I recently reviewed another book with a similar name, Capitalism and the Jews. On starting that other book, I knew within the first couple of pages that it was going to be a significant and powerful book. In contrast, I knew that Jews and Money was not going to be any such thing. Capitalism and the Jews induced an alert and attentive readiness to learn, while Jews and Money induced consternation and jangling nerves. But that begs the question. Why the difference?

Foxman has some interesting things to say, and his invocation at the end of the book is very moving. His argument is interesting, but it is made sloppily at times. For those who are interested in the subject, it's definitely worth the read, but handle it with awareness that Foxman occasionally uses a cudgel where he should use a scalpel, and that can be very frustrating.
