I love this book. It's marvelous. It's a little girl's "I'm really a princess in hiding?!" fantasy with a real-world edge. The prince doesn't whisk the willing princess away on horseback, waving to fawning crowds. Oh, no. This prince hefts the reluctant princess over his shoulder (ingloriously) and stomps away with her, taking secret backroads and dodging rebels and traitors on his way to the palace. Evangeline spends 3/4 of the story shouting "It's not me! It's not me! You've got the wrong one!...more

I'm a little ashamed that I even picked this book up in the first place. But it was there, it was free, and I needed something to read.

Given that this kind of book, a romance, isn't generally my style, it was difficult to get into with my pausing every few minutes to stifle my giggling. I will say that I would have had to put the book down if there were the words "heaving bosom" in there anywhere.

Also taking into consideration the time period this book was written in, I had to stifle my inner Al...more

Runaway Princess could have been really good. It should have been really good.

Evangeline is squandering her small, ill-gotten inheritance on a day spa and living like a princess. Apparently she's doing such a good job that she actually gets mistaken for a princess by Crown Prince Danior of Bamania, who believes that she's his betrothed from the land of Serephina.

...Serephina? Really? You seem to have Anne Bishop syndrome, also known as not-even-trying-itis.

Danior is not happy that she has put hi...more

I know this book is Fictional, but the so called "Heroine" is so completley STUPID that I had to put the book down 3 times and force myself to finish it!!!! Come on C.D., I know there has to be some conflict and drama, but really!!!!

There is lot of lack of realism throughout the story and Im not referreing to the milennia old nun!! The female character Evangeline is simply an idiot who by the way,did amazing feats things - like descending a cliff- simply from reading about how to do it. Evange...more

This book was about as silly as you expect from a romance novel, and no sillier; the names of the countries the main couple are meant to rule are pretty ridiculous, but she hangs a lampshade on that, so at least it isn't just played straight. The author does a good job of keeping you guessing as to whether or not the female protagonist is a princess, and the whole thing is a lot less cliche than it really ought to be. Some of the twists you see coming, but they really only serve to distract you...more

This was the second time I read this book. I liked it the first time I read it, and I liked it this time too.

The heroine is an orphan living it up on an inheritance, having a bit of an adventure in the Pyrenees before she goes back to England and opens a bookstore. Then she is plunged into an adventure when she is mistaken for a runaway princess, by the prince, no less. The one the princess is supposed to marry. There are daring escapes, smoldering looks, rescues, banter, explosions, double ente...more

This is the first of Christina Dodds books that I have read, and I really enjoyed it and will definately be ferreting some more out more.

It is about Evangeline Scoffield of East Little Teignmouth Cornwall, who whilst seeking adventure gets mistaken for a princess of a remote European country and dragged back there by the prince of the neighbouring country so they can marry. I know the story sounds quite far fetched and a little silly, however; it was an enjoyable read with some funny moments. My...more

The Kindle edition of this book had some problems. I noticed several instances of the word "will" being replaced with "wifi" - it may have been every time. There were also lots of random periods added in the middle of words. "Strength of ten men" became "strength often men," the word "in" became the letter "m". These technological / editing errors did not help what I found to be a weak story with characters that were really more caricature than characters. So, it gets 2 stars, because I did fini...more

Super sweet story with a true fairy-tale ending! Loved the heroine with her intelligence, strength, and cunning. The hero started out a little too staunchly, conservative, and rather boring and predictable, but he grows on you. The heroine is a much stronger, more interesting character with more depth. She carries the interest of the reader much more than her counterpart. Still the drama, the action, the romance is sparkling enough to make up for any deficiencies in character of the hero. It end...more

Had a bit of a shaky start with this book. When I picked it up the first time, I only made it 1/3 of the way through it and then put it down again for a couple of months. I decided it fit into a 'challenge' so I started the book again - and I enjoyed it! I'm not sure if I'll read the next in the series though which is why it is only 3 stars...

I always enjoy Dodd's novels and this one didn't disappoint. I kept going back and forth trying to decide if Evangeline was really the princess or not. I like a book that keeps me guessing. It had adventure, political intrigue and, of course, romance. I appreciate the way Dodd ended it, no cliches for her.

Any book where the 'hero' doesn't stop when the heroine says STOP doesn't count as a romance, in my opinion. I found his lack of respect for her, his constant refusal to believe her, and his running rough-shod over her wishes throughout the entire book (not just relating to sex) disgusting.

I downloaded the library ebook thinking this was another book by a different author and as it was the only book available on my ereader at the dentist, I was stuck with it. The plot was obvious, the characters flat but it passed the time while waiting for my mouth to numb in the dentist chair.

I loved this book. The two main characters are wonderful. This is the second time I've read this book and the story was just as entertaining and fun as the first time! I will read it again in a couple of years. I save my favoutites so I always have great books to read.

This is one time I wish there was a rating between stars (2 and 3/4 maybe!)The book wasn't necessarily bad, it just wasn't good. I tried to figure why and decided it was because the writing just wasn't good enough to draw my emotions into the characters plight. If I'm not somehow invested in their story it just becomes... well, boring.

The Runaway Princess by Christina Dodd (6/10)
Romance. Good light reading for when I didn't feel up to reading much, but certainly not the greatest thing ever.

The story is interesting. A Cinderella story indeed, but I can't help that I love those wicked stories^^

A flaw that I found with my bad English was the words that Dodd picked for the story. A bossom? What's that?!

Is a really good story but the heroine spend the hole book running from the princess and getting into trouble just because she can spend 5 minutes trying to explain why they are mistaking.

I love this book. I got swept away with the story. /it was a bit Cliche to startwith, but one you got into it, it was great. The ending has a slight twist that i really enjoyed.

One of my favorite stories by Christina Dodd. I just love all the trouble Evangeline gets herself into and how Danior is always there to rescue her.
Tiffany
while I dont like her old English stories as much as the more modern ones, still good characters and twists

I believed the whole Runaway Princess idea however why didn't Evangeline explain her life prior to being eleven to explain why she wasn't the princess? She kept saying how her parents were dead, how she was rescued from an English orphanage, but nothing more. I know it would ruin the misunderstanding, but it seems like a logical subject to discuss, and they never did. It obviously bothered me for most of the story, especially when I could already determine Evangeline was not the princess.

This story was just okay for me. I'm usually a fan of Ms. Dodd. I think I found the Princess too annoying.

Every once in a while I read a romance novel just to remind myself how utterly stupid they are.

Read in digital format for Readers' Advisory, part of the challenge to read past my usual genres.

Very cute book. The story was very good. Some really funny parts in the book.

This is the first romance I've read in years. Good story for those that like fairy tales.
Jennifer
Didn't even finish this. Evangeline's helplessness really grated on my nerves.

Readers become writers, and Christina Dodd has always been a reader. As she was growing up, she read everything, but discovered, because she likes humor, that she liked romance best. In romance, the relationship between one man and one woman holds center stage, and that’s always good for a laugh.

A woman wants things like world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on m...more
