I BURN FOR YOU was an okay read. I mean I won’t be rushing out for the rest of the series or anything but it did have its moments. It’s the first book from Susan Sizemore’s Prime series (which is also available in the omnibus Crave the Night) Providing us with yet another unique take on Vampire romance. I have to say though that I enjoyed the world building here and for the most part, as a first-book-in-series it wasn’t overwhelmed with huge info dumps but explained gradually throughout.

Our hero is of course Vampalicious; dreamy, tortured and seriously alpha or “The Prime” as his chest beating manliness is explained as here. There are interesting secondary characters and some funny dialogue and I enjoyed the premonitions/dreams aspect from our heroine as well as the mind melding process our couple went through. The love scenes are steamy enough but nothing special, which was how I felt about the romance in general -nothing that I’ll remember for very long. My only true complaint (other then the blahness) was the abrupt ending, with several loose ends left hanging and a general feeling of what? That’s it? Still there’s way worse paranormal romance out there.

Alec Reynard is battling his inner demons and true vampire self. Undergoing secret medical treatments that allow him to go out in the daylight and live among humans. Alec keeps himself on a very tight leash and everything seems to be going according to plan until he feels the call of his “Bond Mate” She brings out the beast in Alex and suddenly his cocktail of drugs isn’t working so well anymore, hence the recent sunburn and aggression issues he‘s been experiencing.

Domini Lancer works at her grandfather’s security company as a bodyguard. She’s experienced premonitions her entire life and has grown used to the occasional weird dream. Lately though these dreams have been taking on a life of their own, filled with erotic visions of sex, blood and a man she doesn’t know. And now that voice in her head is there even when she’s awake, compelling her to buy peaches and go places she’s not entirely comfortable with.

So while Domini doesn’t yet know what she is or the danger this places her in Alec as her soul mate and The Prime is driven to protect her. Taking a job at the old man’s company he’s soon teamed up with Domini on their latest security detail. (Hmm mind influence anyone) As the darkness seizes him there is nothing Alec won’t do to keep Domini safe… And claim her as his own. (less)

Hmm. This the first novel in Sizemore’s “Primes” series, and it had a lot of potential. I was really looking forward to it because several of my friends here love this series, and you know how crazy I am about yummy vamps (big smile). The first book in a new series – vampire “Primes”. If you like your vampire males, the alpha driven testosterone types, dark and brooding, this series is for you. For me it was a change from the humorous paranormal romances that I usually read. A nice balance for me to switch back and forth from.

This book starts out strong and ends strong. I liked that there was not that yo-yo/should I-shouldn't stuff going on. I'm planning on reading more of the series.

Alec is a vampire who's is going feral and is trying to slow/stop the process. In the middle of his mess, he finds his bond mate and tries to keep her from him until he has more control over himself. His bond mate Domini, has a secret family past that she's not even aware of let alone that vampires exist. Good book!

Although the pictures maybe somewhat inappropriate i thought this was a really well written book. The author uses like imagination and emphasis or words to describe more of the feelings and emotions the characters are going through. I also love how she use personification to describe fear because she does it in like the boom moment where everything finally comes together like a puzzle and the character realizes her fear which is exciting to me. Having read this book, I now understand so much more about Primal Heat. Although, I still am not totally hooked on Ms. Sizemore's writing. This too was ok. Not stellar, not terrible. I will read the rest of the set that I have (since I got them free) but I doubt I will run out to purchase the ones I don't already have.

So, here we have Alec and Domini. Alec is supposed to be a vampire prime who has chosen to live in the daylight and take all the daylight drugs - enough so that he had a career as a Colonel in the Army - but the drugs aren't really working anymore. Domini is a tough private security person who also has visions. And she lives in fear of her Grandfather. They met, can't stay aware from each other, blah blah blah (another book that is totally formulaic for this genre).

So, the dialogue between the characters is pretty bad. Really, calling Alec a "d-boy" - has the author met anyone who was ever in special forces? I doubt they refer to themselves as "d-boys" (I know some special ops folks, no one from "Delta" so maybe Delta guys are the odd balls of the bunch, but none of the special ops folks I know refer to themselves in such corny cheesy ways...) There was little enough of the dialogue between the characters though to be able to deal. As a result, the love affair and the bond that was developing seems forced. I miss the books that first got me into this genre where you felt like there was a relationship forming (notwithstanding the formula that writers in this genre feel compelled to never deviate from, no matter how terrible the story becomes or how terrible some of the chapters with the bad guys seem to get). Lately, including with both of the Sizemore books I have read, it seems like they meet and 3 seconds later one of them is thinking/saying "I love you" - it's a little to quick, without development, even for the fantasy world that these books take place in.

Holly, Domini's friend is probably the most intriguing character in the book but we only get a little of her - during the middle third of the book. Domini's development is minimal. We know she was an odd ball - but only really becuase of Holly - but we never hear any good stories as to why. That would have helped me like her a lot more, I am sure. And Grandpa, we don't get nearly enough of.

Alec's family and the gathering had potential, but it fizzled when Alec let Domini escape the party. And we didn't see what the implications to Alec from his Matri/mother were. I think I would have liked to have seen that confrontation or conversation.

Where we learn the truth about Blackbird was kind of a let down too. It was so - anticlimactic in nature. It was taken too well by Domini, even for me (who totally leaves reality at the front door when I read this genre).

One the plus side, Alec's mom did some explaining and provided some background on the Prime thing. As well as on the whole Tribe/Clan/Family thing. So I understand more. Although there are still enough holes to drive 18-wheeler's through and I am not sure, based on how little Sizemore seems to want to inform the reader of the rules of the universe, that I will ever get enough of the details to be satisfied in this world.

