteries are a solid bet, especially if you skip the hard copy and listen to Barbara Rosenblat's audiobook narration. I love Mike, Mercer, and Alex and their Jeopardy challenges. They are not the best mystery series I've read, but they are old dependable favorites.

I really enjoy Linda Fairstein's Alex Cooper novels. I like the personal experience she brings to the novels, I like the relationship between the main characters: Alexandra Cooper, Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace, and I like the history of New York that encompasses every novel.

This is the second of Fairstein's books I've read, and I'm finding that I enjoy them more than Patricia Cornwell's because of the NYC setting. I just can't imagine how she finds time to write, given that she's also the head of NYC's sex crimes prosecution unit!

I think that the audio cassette that I listened to was abridged - it was only 2 cassettes long.
I sure like this series. There's suspense, there's humor, there's a story that doesn't require you to leave your brain at the door.

The author is a sex crimes reporter, so she certainly has the background knowledge to write this book. The book has interesting doctor and police jargon that I enjoyed reading. But the ending is abrupt and disappointing.

As I got into this story more, I found it hard to keep up with all the characters the author inserted.
While it might be a great story, I was bogged down by too much detail.

#2 in her series of light murder mystery novels. This was better than the first one (as you would expect) and was good enough to entice me to get #3 for my next vacation/airplane/trip read.

These are pretty good mysteries... not classical literature by any chance, but well-written books if you want to read a good story and not have to think too much...

This is another great legal thriller from Linda Fairstein, the second one in the series. Great action, nice drama and a good steady pace.

This falls into the category of mystery that I like - will continue to read all these in the series.

This woman's writing is incredible. Death Dance is still my favorite, but she's amazing.
