My first yaoi! Aww. Here are my thoughts, which I’m sure you are dying to hear. ;-)
I…liked it? But didn’t love it? I mean, it’s very cute, but it’s so…well, immature. There’s an aside from the author at one point where she says, “Well, this is really a girls’ comic, anyway” and…yeah. That’s the problem for me. It’s clearly written with teen girls in mind, and while I must say that Japanese teen girls are TOTALLY AWESOME if this is what they like, I think I’ve outgrown it. Ryo and Dee...more

Oh man, this series. There are pretty much no words for my love of it. I remember reading it when it first came out about eight years ago and loving it so much that I somehow managed to convince my dad to buy the last volume of it (which was wrapped in plastic to protect innocent eyes) without him actually know what it was about. I recently decided to reread a novel that I loved around the same time, and decided to dig this series out from under my bed for a reread to see if all of my taste was ...more
This is an illustrated story that reads back to front about two young male officers recently partnered up who are painfully attracted to each other. Dee is out and doesn't care who knows it (though he claims he's "bi") while Ryo is much more innocent and confused by his feelings. With Dee in the lead, he creates some cute, sexy, comical situations and steals a kiss from Ryo whenever and wherever he can. The two must fight drug lords and deal with young delinquents. The dialogue between...more
I think my first shounen-ai was Only The Ring Finger Knows so FAKE came along quite later on in my manga obsession.
The story is catchy, the characters amusing to get along with, and although seven volumes is quite short in manga terms, Sanami Matoh did a terrific job at spreading Dee and Ryo's relationship over in this number as, unlike most yaois, she didn't just cram it into one volume or oneshot, so we got to see the characters' flaws and insecurities more and more over time. I have a cold and so am feeling a bit sorry for myself and something that always makes me feel better is FAKE. Then I realised that I've never reviewed this series here so here we go...
Randy 'Ryo' MacLean joins NYPD's 27th precinct and is partnered with Dee Laytner, and so begins an epic 'will they? won't they?' romance with Dee chasing Ryo, but Ryo holding back, all while they are solving crimes together.
Why do I love it? Because Dee and Ryo are so clearly attracted to each other despite Ryo's ...more

I think the only reason i held out on reading this one was the art. In the first volume, at least, the art has a bit of an old-style feel to it, it's not the same as many of the newer manga. But i am soooooo glad i got over that and read it.
This series is amazing! I'm absolutely in love with it and i'm not even finished yet. I'm a big yaoi fan but i think that even if i wasn't i would still enjoy reading this.

I love Fake so much. It's another one of my favorite m/m manga. The story involves Ryo and Dee, two cops who have just been assigned as partners. Dee is headstrong and boisterous while Ryo is much more laid-back and quiet. Dee develops feelings for Ryo and pretty much makes advances towards him for quite a bit of the series. The stories are your typical cheesy manga stuff but Dee and Ryo's relationship is really cute. It's an older series with some aged art inside but it's still well worth a rea...more
Complete in English at seven volumes.
This manga started a whole new chapter in my life. I love this series. I don't care that the write up for it is so dismally bad--two cops with an attraction for action...and each other!
I love FAKE, and I, like so many of brethern, have been dropped into a whole new world of fangirling because of it.
The art style is steady and smooth and the developing relationship is fun, funny, and sexy as all get out.

Thoroughly enjoyable. This first volume is a lot about character development, although there is a fair bit of action too!
Ryo is sweet and smart, steady and (mostly) even-tempered. Dee is brash and aggressive, but is just the kind of partner you would be glad to have at your back! Add the smart mouthed and street-wise Bikky and the stage is set for the further adventures of...!
Less one star because I have been spoiled for art work.

Oh my god I didn't think this would actually be on goodreads but it is!! This is my all time favorite manga ever and I suggest this to anyone whose into BL, especially with police, action, suspense, and comedy. This series has it all and every time I think of cops, I automatically think of Ryo and Dee. This is a must read for any BL lover!
I really like this manga because it was sweet and the characters weren't unrealistic like in some mangas because usually the characters can be corny. I like these types of books but I don't recommend it for people who don't enjoy gay relationships since the two main characters are homosexual (there is no sex in it).
Ohoho, definitely one of my all-time favourite BL mangas. =^^= I recommend it to all BL readers.
There isn't anything hard-core (I don't like that), but the fluffiness with much obstacles and a tinge of angst meshes very well together.
It has a very solid plot too, so if all this interests you go and read this!

This is a series close to my heart, since it was the first yaoi series I began collecting, if I remember correctly. It was also the first contact I had with yaoi anime--or in the case of FAKE, yaoi OAV.
FAKE is good, solid fun, IMO. The characters are endearing in their own ways, and the seven-volume run was pretty much perfect for the pace of the relationship development between Dee and Ryo. The one gripe about FAKE is that a lot of the development between the two men has a back and ...more

I've heard a lot of good, nay, great things about this series and this is enjoyable (I mean, it's a buddy cop manga about two cops who eventually fall in love - what's not to love?). I'm definitely going to read more of this.
This was a really cute manga. I'm new to the yaoi thing, but I like it.
The story is really "girly," a little too girly at times, though. I think Dee is sooo hott :-) Ready to read the next vol. and see where Dee and Ryo's relationship is heading (somewhere good, I hope).

I love FAKE! I wish there were more. All the stories felt rushed. I could have easily done with a LOT more of Dee and Ryo, and the stories would have been better with a bit more time on them.

Funny and action-packed BL manga. Each story within the volume nicely builds on Dee and Ryo's relationship, and the comic-sidekicks in Bikky and Carol manage to add to the mix and relationships. The final story focuses on them, and it's very sweet. Will be getting the second volume when I'm able to.
I love this series because the characters are actually likable, the children not too annoying, and the typical sema/uke and school settings are broken
The first manga series I fell in love with, and it still remains one of my favorites. Dee and Ryo are two of my most fsvorite characters, ever.
I usually avoid crime books or anything to do with detectives or cops, but this wasn't that bad. I already own the second volume, so I'll keep going.
Definitely not my favorite art, but that's probably because it's old.
Liked some things, disliked some things, would continue reading.

The secondary story is hetero kids, didn't like it. But the cops are hot.
Loved this series so hard. One of my favorite Manga's.

Not sure I love the art, but the story was cute.
This is the best manga series I have ever read.
Teen graphic novel; LGBST.
Completed volumes 1-7.
Read for class. Very cute.
A likeable and cheerfully silly yaoi manga about two supposedly American cops in love. If you're looking for realism, don't look here, but if you're looking for decent yaoi -- well, there's not that much published in English; you could do much worse.
I didn't at first, but I love the art. Ryo and the way he deals with Bikky is too cute. I fell in love with Ryo the minute he figures Bikky out and lets him cry on his shoulder.
