It's odd the things that come to mind when you're reading a book. THE SIMPLE DEATH had me very worried for central character Nicholas Troy's female colleagues. Given that he seems to spend a lot of his time jumping into bed with other women as soon as something goes wrong with his own life (not just including his wife's Post Natal Depression / leaving him etc from the first book), that I'm really worried what's going to happen if he ever gets knocked back on a promotion.

There's a main character Detective Nicholas Troy whose personal life is in pretty bad shape - his wife has left him and we're not sure if she's coming back. (Neither is he!) Troy is tempted by a colleague, with nearly disastrous consequences. Then there's a very different second thread involving Leila Scott, a bureaucrat whose mother is dying of cancer and asks Leila to help her kill herself. I liked the way this book dealt with an important topic - voluntary euthanasia - but not in a preaching ...more

Something that I do not usually read but found it entertaining although at times somewhat confusing as to what was happening, nevertheless not a bad novel.
