I found this at the library and decided to check it out. I don't watch the TLC show but I've caught parts of it while surfing the channels and I admit to a weird curiosity. Also they live here in Arkansas too. Though we are in totally different parts of the state. Growing up I didn't want to be a doctor or lawyer or even an actress or singer. I wanted to be a mom. Fate chose differently for me, however. I actually enjoyed reading their beliefs and philosophies in raising their family. I think I

Admittedly, the first third of the book had me in tears. Most of the beginning of Michelle and Jim Bob’s second book deals with the scary circumstances surrounding Josie’s birth and the difficulties of a preemie in the following months. My situation wasn’t the same, but my husband and I lost our first baby boy at 26 weeks, and the Duggars’ story reminded me of that frightening time in my own life.

What can I say about the Duggars? Seeing their family on TV was a factor (one of many) that led my wife and I to the belief of allowing God to control how many children we had (seven so far, for the curious). For a long time that was how I thought of them: They trusted God with their fertility and it all seemed to work out well for them. We share many (though not all) conservative Christian beliefs with them, so they were a nice family on TV we could relate to.

Just to clarify my 5 stars, it is not because it was a well written book. They back tracked and flashed forward and retold some of the same things. However, what it contained was really great stuff. It is nice to have these parents share all their secrets in raising children since, who could know better? They have had a lot of practice and they have obviously raised very respective, kind, full of personality children. I my not agree with all their convictions but I love that they are so str

Am I a little embarrassed to admit that I just read this book? Yes, but I'm fessing up to it anyways. Since I am now well aware that the Duggars do not surf the web lest it "destroy souls with instant, unlimited access to all sorts of immorality" I feel safe to proceed with my review.
Just to be clear, I think this family is crazy, yet I'm strangely drawn to their tv show. I think it's my pure fascination as to why someone would want to have that many kids, and how they mai More...

The Duggar family is one of those families that everyone seems to have an opinion on. Either people think they are crazy for having so many children or they think that how they run their family is borderline child abuse (older kids taking care of younger kids) or they say "more power to them". A Love That Multiplies has cemented my decision on which bench I sit.

I'm an adult who is the oldest of five siblings, and I've always wanted to have a family of a similar size. A 5-kid group sounds like a massive family to most everyone that I've met, but for us it's natural. We wouldn't want to have one brother or sister less--every person is unique and wonderful, and our lives are richer for having each other. The Duggars of TLC's show 19 Kids and Counting feel the exact same way about their kids, except that they have four times as many kids as my family! This

This book is a wonderful resource for tools on how to make a big family work. I gleaned so many inspiring parenting concepts as well as homeschooling ideas from this book. They are great examples of how to truly appreciate your children, love them, teach them (especially through biblical teachings) and all around just raise 'em the right way- which is getting increasingly more difficult in today's world! I love the Duggars!

I have to admit, I watch the Duggars' TV show. So I was pretty interested to read this book. I tend to find the Duggars' religious beliefs a bit extreme, and there is certainly a lot of preaching in this book. It does make sense though, as their religion is their whole life. The first section of this book covers Michelle's pre-eclampsia and Josie's emergency delivery. There's not really anything new there if you have seen their TV show.

I have read their first book and this one is also fantastic. I love the Duggar family. They have such great values and are so reachable as down-to-earth people. I am learning many things that I can apply in my own (albeit smaller) family.
They give great practical tips, recipes and encouragements to other people who want to live a happy, self-sufficient life. The ideas they offer are tried-and-true and are not too complicated--they can't be as they have to do what works in order to suc More...

I honestly didn't expect to like this book so much, which in retrospect was pretty dumb b/c I watch (and like) '19 Kids & Counting' and I'm a born-again Christian and from what I gather watching the show our beliefs are quite similar (minus the 'no bacon' - what is with that?!). It was good to see the "full story" -- TLC only shows so much of the Duggars spiritual life, and while yes, it's obvious from the show that they are Christians, and their faith is mentioned here & there...this

A lot of people talk smack about the Duggars because they have such a large family. Personally I can't imagine having that many children, nor do I desire it. However, I love their morals and values. I love the lifestyle they provide for their children. I really enjoyed this book, even if it was difficult to follow at times. Having two authors was confusing at times, because they kept switching who was narrating and there wasn't always much warning - at times you had to guess who was talking. The

I love this family! I realize that not everyone may feel a connection to them, but I definitely do! I just have so much respect for the choices they have made and the wisdom they have gained over the years. And despite the differences in our religions, we do share one common belief which touches every aspect of our lives... God's love. How to feel it for yourself and how to share it with others. In this book Jim Bob and Michelle share their ideas on raising a family- how they make it work and h

This second book by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar continues to lay to rest some of the rumors swirling about this ultra conservative Christian family. As an example, they are not “Quiver Full” as sited on various Internet sources. The Duggars graciously continue to meet their critics with a joyful smile and a quiet confidence, knowing that whatever they’re doing, it’s working for their family.

