Could many churchgoing Christians be getting a diluted Christianity--one that diminishes the loving, giving, personal God who provides the believer everything in life?

Author Steve McVey passionately but unwittingly taught from the pulpit the very lies he now exposes. Forthrightly but humbly, he shows how pastors and churches can end up distorting scriptural truths because...more

Hopefully the provocative title, 52 Lies Heard in Church Every Sunday, will catch the attention of many, as it is a book that will clear up the thinking, and be of great encouragement, to many; many who may have been a bit misled, or mildly confused, and some who have been out-and-out misdirected.

Despite the negative title, 52 Lies is a powerful and positive pronouncement of why God's truth is so much better than our faulty misinterpretations, or unwillingness to simply take God at his word. Tak...more

When I 1st heard about Steve McVey, I found him on YouTube. I couldn't wait to read his 52 lies because he had like 100 lies in the beginning. Sadly he choose a lot of the ones that were just nitpicking with words. I think most people who NEED this book will be turned off by this book...

For instance,
Lie #30 You Should Make Jesus Lord Of Your Life (This is really silly, most people say this to mean salvation)
Lie #47 You Will Be Blessed Because You Tithe (Again a play with words, God will bless...more

I did not get off to a good start with this book. Right in the first chapter the author seems to go well beyond Calvinism (which I pretty much expect in just about any intelligent book these days) into some uncharted territory for me in which he denies that even assent or belief or anything has anything to do with salvation. I kinda think this isn't what he meant, but I'm not sure how else to read it.

As I continued on through the book, what was presented in the short chapters occasionally set my...more

Although the title is a bit condescending, the content of this book was clearly written with a heart of love toward the Church. Steve articulates the gospel beautifully while distilling many of the dogmatic beliefs in the church. Well written, easy to read.

Rating it higher because I recommend people read it. By the end though, I could start to answer the statements as the author would have. This was not because I already knew the answer (I did), but because it became a little repetitive by the end. Worth the read though.

Very interesting! Steve McVey's books are very easy to read. This book is one you can read a chapter and pick it up later and read another but not in order.

I have been a fan of Steve Mcvey for awhile, he has helped me in my own walk with God. I love how this book not only exposes the lies but he shows where in the Bible where many misinterpret the Bible to pacify their viewpoints or traditions. I was really encouraged reading this, it made me realize how desperately the grace of God needs to be preached and not the rules.

Grace, Grace and more Grace, this is an exceptional book. I will recommend this book to anyone, whether they are a Christian or n...more
