Being a book about Vampires, I expected Katina: The Beginning to be very not original. But I was wrong. This book definitely differentiates against all the other vampire books. It's like reading a book from a different time, not very modern at all. That what I though was great about it.

Elizabeth creates a world of action, romance and thrill. You wouldn't guess what will happen next. It always keeps you wanting to read more. It was a wonder I finished reading this book in a matter of hours.

I have to admit that I have been trying to finish this first review of the first book for over a week now. I have been writing a little.. saving… and then returning to write a lil’ more. Why? Well, the honest truth is that I have loved this series so much that I have been unable to put the continuing books of this series. However, I have been trying very hard to review the book as soon as I finish it but Elizabeth Loraine has done a wonderful job at ending each book in a manner that makes you dive into the next book with the wonder at what will possibly happen next.
This is my first series that I have read of Elizabeth Loraine’s books. I was very impressed with her story telling. I really enjoyed the fact that Katrina, The Beginning took place in the 1800s. It was nice to experience the mannerisms, fashion attire, and social events that the Royals are able to take part in. I also enjoyed the many characters that Ms. Loraine has included in this story. I love the two love interests Quinn and Damien. Hmm ……which should she choose? The handsome human watcher that has been her best friend since they were babies or the mysterious Royal Vampire Damien who is also very interested in Katrina. Poor Katrina! Which we all had that dilemma.
I n the beginning I felt that she fell in love to easily with the love interest but it actually makes a lot sense when you continue to read the books. So, do not give up! They continue to get very interesting and page turning. I must say that I have never read a book that talked about bath taking as much as Katrina does and enjoys. Hmm It does make me wish I had a Sara that would draw my warm bath with nice soothing fragrances and be there to brush my hair. Sounds relaxing.
I also love the many training exercises and battles that Katrina partakes in. Boy, Katrina may look sweet and innocent but I definitely would not mess with her. I would hate to be her enemy because she is definitely a warrior with her weapons and Vampire speed.
If you have not yet began this book series . I highly recommend Katrina, The Beginning be on your must read book shelf. Trust me! I have read many books. You will not put this book down anytime soon.

Katrina: The Beginning was in my opinion a good read. Not great, but fairly good. The plot was better than the actual writing. I found a few spelling/grammar errors that were a little disconcerting. The plot however was very good.

Likes: Katrina is awesome and her kick butt girls. Quinn is a great guy.

Dislike: the romance, sorry i like a book with real romance and not someone that jumps back and forth for NO reason and hello beings are sentient, they all have feelings.. It was to wishy washy for me and unrealistic. And lastly why have a Quinn POV...should have been only Katrina.

This was a wonderful read. I really enjoyed the characters, the settings, the action/adventure aspects...it was all just so refreshing and entertaining. For me, I really liked reading this from Katrina's POV, as we obviously know she is a young vampire, so we read about her daily life, and about her training/feeding, and I found this to be a refreshing paranormal/romance story. When I first began reading the book, I must be honest and say that I was thinking, " Okay here is a reverse Twilight with the girl being the vampire and the forbidden human lover a guy." But, this was so not the case.
The story is so much more than a romance story, it is packed full of action, adventure and most of all history.

It takes place in Europe about the time of the settling of America. Katrina is a strong vampire who is highly intelligent, strong, and independent. This first book is her story about how she came about being the leader of the Protectors- five female vampires who protect all the races of the world from evil.

Without spoiling the story, you will read about her background, follow her through her struggles with love, loyalty, and hold your breathe at the end of book one until you get book two in your hands.

Simply, Katrina- the Beginning, is the best historical vampire series that I have read. This is just the beginning of the Protectors and their journey to save the world. This book will have you reading so quickly that you must go back and reread because you just want to devour the story so quickly. It is a must read!

An excellent story that keeps a chaste view on love with just the right amount of passion to keep you interested in their relationship. Great background story of old vampire family lines and old world struggles for power. I did feel a little confused by the change in love interests as the book went along. This is a very fast moving story about vampires. I was well into the story and happened to notice I was only on page 60. It seemed like I was further in since I was deep in the action.

I loved the unique view of vampires as being evolved in a mostly peaceful race who don’t terrorize humans. The Watchers helped to explain this angle, and helped support the interspecies storylines.
