Al principio molesta el énfasis por advertir al lector que está en Buenos Aires en 1808. Demasiado color local, demasiados camellos diría Borges. La prosa breve y correcta, un poco seca.
Luego la trama se impone y se pone interesante. ¿Cómo se resolverá el amor del mulato y la señorita de la casa?
Hay un poco de política, sobre los movimientos de 1809.
Pero el libro es muy corto, se precipita el desenlace, se precipita el epílogo. Resulta finalmente más un borrador o un esquema que una novela.
