Being a book about Vampires, I expected Katina: The Beginning to be very not original. But I was wrong. This book definitely differentiates against all the other vampire books. It's like reading a book from a different time, not very modern at all. That what I though was great about it.

Elizabeth creates a world of action, romance and thrill. You wouldn't guess what will happen next. It always keeps you wanting to read more. It was a wonder I finished reading this book in a matter of hours.

I am again fortunate enough to read and review a work by Elizabeth Loraine, and as with Phantom Lives- Collier, she did not disappoint me. And Katrina is the first in a series, so I am thrilled to death! As if that was not great already, this follows in the path of my favorite character, the vampire.
Katrina is set in a different time period which is refreshing. In this era, Elizabeth has created a world with drama, action, romance and enough thrill to keep you turning t...more

Follow Katrina in this beginning tale of the Royal Blood Chronicle series. Katrina, the Beginning is told in the point of view of a young seventeen year old vampire named Katrina. The story takes place in the 1800s and although the Royals have their own servants that tend to their beck and call, the characters are still very compassionate and unselfish towards their staff and watchers. Of course, Katrina would never ever consider them staff but rather family. She discovers new friendships that a...more

Katrina: The Beginning was in my opinion a good read. Not great, but fairly good. The plot was better than the actual writing. I found a few spelling/grammar errors that were a little disconcerting. The plot however was very good.

A not quite 18 year old vampire named Katrina Von Dracek is learning about herself, her gifts, her family. Woven within the story are some interesting plot twists. Likeable characters and of course, the ever unlikeable characters, though we don't really see them as muc...more

Katrina is a young seventeen year old vampire, the main protagonist in this coming of age story. The story begins slowly building in excitement as Katrina buds in confidence. Elizabeth Loraine has spun a tale of action and adventure interwoven with sprinkles of romance. Set in historical times, the reader completely invests in their sword wielding heroine as she navigates through every twist and punch Loraine throws at her hesitating only slightly at the possibilities of love. Katrina is a wonde...more

I’m a massive fan of the vampire genre—frankly, I love the angst and the torture the characters go through. Most tales are told from the male aspect, so it was great for me to get my hands on Katrina—The Beginning. Elizabeth Loraine has done something that grabbed me from page 1—the entire tale being told from the eyes of 17-yer old Katrina. Katrina, beautiful princess that she is, lives in a vampiric world of luxury. As with all tales of the undead, there are humans that seek out vampires for e...more

Evil is lurking within the walls of Katrina's families castle. There is a spy who will stop at nothing to harm whoever is required to gain power and control of the vampire council. Katrina and her friends must unite and use all their fighting techniques and special gifts if they are to win.

Elizabeth Loraine writes a riveting story about what "true" and "loving friendships" are all about. Elizabeth will capture you with her wonderful story of five

" I sat very still, staring straight ahead just as I was told. Being asked to sit for a portrait to be displayed in the Sanctuary’s grand library was a great honor. Review to come soon.. Skme likes/dislikes;

Likes: Katrina is awesome and her kick butt girls. Quinn is a great guy.

Dislike: the romance, sorry i like a book with real romance and not someone that jumps back and forth for NO reason and hello beings are sentient, they all have feelings.. It was to wishy washy for me and unrealistic. And lastly why have a Quinn POV...should have been only Katrina.

This was a wonderful read. I really enjoyed the characters, the settings, the action/adventure aspects...it was all just so refreshing and entertaining. For me, I really liked reading this from Katrina's POV, as we obviously know she is a young vampire, so we read about her daily life, and about her training/feeding, and I found this to be a refreshing paranormal/romance story. And yes, there is romance, a love triangle, between the Human Watcher, Quinn, (very likable character); and Vampire, Da...more