I got a lot of great homeschooling ideas from this book. I love how they teach their children about character. I've had success in my own home with some of the ideas that the Duggars have in this book. It's an easy read and easy to flip through to find what you want.

I know only of the Duggar's from an article printed some time ago in a magazine just before their 19th child, Josie was born prematurely. Like many others I was amazed at the size of their family and curious as to how they 'make it work'. Their TV show isn't on in Australia (as far as I know) so this book is really my introduction to the family.

I read this out of order, as the first book was not yet available from the library. They refer to the first book quite often, so I would suggest picking that up first.
It was a nice peek inside their lives, especially during the premature birth of their 19th child. Many of their tips and parenting techniques seem useful, and I can't argue with trying to have a peaceful, happy family with no yelling and using biblical principles to guide decisions. The recipes were nice too!

Good book but not as good as their first one. This book starts with the scary preemie arrival of Josie but then repeats much of what is in the first book.
The Duggars make a great point of how they have had many challenges (deaths of parents, Josie's birth) but, through their faith, have made it through and thrived.
A quote they shared from a friend: "God's will is what we would choose if we knew all the facts."

I loved how unafraid to talk about there faith and family life the Duggars are, and it was deeply reflected in this book. I loved learning more about there amazing family, and was nothing but impressed when I finished the book. I find raising three kids under the ages of 2 1/2 a challenge but this book gave me a huge boost in confidence knowing that Michelle Duggar has a lot more on her plate than me and is managing to stay sane! People can say what they like about them....I admire their courage

Another clear look into the life of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's remarkable family. This tome starts with the harrowing story of their latest child's early entry into the world (#19 Josie).
Having just read their first book, I appreciated how the Duggars avoided repeating themselves as much as possible. While the first book focused on the story of how they became the large family they now are, this one focuses more on how they manage their current everyday life this time.

Do you watch the show? I am going to let you in on a few things here in this post: for one, I do. Usually I get to catch it on the DVR so I skip commercials. My wife and I do not have nearly the number of kids they do; we just have eight, but we share many similarities and I found for once that reading non-fiction is not a chore. Do I agree with everything in this book? No, it isn’t made to be that way. My wife read it also and I think the best thing to come from reading this book is the dialogu

This book was such a great read. I find myself fascinated by the Duggars but not in a creepy way... in a way where I would love to continue learning about how they live their Christian lives and the reasoning behind their parenting decisions. Their decisions are deliberate and Bible based. I know they aren't perfect and they are willing to point that out throughout the book. They also offer hope for other imperfect parents and give strategies for changing your parenting ways. In addition th

I have mixed feelings about the Duggars but the more I read and watch their show, the more I tend to really like them. While I don't think I could handle that many children, they really do a good job and have very well behaved children. I like that they aren't afraid to talk about and live their faith.

In this book, both Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar take turns sharing about their lives as parents to 19 children. This is a sequel to their book The Duggars: 20 and Counting! I read that book a couple of years ago when it came out. This book talks about their life in the past few years since the first book was published. In it they tell about the premature birth of their 19th child, Josie who was born 3 and a half months early, at 12 inches long, weighing 22 ounces. This was because Michelle h

My book I am reading is called “A Love That Multiplies” by Jim bob and Michelle Duggar. My favorite part of the book is everything. This book is the author’s 19 kids and all of the kids are really religious. (Oldest to youngest) Josh, Jana, John David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joyanna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johanna, Jenifer, Jordan, and Josie. They just had the 19th baby 4 ½ months early and just found out that she is lactose and tolerant and she is get

A Love That Multiplies: An Up-Close View of How They Make it Work, is the second book written by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. This one has more words and less pictures than The Duggars: 20 and Counting!: Raising One of America's Largest Families—How They Do It, but it’s not written any better and still has a lot of the same annoying traits (e.g. switching between narrators without warning, and including random photos and recipes in the middle of often serious stories).

I am embarassed to say that I not only read this book, I also paid for it, but I need to meet my Goodreads challenge goal for 2011, and even the embarassing books have to be counted. I can't explain my fascination with the Duggars. They are about the polar opposite of me in every possible way: I'm a feminist, pro-choice Catholic, I believe in evolution, I do not think the Bible is the literal word of God, I have absolutely no interest in evangelizing to others, I believe that gay people should b

Some have review this book as preachy or if you have seen the show there is nothing new. I disagree on both parts.
The bible verses they use in the book are used factually and explain why they believe in something. I, being not religious at ALL, thought it was quite informative. No matter what your personal beliefs are, you do have to admire them for how they raise their children. Every one of them serves their community and help others, without being asked.