I liked Alec more then I like most of the male vamps lately. He was written so as to not be quite so... well, the term I would use is so not PG rated - but lets say he's a better balance of masculinity and guy-in-love then most of the guys we read about (who are totally macho and so over the top caveman about "their women" that they almost can't be tolerated or taken seriously).

Finally, the steaminess factor - totally a low rating on that front. I would read those scenes, and say to myself "that's it?" Glad I got these free.

I was so bothered by the fact that the author used Alec as a nickname for Alexander not to mention numerous grammatical errors and poor word usage. Does Susan Sizemore NOT have an editor? That said, let me sum it all up for you. It's the story of Alec and Domini. Alec is a vampire prime who has chosen to live in the daylight. To do this he has to take quite a few daylight drugs to enable this to happen. He has done this with enough frequency spanning quite a number of years so that earned a post as a Colonel in the Army. However, the drugs are not longer working properly. He has built up some sort of tolerance to them which causes problems. Domini is a tough private security officer who also happens to have visions and lives in fear of her Grandfather. Once Alec and Domini meet, can't stay aware from each other, blah blah blah you know where I am going with this because it was SO formulaic that you have already read this book listed under about a thousand other titles. Usually this doesn't deter me, however, those other books have been more well written and had far better dialogue. For example, calling Alec a "d-boy" makes me wonder if the author bothered with any research at all. Has she ever actually MET anyone who was in the special forces? None of the special ops servicemen I have met refer to themselves in such a ridiculous manner.

The love affair and consequent bond was completely forced, almost as if the author was running down a "How to write a cheese vampire romance" checklist. This really made me yearn for the books that first get you into the the plot and storyline where you felt like there was a relationship forming. In this book, the two main characters meet and less than five seconds later one of them is thinking or saying "I love you" - it's all a bit too quick even for love at first sight. You need that development, even for the fantasy world that these books take place in. What was most disappointing is that you'd assume that if they were so immediate with the "I love yous" that the author would at least make up for that in the bedroom...don't be fooled! I would read those "steamy" scenes and then think to myself..."Really? That's it? That was lame." I'm so glad I got this book for free as it is not worth the paper it was printed on.(less)

I really enjoyed this story overall. However, when I really stop and dissect the inner workings of this story's vampire world and other aspects of it, things become muddled and not a clear. I felt the story was sorta all over the place and had a 'newbie' feel to it.

Not the worst book that I've this year and by far not the best one either. I really liked the take the author had on the vampire society and their culture. I decided to take this book with me on my short vacation to Las Vegas -- I ended up having time to read this, as it is a QUICK and fun read. A Vampire romance that focuses more on the romance and the life of our heroine rather than the VAMPIRE side of the story. Very nice. I look forward to the other two (or more by now??) in the series (thirst and hunger for you).

I started flipping through this on my nook and then realized I actually wanted to read it again, and it only took me about 3 hours. It's not a bad start for the series, though there are some dangly plot threads - we never really find out why Alec's meds stop working, just that they do; also, why doesn't Tony recognize his cousin? And what happens to Domini's great-grandmother?

A pure urban romance with a relatively strong story and plot. But maybe too complex for a shorter novel because so many intriguing ideas are not followed up, such as her grandfather's story, Alec's sister, etc. Maybe they are addressed in later books, although the main characters in those stories are not those guys or the heroes from this book (based on the back cover of the book). It was good, not great, and not intriguing enough to get me to read the rest of the series.

This was actually pretty good. A ton of things were explained clearly as far as the 3 types of vampires etc. Purists & hunters...

ONE MAJOR FLAW!!! She gives a date of birth instead of an age of the vamp. He would be 44 today, but when it came out, he was 35... In a few years, he will be 50 & so not cool in the vamp world.

The blurb on the back is incorrect. It says that he wonders if she is a slayer infiltrating his clan... WHAT?!?

This relates to the whole series, not just the first book.

It is AMAZING - my favourite books ever will always be the twilight saga, it was the first set of books i ever read and nothing will ever change my mind on that, but this series is my next best ones, please give them all a try you wont regret it.

Susan Sizemore's writing is so easy flowing, characters are likable, hell i love this series and cannot praise them enough.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as I wanted to. It's a fast read, and the writing is confident and smooth, but I felt like sometimes it moved too fast, and the main characters were a little detached, especially during the sex scenes, which weren't as intimate as I'd like. I didn't buy that Alec loved her, I didn't really buy any of their emotions.

An OK read but not one I would jump to recommend as exceptional. Interesting development of her vampire culture but overall not as a convincing a 'world' as, say, Kelley Armstrong's werewolf culture. I did like the tension between the hero and heroine. I own two more of the series that I may read eventually but find I'm not really drawn to them. So, closer to a 2.5 stars.

Really liked the uber-alpha male, strong heroine, and the reasonable conflict combined with the high sexual tension between them, along with the vampire cosmology Ms. Sizemore slowly meted out. I do wish there'd been a little more to the external plot and the romance, though. The next book in the series will be on my list, but not as a top priority.

I enjoyed the author's Laws of the Blood series which is Urban Fantasy with some love interest, so I started this series of her's looking for some light entertainment. I guess I should have known from the title it was a vampire Bodice Ripper with the usual obsessive/possessive lovers and graphic sex. 20 pages was enough.

I thought that the book was ok. The story was pretty good, but the build up just kept going and going to the point of fustration. The ending was a bit of a let down. I did enjoy the the true vampire charisma of Alec and suppose it's what kept me interested. I hope that the next book in the series is better.