I struggled a little bit to get through this but there was enough there to keep me going to the next book, couldn't quite get past the dialogue of the girls in the book, but then had to force myself to realise it was set in a time when kids were very respectful of their parents, but still struggled a little at some points I was yelling at the Katrina, which only made me realise that Elizabeth Loraine had done a good enough job of creating a character that I was screaming at her in frustration. I loved the classic feel to this novel, nothing like Twilight or any other modern day Vampire novels. Because this was set in the 1800's, the time period felt right as the kind of creatures that they are. I don't know how to really explain it, but this novel didn't exactly pull me in. I was kind of putting along with it, you know, going with the flow. I loved how strong of a...more

From page one, I was so completely invested in Katrina. I have read several, SEVERAL (have I mentioned SEVERAL?) vampire novels recently. There are so many different ways to tell a great vampire story and Ms. Loraine hits on one of my favorites.

I noticed right from the beginning a darker, more forboding feel to Katrina, which takes place in the 1800s. Katrina, a young vampire, about to turn eighteen, is one of many in a royal family. Along with these vampires are the humans who watch them and p...more

This was a fun take on vampires, the story was unusual and it kept my interest.
I was really intrigued by the concept of a royal family of vampires and I really wanted to see how the author would portray them and what their world would be like.

And while the concept was a good one I do wish there would have been just a little more world building involved. I never did get a good idea in which time period this book took place. We get a feel that it is set around the 1700's when immigrants were first...more

Cover

The darkness of the cover reinforces the idea that vampires are dark and mysterious. The silhouette of the lady's face makes one unerringly assume that it is the same Katrina that the book was named after.

Plot

There was some action and romance in this book. However ... I felt like this book was mainly focused on introducing the characters, not only to the readers but, to each other as well. It was a solid foundation for the remainder of the series. It gave you a sense of who the characters w...more

An excellent story that keeps a chaste view on love with just the right amount of passion to keep you interested in their relationship. Great background story of old vampire family lines and old world struggles for power. I did feel a little confused by the change in love interests as the book went along. I just felt it happened a little quick but in the end was not disappointed in the the result.

I enjoyed this greatly but did think that it would appeal to female readers more than males due to l...more

I absolutely love paranormal reads! Now give one (YA or otherwise) that has various original aspects (and handsome male characters) to it and I’m hooked. This is the first book in The Royal Blood Chronicles series (it takes place in the 1800's) and I have a good feeling it will get better and better as the series goes on. There are great characters with individuality, charm and realism. It’s full of adventure, suspense, surprises and a touch of romance (of the vampire kind). Teens as well as adu...more

This is a very fast moving story about vampires. I was well into the story and happened to notice I was only on page 60. It seemed like I was further in since I was deep in the action.

I loved the unique view of vampires as being evolved in a mostly peaceful race who don’t terrorize humans. The Watchers helped to explain this angle, and helped support the interspecies storylines.

There were a few items that I found a bit “off” though, such as the way Kat so easily switched from being in love with...more

I’d like to thank Author Elizabeth Loraine for the wonderful “GIFT” of her novel Katrina, The Beginning (Royal Blood Chronicles)!! I’ve been lucky enough lately to be able to finally get hold of some of the books that have been on my TBR or wish list through some amazing authors. KATRINA being one of them, now to follow is my fair and unbiased opinion after reading Katrina.

Katrina is being told from the POV of a young seventeen year old royal vampire, of course her name is “Katrina” as the title...more

I really like the story & how everyone has come together from different areas & made their own family within the main family. all from Royalty. There are 5 female vampires all 17 yrs old & are powerful together. They are about to celebrate their 18th Birthdays & they are all within days of each other. They all have a gift & when they are together it enhances their gifts. There are 7 Voss brothers wihich are the guardians (of the vampires) & are part of the original famil...more

I am a fan of YA novels. I am also a fan of vampire novels. Between my two loves, I had thought I had experienced the majority of what the genre could provide me, until I discovered independent author, Elizabeth Loraine!

In this delightful novel, based in the 1800s, we discover the amazing Katrina - a seventeen-year-old sword yielding, independent, compassionate, fascinating heroine who happens to be a vampire. But, don't get me wrong, she is not your everyday blood sucking variety! She has an a...more
